  1. BLAH, because thats not cooooool. I want to do this as an experiment - obviously I COULD do that, but I dun wanna -.-
  2. They should pay users to use McAfee, not the other way around. AVG is definitely the way to go. But don't uninstall it if it isn't your computer. ;-) And for sure don't uninstall anything until you get the other installed, or at LEAST downloaded. Of course, why must forums always be filled with people who hate on things because its the cool thing to do. OMG WINDOWS IS GHEY OMG MAC IS GHEY OMG LINUX IS GHEY
  3. Well here let me explain further - basically within the program I want one of the menu bar items to allow somone to click "about" and it will bring up the readme file. Rather than open notepad / wordpad, I used the system.io and assigned it to a msgbox - when I compile it, it works fine... but thats only because I know the exact directory it is in on my computer (its in D:\projects) now obviously people are more then likely going to toss the program on their desktop located in on the C drive... so how do I make sure that it always points to the correct spot? v.v
  4. just the text.txt which would be in the bin folder. edit - duh, nvm I'm stupid, after writing that I realized what I needed to do.
  5. good idea, get rid of the perfectly fine antivirus that is paid for and go download something else. Great advice, I commend you nearly as much as those who have the answer to all problems: reformat. Now back to the problem, gokillu is it fixed?
  6. /smack http://www.download.com/Macromedia-Drea ... ag=lst-0-2
  7. thats why you turn it back on when your done...
  8. bump - I know this is simple...
  9. What do people have against frames so much? v.v I wuv my frames
  10. If its the internet going slow its probably because previously you had everything cached, now you have to redownload it all.
  11. This is the funniest thing I have ever heard. A 20 gig hard drive with at least 15 gigs free space? Yea, you could install vista on that... but with the combination of how slow that processor is, and the fact that most of the OS will load as cache onto your hard drive (which aready is strained from having less then 5 gigs left) rather than the RAM... I can't believe that they actually said that those are the min req. I shutter at the thought of waiting 30 minutes for my OS to boot up, only to watch it crash. And you say its not a RAM hog? Task manager is your friend. XP Can be heavilly tweaked as well, disabling services saves a huge ammount of RAM, might want to try that on your computers your having trouble with. The biggest annoyance I found is they took the windows firewall 1 step further and integrated it into everything. I was trying to install microsoft office on a ladies computer... needless to say it had to ask me 4 or 5 times if I wanted to run the exe and install it, because after all it could be potentially dangerous software. DID I MENTION IT WAS MICROSOFT OFFICE I WAS INSTALLING?!?!? I'm all for security, but treating customers as if they are ignorant 4 year old children is not the way to go, most people today at least have a general understanding of computers. XP had plenty of features - warning the user if they had no anti virus, firewall, ect - all geared for security. If a person still gets a virus or what have you, at that point its their own fault. You don't just go to google.com and get a virus, generally speaking it was someone downloading something they shouldnt have or viewing something they probably shouldnt be.
  12. Go in Internet Explorer, click "help" and then about. Let me know what version your running. Obviously your computer can download some stuff, otherwise you wouldn't be able to view this page. Try downloading "HiJackThis" (It should be in one of the stickies around here, if not run a search for it) Then run a scan and post it here, its pretty simple and selfexplanitory. Can you still access the MS website to download windows updates?
  13. Sound (I think) works in all browsers now, last time I checked. Then again I havnt played in ages. I still think it has something to do with your sound mixer.
  14. No I mean like... if you play a music file, you can hear that?
  15. Yes, I've often heard that C++ is much more powerful and flexible then vb.net but meh, I dunno how much truth this holds and either way I am still against it. :-w
  16. before getting a new card, try this. First, read this page: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Command_line After doing so, go to your short cut, and try turning down the resolution, graphics settings, setting it to windows mode, ect. You then might be able to run guild wars (if you cross your fingers), though it isn't going to look pretty.
  17. I had the same problem - I could view the image in firefox. When I tried to look at it in internet explorer, photoshop, imageviewer, paint, ect it was botched. Basically the file was corrupted (it had been compressed incorrectly, and only about half the actual file remained in tact) but it was strange that I could still view it in FF. Meh.
  18. Id gladly help, just as soon as you stop talking in leet speak. Thanks. Oh - and P.S. gunz isn't worth your time, like every other free Korean MMO, it is filled with hackers, hackers, and more hackers.
  19. start >> settings >> control panel >> sound and audio devices >> under the volume tab, click advanced. Try unmuting or turning up SW Synth, and wave (or mono if you have it) What did you say about browsers? Have you tried using different browsers? All your other sound on your computer works though, right?
  20. Have you changed anything that could be causing the problem? What version of windows are you running? Is your windows updated? What version of internet explorer are you using?
  21. er... what shouldn't effect java? everything else is install correctly.... A driver related problem shouldn't really effect java. I just know from a personal experience that bad mother board drivers / outdated BIOS caused java to go wacko, but I've only heard of this a few select other times. I was just curious if you had.
  22. IF you know what your doing, you can also disable a good ammount of the system's "services" that take up a lot more RAM then they should. If not, don't bother wasting your time. Aside from that, run disk defrag and disk cleanup tools from: start >> programs >> accessories >> system tools this should be done every couple weeks at least. You might want to do it over night because it may take quite a while depending on when it was last done (if ever) and how large your hard drive is. You'll only notice significant slow down caused by a hard drive if its 90% (give or take) full or more.
  23. Could be two things - it might be that your MSDN files need to be updated for whatever reason (I had to do this to start some C++ and VB proggies way back in like... 1999) otherwise, try running the game in compatability mode. Just right click the icon >> properties >> compatability tab >> trial and error. If that still doesn't work, microsoft has an advanced compatibility tool you can download off their site... but its a pain in the keester and not worth the trouble (especially because it doesn't work more then 80% of the time)
