  1. Actually if you set all your information the same when you reinstall windows (like your username and whatnot) that shouldn't be an issue. When I reinstalled windows without reformating I changed my computer name / user name.... then I saw nothing on my desktop and I was like wtf? Then I remember they were under my documents/zonda instead of my documents/kix for example. It shouldn't delete any DLL's or anything else either... so if anything, the only thing you'd have to do is remake a few shortcuts like in my case. If you had to reinstall all your programs, you might as well reformat, but like I said, you don't.
  2. Sounds like there is something on your computer coninually reinstalling everything you remove. Your probably removing the same things over and over. First off, make sure you have none of those junk screensavers installed, they usually contain a lot of bundled spyware. Update your Adaware and Spybot definitions before you scan. Now restart in safemode by restarting and slamming F8 over and over, choose "safe mode" once you start up, run adaware and whatnot. After you've done all this, restart normally and post a Hijackthis log here please.
  3. People always think Windows CD = reformat. Just let everything on the CD load, select your drive, it will say "there is already a windows dealio on here..." then when it asks if you want to format it say "no". I know, it's one of those really difficult things. All this does is replace your windows files, so if your computer is messed up because you/someone/something deleted / disabled something you needed, or because of corrupt files, this is the winning method. Don't waste time using "repair" or the "recovery consol"
  4. camera's encrypt and compress files to save space on the camera (since you want to be able to get as many pictures on it as you can) and to force you to use their software. Well how do they benefit by making you use their software? They probably don't, but when it comes to techsupport it makes their job a lot easier. Encrypt doesn't always have to mean uber-anti-hackage-password-mixerupper... If you have more questions maybe you should ask the people who make camera's with encrypted pictures or go to their tech support, not me. If you what you meant was "camera's don't encrypt files" (which is the vibe I'm getting) then errrnnt, wrong. Now leave me alone.
  5. Ever play with legos? Yes? Then you can build a computer....
  6. right click >> use sledgehammer >> right click your modem >> use sledgehammer with modem
  7. and I meant why would you need more suggestions when you already got what you wanted. Its like asking for a pie, and then wondering why you only got a pie and not a pie with a side order of ice cream
  8. ... why would you need more. The program does exactly what you asked and it's as simple as opening a word document and saving it as a different word document... If you want quality, use the free divx codecs along with the videomach program.
  9. videomach, google it. It's free and easy to use. When you save the file, I recommend using the divx free codecs, you'll have to google and download those too, but it will look 10 times better if you use them. Other wise, use the windows movie maker if you like bad quality.
  10. Lol, skype's fun for doing prank calls
  11. You have to go to the windows site and find out which "hotfix" it was and then uninstall that particular hotfix in the add/remove programs list. It will then roll back the version of WMP you have. I am currently using 9 The only annoying thing about that, is every time you start it it asks you if you want to upgrade, though I'm sure that can be disabled.
  12. sounds like someone manually deleted the java files, leaving it in your registry.
  13. Your first and biggest problem is getting AOL. The rest is all minor issues. I'm sorry thats of no real help and off topic, but I really do discourage people from getting AOL, aol tends to have screwed people over in the past. Reducing their bandwidth and their internet rates and what not to begin with - along with installing / bundling a lot of spyware and other malicious stuff to their customers computer
  14. you can substitue anti-static wrist bands with rubber bands around your wrist :P Just a fun fact.
  15. The processes are all fine, but you have a lot of unnessesary stuff running / installed which could potentially be taking up CPU and RAM.
  16. If the RS client is randomly closing, thats a known issue. If ALL your windows are randomly closing, well then I have no clue.
  17. video mach - it's free, google it or download.com it. Simple as selecting them all, opening them, and then using saveas to make an AVI. To get the best quality use the divx pro or divx free codecs.
  18. if there was any software that came with the camera, make sure to use that. It could be that they are still encrypted / compressed.
  19. Its a combination of things. Windows movie maker, bad codecs, bad recording programs, and possibly an older computer. For a computer to capture screen caps and turn it directly into an AVI is a huge burden on the CPU, and the fact that it's creating a huge AVI alone is already meaning its lower quality. Not bad... but not super either. Mind you it is still uncompressed. When you use windows movie maker, it automatically compresses it with the windows codecs. These are made to be quick and for general purpous... like making a web blog or a short skit to show mom and pop, not to be used for professional quality videos. Making an actual video requires way too much work for a game as simple as RS. Just as a short run down, it would consist of: First getting a program to capture screen rates at around 29FPS and make it a BMP file, with your video card maxed out. You would want to do this at a large screen size, then use a batch file to shrink them all down convert them to an uncompressed AVI, and then edit it with something like Sony Vegas Video / Adobe Premeire / Video Mach, and finally use Divx Pro codecs to compress it and the sound. However, the only thing I can suggest to you is to set your resolution to whatever RS is... I think 800 x 600, make sure nothing else is running to hog memory, and then after the AVI is created, use something like video mach (free and just as simple as windows movie maker) and download the divx free codecs, much better then the default windows ones and also free.
  20. Make sure your ports are open. Thats a big issue with Blizzard games, especially starcraft and what not since they were made when everyone used 56k, they never had to worry about that. If you already have the ports opened on your router I wouldn't know. If you contact blizzard support they are usually pretty good about handling problems... at least simple stuff like network issues.
  21. for some reason I've always had problems putting new drives in dell computers. There was never any room in the cases I was working with, we ended up taking the dvd drive back and having to get a external, other wise we would have had to get a laptop dvd drive.
  22. that won't work if he formated and didn't install the new drivers, and he won't know what drivers to install if he doesn't know what card he has ;P, hence the program, or try your luck on linux.
  23. denial of service... and I really doubt a group of people would bother to ddos a runescape server, and if they did they would have brought it down, not have 30 people drop.
  24. yea the card will be more then enough. My fx5700 ran WoW and BF2 fine, 70+ frame rates. Now I have a 7800 (best I could get with a AGP slot) and it runs pretty much anything ATM on high with a decent resolution (though I prefere 800x600 for gaming), and the games coming out havn't really advanced graphically lately, of course they will, and then it will still run them fine on medium to low... Voodoo and GeForce cards still easilly run popular games that people play today like CS, Quake III, Sims, and so on, and at decent FPS. Basically when you build a comp you want to put a lot of money into the video card, because you want it to last a while... unless your going to be one of those rich kids who upgrade every 3 months for $500 so they can run games like CS at 400 FPS instead of 300....
