  1. Err... before you unplug it you should probably uninstall it though your device manager other wise you might run into electrical problems... I.E. your mobo frying itself. Not likely, but possible. I've seen it happen :P
  2. Off subject, I hate when people say that. I've had uptimes upwards of several weeks and never had a single problem as of yet. Sure, I suppose if you had a corrosive virus slowly deteriorating your entire hard drives content it wouldn't be good to leave it on 24/7, but then again either way you would end up with a not too great computer.... and uhh... as long as your computer doesn't completely fry itself for no apparent reason you should be fine. Rebooting every 4 hours is a thing of the 90's.
  3. yea, just drag the song in the timeline so it ends at the same time that the movie ends.
  4. Or better codecs. Use sony vegas video if you can, with the divx pro codecs, if not use videomach (free) with the free divx codecs. Runescape movies are such a joke though, they are boring and repetative and just play dumb... who ever started this fad, it's just pathetic compared to real fraging movies I.E. http://www.own-age.com
  5. Yea... and what happens after it gets to the tower? ... It doesn't magically go striaght to the recipiant Erm... this is just like the people who bad mouth Dell with no real reasons beside "everyone says they suck!11!" I know, but you also said the up and down rates I provided were wrong.... and opening up cmd to ping a site / ip / proxy with a whole... whats the max? Like 12 kb or something? Either way, it would proove nothing. Mind you I just finished a game of Battlefeild2 with constant 30 ping. This isn't really an argument, this is like the government stating that Area 51 doesn't exist.
  6. you don't have to argu, like I said, join a server with me any day and that will be that.... A lot of people say that AOL is terrible, that doesn't mean that all cable/dsl is terrble, now does it? No, didn't think so. Yup, your right about both those things, particularly the second. Which is where 2*10^8 comes in. That's the speed at which the signal is being sent and received at... 299,792,458 m/s People who say satelite is terrible are ignorant. What do you think your cell phone is using? It's certainly not relaying it from tower to tower when your calling bejing thank you very much. How about someone gives me the link of the "internet test site" that tests your internet up/down speed by basically packeting it, I will proove it that way so you will be quiet.
  7. Don't beleive me? Join any server with my any day, and you will see all my pings under 30 ms. Using dish satelite for T.V. and using satelite intnernet cannot be compared... I can sit for 2 minutes just to wait for my dish T.V. to tell me some info on a movie, thats like comparing a model T to a ferarri and saying well the Model T was slow and unreliable, so all cars must be that way. 26,000 miles? No. Oh, and just for your information, 2*10^8...
  8. Nope, thats what everyone thinks but in reality I get just as good or better. In counter-strike servers, I am usually hitting between 19 and 24 ping for chicago servers (I live north of milwaukee) so that's pretty descent and I download at about 120kbs and upload at about ... hmm 70-90? Don't quote me on that, I don't upload much but small files. I've never had problems with dropped packets either, not during storms or anything. And it's relativly cheap, I pay $30/m for it, which is how much I was paying for my dialup + extra phone line lol... of course the dish itself runs about $180, but thats a one time fee.
  9. dont click random links, especially from people you don't know... and in the case it is someone you know... talk to them first. If they say "hey click here!" and then when you say "long time no see, whats up" and they don't respond... well you can assume they've been infected by the same virus they are trying to send you. Its especially obvious when you get 2 or 3 identical messages from different people, or the same message several times by one person.
  10. uhhh... that comes bundled with windows... it's just one of the tools. I think it is used to dump the memory and send the report when a program locks up, as this is the only time I notice it running... but it is a windows program.
  11. satelite
  12. Uhh... I don't have a problem with dropping packets. That could have been a problem with your wireless card or possibly router....
  13. Lol, so now I have a new problem... I tried to reinstall windows without reformating, and it locked up after 20 minutes... and now every time I boot up it starts the process over, windows XP cd or not... so now I cant get my files off the hard drive. I think I will go to office max, buy an external hard drive, install windows on that, put the files on that, then transfer the files to my computer, and return the hard drive and say that I don't have USB ports on my computer or some lame stuff like that. :^o :^o :^o

XP lets me install it on multiple computers, without any special license or cracks or any of that junk. I just went to install it on my laptop one day and it worked fine, along with my sisters computer, and my desktop.

I have nothing against dell... however Dell is fine for the ordinary e-mail user. If you ask for a gaming computer from them though it costs and arm and a leg, but that's called buisness and thats also why alot of people buy from newegg and what not. And here's where the however comes in... one thing I dislike about dell is the way they have the inside of the computer hooked up. Everything is jury rigged and thrown in there with green tabs and you can't interchange anything. The most you can really do is put in some RAM. My sister wanted a CD-RW drive, the dell came with a CD-ROM so I was going to put one in for her, only to find that I can't put on in, so now she has an external, which is just more unneeded clutter on a desk already filled with junk and wires. If you want a new video card in a Dell, good luck with that. They've got little tabs everywhere telling you your about to 'void a warantee' hell, they don't even leave you room in the case for an extra hard drive. Also, they really try to push merchandise and sucker people. Some guy could get by with just a 2.8 ghz processor and 512mb of RAM to do normal daily stuff, instead Dell tells him he needs 3.5 ghz, and 2 gigs of RAM, along with a $150 video card marked up to $400 Like I said, dell's great for the mom who wants to use msn, but I still personally don't like them one bit. Probably because I'm not a mom wanting to use msn...
  16. Maybe you have ingame music turned off :P
  17. My 120 Gig HD (actually its a 40 and an 80) well... its not full, but close to it. To be honest, I have so many files in random folders and so many text files with an IP or CD key laying around... my hard drive(s) are super unorganized, I could go into D: and find folders named "asdlja" and "sadlk" that I made to store 1 thing temporarily and never got around to deleting it. I would love to format the drive... but I don't know if I'd be losing anything important since I don't know whats all on the drive and I know some of it is useful lol. Such a pack rat :(
  18. Since you don't know what your talking about, don't post.
  19. Yea, it finished a chkdsk but said there was only 4kb of info in a bad sector, lol. Yea, its the hard drive. I can't repair windows either, and formating won't work either. Just gonna move the files I want and the put the laptop in my closet next to all my SD RAM chips and old Ethernet Cards.
  20. Yea, I know what you mean. The only slide in drives though are the DVD drive, and the floppy, and I guess the wireless card if you want to count that. Other then the trap doors on the bottom, I can't get the case apart unless I crack it in half lol. No it wasn't dropped or anything. I think it's just time to put it to rest. After the ordeal with it freezing at 100% chkdsk, I went to start it up the next day and said that chkdsk had been scheduled, and started again. It got up to 50%, I heard the HD stop spinning (I am almost certain) it went up to 51%, then froze. Tried again, 47%. Then I booted with the windows xp cd, did a chkdsk thru the recovery consol, it got nearly done and then froze for a few minutes, then told me I have an error on the disk that is not repairable. I tried to run the chkdsk again but this time it didn't even start, just told me the error message again. I will try and repair windows and see what that does, but I have a feeling it's time to start it up for 5 minutes, toss the files over LAN, and then put the laptop in a dark, damp corner.
  21. Well yesturday I disabled the caching, but it wouldn't let me boot from my windows CD, so I booted up, and told it to scan disk on next boot up. Then I restarted and it got completely done with the scan disk, and then locked up... It was pretty lame, but then I fixed the boot sequence so it would boot the windows xp cd first. I went into the set up to try and do a repair or recovery, but neither worked.... the reason? "No hard drive was found" so in other words, for no apparent reason it just stops seeing the hard drive. I'll try again today but this is really getting aggrivating.

Yea, just pop in the windows CD. Don't touch anything though, it will say press "X" now to go to such and such. You don't want any of that. Wait for everything to load up, will take a good 6 or 7 minutes. There should be 3 options, I don't remember them off the top of my head, but go to the one that pretty much says "install windows on hard drive" then it will say that it found a partition with windows already installed, and it will ask if you want to reformat and install, or if you just want to repair windows. Just use the repair option... though, I think your problem could be more easilly solved with going to your desktop >> right click >> properties Click the appearance tab, go to effects, and uncheck use large icons. You can also customize everything from within there, and right clicking your start menu and choosing properties as well. Make sure that skin is completely uninstalled and try reinstalling windows blinds. You could also have problems if your trying to use 3rd party / pirated / warez versions of the software.
  23. I made that huge post on my laptop and it got deleted? We'll, I was going to come on here and read what it was that I was told to do to try and fix it, but now my topic has been deleted so I guess the laptop will sit on the counter a few days more. If you remember the topic, could you please re-post Or... admin undelete?
  24. Ahhh.. yea I have been trying to disable caching and some other memory related stuff, I went in the BIOS and couldn't find the option anywhere. I'll try that, but I already did a chkdsk. Anyway, thanks for the help, I'll post back. Oh, and fyi yea, the laptop has been completly unpowered the last day or two.
  25. Okay, so lets start from the begining. About... a year and a half ago? I bought a laptop dirt cheap. The specs arn't that great, but they didn't need to be for what I needed it for. Anyway, the laptop, who I bought from some random, came complete with windows XP, and every form of spyware and virii known to mankind. I cleaned it out best I could with Mcaffe and adaware, other means too. Anyway, after some time of using the laptop, after being cleaned, I was getting a "physical memor dump" blue screen of death, talking about kernels and some other mumbo jumbo that consisted of z02193slxx:!!(_) So... I tried to fix it with what I had in my toolbox, but nothing I tried work. I threw in the towel and reformated, installing windows XP. Now this is the next part of my story. Of course I keep it regularly updated with windows patchs, mcafee, and adaware. I scan regularly, defrag and chkdsk as well on a normal basis. In case your wondering... this laptop is only used for one main purpose. I use it as a HLTV server, sometimes a ventrilo server, and to keep mIRC / xfire / trillian / google chat ect up 24/7 and not have to waste resources on my main gaming computer... keep in mind I have a laptop running 24/7. Now I've had awesome uptime, and no problems for the past year. SUDDENLY out of the blue, I get the blue screen of death, physical memory dump. I know for a FACT that there is no form of virus or spyware on it, so don't go there. I am assuming that it is either a bad HardDrive (maybe it got too hot from being on 24/7... it is a laptop after all) so either it got too hot, or there is a damaged sector on it. I also installed a 333mhz 128mb stick of ram into it when I first got it a year and a half ago... so it could be a RAM error. I'd rather it be the RAM, so I could just pull the stick out... unfortunetly I think its the Harddrive. Furthermore, after I get the error, and here's the kicker... when I try to start the laptop, it will sit at the IBM splash screen for a bit, make a few clicking noises, and then show up with a "Operating system not found" error. I have to let the laptop sit for an hour or two before being able to restart it, and even then I only have about 20 minutes before I get the error again. In that 20 mins I can't even finish scanning all the files for spyware... I definitly don't want to reformat, I have a lot of info I want on there nicely organized for once. Back to the clicking, I've taken the floppy, CD drive, and wireless card out... no clue what the click I hear is. Its just one click, its fairly loud, and only happens occasionally. Also, I'm not sure but when I get the "Operating System Not Found" error, it doesn't sound like the Hard drive is spinning... but then again it could be my imagination. I don't think I could use the XP cd to "repair windows" because I tried that the first time this was happening, and it ended up freezing half way thru, and messing up all my windows files which forced me to reformat. I hope that what I typed make some sence... its 2:00 AM and I'm a little out of it from the rave I was just at, but I think it made pretty much sense. Oh, and in case your wondering, I havn't added any new hardware or software in a loooong time. Newest thing on there would be an xfire update... and that theory is out the windows :P Anyway, like always, all help is appreciated. The balls in your court techheads, lets try for an answer that doesn't revolve around "reformat" pleeeease. Oh, and I can't take the laptop completely appart either, in case your wondering. It only lets me get at the RAM area, and the battery area... the rest of it is like a jig saw puzzle to try and get apart, if it isn't, they certainly confused me. Okay then, good night. I get to wake up in a few hours and work, I'm pretty sure that isn't going to be very fun.
