People who share their stuff of course are important, but to Harriator's post, these guys do more "damage" to the media industry than simple downloaders. Either way though, piracy is not as big of a issue as companies want you to think.

Yes, but those who pirate consistently and efficiently won't stop. And they would be the ones doing the most damage, no? The people who hold the files and share it do (Pirate Bay), not the downloaders. From my experiences, most people don't seed (share) what they download. Plus this just shows that the efficient ones won't stop. It's like banning beer or pornography, it will continue forever. So instead of banning it completely and crying to Obama, media companies should try to draw consumers away from piracy. It's like competition that can never go away so: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Even if they lower the prices, I can't see it going anywhere, I'd still rather get it free than cheap. The lower price won't be worth the "hassle" of illegal downloading because a lot of people download and get half-assed results. A cheap, simple, fast media distribution system is what companies need. The principle rule of capitalism: invention is the mother of nessesity. Comapnies will need to make this new system when they need the money. Not the case right now, is it? So the companies are crying to Obama because they get a couple of billions of dollars a year when the average person gets faced with unemployment and bills. [bleep] them.

If the media makes a simple, assessable, quick, and cheap way to give customers it's products, the product won't be worth the hassle of illegal download, since lots of people hardly knows how to use a computer.

Government oppression and social acceptance are two different things. Rosa Parks got arrested for sitting at the font because it was a law. Gays don't get arrested because they're gay. Gay marriage is political oppresson, so that can be argued and discussed. Forcing society to accept gays when it doesn't nessesilary have to is a top prority.

Studio are you new? I don't recall you posting on OT much. Anyway, to add onto that, there are plenty of other people who have to hide themselves but no one goes and make a parade for them. If a nerd acts the way he wants to, everyones going to mock him. He has to conform to be acceptable. A muslim wants to pray 5 times a day, but his boss doesn't allow it. He has to conform to be acceptable. Conformity is such a big thing in life, and no matter how much Disney tells you to be yourself, you really can't at all times. Gays are the same way. There are times he can be gay (gay clubs), the nerd can be a nerd (World of WWarcraft raiding), and the muslim to be faithful (aftter work). The thing with gays, is that their sexual orientation is different. We spend most of our time NOT in bed with someone else, so I don't understand why sexual orientation is so god damn important.
