DarkFall - Officially Launched
I remembered about MMORPG.com having a description of Df and such, and it does answer some of the questions asked on here: *If you asked a question in this topic, the answer WILL be found in this article, or the following quotes. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/4 *Don't remember if I linked to it in the main post* PvP & Why It'll Be Good: Gf PvE's: *PoH, are apparently able to be created anywhere...? Monthly Subscriptions: System Reqs: And they stated that Mac/Linux version are highly unlikely, but an Xbox version is possible, but not planned. Read the entire thing though, it's great information.

Any game that is turn-based in terms of combat will always be a pvp random number generator as you describe. In real life, when you create something, there is no thought process either. You know how to make it, so you make it. Assembling a computer together is the same thing, sure you have to make decisions on what parts to get, but when putting them together, there's no thought to it. Even when you're making a sandwich, you follow a set of instructions or pre-determined variables (that you like, like flavours). All you can do in a game is either make it enjoyable, or humourous to do. Sure, give variety to what you can use within the 'skill' or whatever crafting system or mini-game, but there will always be the best way for the specific goal you have in mind. Sure, you could also put in puzzles, or things that make you think, but the annoyance of trying to level quickly to achieve X goal will quickly turn the puzzles into a grind. That is why levels in general are bad to begin with, with anything. You can't put levels into any game and not expect to have complaints on grind, unless it's so easy that it's a child game (gf runescape). This is why FPS, RTS, and RTC become so addicting. You improve by killing, or destroying other things. After you've done that, you are given immediate results. You are able to plan out strategies that can be complex, and organized. Unlike playing a game where everything is pretty much pre-determined, and just given to you, to work it out, or do it. You have nowhere to go but the direction they've told you to go. RTC or Real Time Combat was the first reason I even took a look at DarkFall to begin with. After playing AoC anything w/o RTC is just boring. I'd just like to see a game that has a very deep crafting system, yet there is no levels or experience involved. DarkFall just got owned by Runes of Magic: http://www.mmorpg.com/index.cfm?bhcp=1 Look at the 'Hype' thing a bit down the page, RoM has 8.42 as does DF. RoM's OBT starts tomorrow though.

Scalable graphics to your own video card. I highly doubt the game will do anything significant to the current dual cores/quad cores out there.

Each server has been estimated to hold 10k players. The world takes 10 or so hours to cross by walking/running, without mounts. This excludes islands, and different level floors (ground, floor 1, floor 2...etc). We already know that 1500+ players doesn't crowd the small runescape world, that takes...30 minutes to cross? I'm just comparing because I know the rs map more so than any other map. You aren't going to be killed every hour, unless you go looking to be killed, or you're an idiot. Sure maybe the odd time you'll see someone if you're trying to stay away from people, but even then those people will be either not looking for a fight, could be lower level, or they could actually be higher and totally just looking to pwn wanderers. Though not to mention that the AI of monsters will probably kill you more than players ever will. According to the beta testers, they got pwnt badly by the low level goblins at the beginning. I can't wait to hear the 'Omg, mobs are too hard to kill cause they resemble players too much!!!' posts on the forum. Dying, and to be FEARFUL of dying is part of this game. Dying in real life, is horrible. Dying in a video game, why should it be any different? Realism, that should benefit every aspect of the game, like the market/economy! As Nadril has been saying, it's the same concept as in Runescape. You aren't going to take the best gear for range or magic out into the wild, when you know you won't be able to protect it all. You'll bring the cheaper, easier stuff to get. Sure this might mean that the very hard gear to get, may not be used all the time, but perhaps in group pvp it'll be used more, but even then, most people would rather sell that gear that is hard to get, and buy supplies of lower gear so they can die more, but over all kill more in the process.

@Ray; Good players won't be the ones complaining about losing their stuff when they die. They'll be the ones to get over it, make more armour, and then beat the people that killed them in the first place.

Lol, I got the hint. But that article, if you take away the glorification, is pretty much what we're talking about here.

And here's fanboyness reaching publicity: http://news.mmosite.com/content/2008-12 ... 92,1.shtml He makes good points in there but it's glorifying it way too much. You know that's the same feeling I get when I play most MMO's. Go, kill this, then do this. Whether it's for the crafting, PvP, Quests, or Raiding/Hunting. There's not enough tactics, strategy and creativity around these four golden features at all in the most popular or common current MMO models.

I only picked that card because it was the lowest one in price I could with dual DVI.

Runescape has good gameplay if you're 9 to 15. The gameplay is for people in that age area. Why so many of us started playing it before we were 15. Runescape has huge depth in all of it's features, for sure, but how you make your way into that depth is what matters. Runescape isn't for the 18+ crowd that is looking for a dark, mature themed game. That's why it gets hated on. I've quit Runescape but it is still better than most MMO's coming out today. Everything in Runescape has depth as well...but really why compare it to Runescape? I'm pretty sure 3/4s of the RS community will either never hear of DF, or will not be able to afford it. There's no sagespots in the game, but there are NPC guards. I'm pretty sure that they'll be overpowered gods anyways. So you can bank your materials & everything else anyways. Though getting the materials, or killing things might be difficult, but then again the PvP aspect of the game is like nothing we've seen before. You can't turn around and look behind you, you can but you have to stop moving and sit down and such, but while running/moving or in a stance, you can't. Hitboxes & real time combat. I know in AoC that this made everything superbly easy to get away from pvpers easily. There's apparently suppose to be very significant punishments through-out the server if you kill people low level, or you just kill anyways. For instance it's been said that shops (which you basically buy everything from to advance in the game), will not sell you items. You'll need these items however when your sword decays from pvping too much. But now you can't repair, and now you can't pk/fight. Sure you could have stocked up on everything beforehand but I'm just pointing out that there will be consequences for pvpers that should make them weary about ganking. But I'm just guessing from whats been said around everywhere. Gear is going to be made from crafting Nadril. Or so they've said the majority of gear will be from the crafting system, with some from drops & NPC stores. If you read in the The Noob's preview, the part 4 or 5 talk about making arrows, and how long it was to make them. So I'm not particularly sure on that it will be easy to obtain gear, especially with skill decay.

There will be a monthly fee, and most likely an initial fee of buying the game. Too bad it's been taken. =P

It'll kill your addiction towards SSBB. But everything we've been told, basically. But they've not just taken the content, they've re-organized, and made it so that it works well with everything else. Or so we're told. They've been telling us a lot of cool, spectacular things. A good portion of those things have been confirmed through the preview from The Noob. Though there is still a lot to be answered for in the CBT, and hopefully that NDA is lifted soon, everything Adventurine has said thus far, excluding release dates, has been true, or close to it that I don't think it'll be an AoC fail. At anything in my mind it'll do better than Tortage did alone, but even if it is awesome, the hardcore pvp oriented style of the game will probably put off the roleplayers, and pve nubs (lol). =P

I was under the impression that even though it was an EU release, NA's could still play along with the Europeans? Or has that recently changed? Reading around the forums though you get the thought that the developers have taken in NA's for hardware testing, and other non-europeans as well. @Steve, yea, they haven't released any yet, but they have said that the game will scale 'perfectly' to the video card you have, assuming it's above the 7 series from nVidia or equavilent (or so we've been told, though forumfallers make up tons of crap each day).

Spell Check Feature
Impractical. People post in such idiotical methods for their own enjoyment, or to annoy others. They are the IE users, or the ones who disregard spellcheckers. They'll eventually learn to spell somewhat more decently before this feature could even be thought about being seriously added by the admins. Still it wouldn't encourage better spelling anyways. I'd prefer Tip.It would spend time on any of the numerous suggestions that have more meaning, and much more purpose than this.

Help & Advice Forum Revamp
I was about to post about how H&A is good and shouldn't be touched, but adding those forums as sub-forums? Yea, that's even worse. T&C already has enough traffic going through it compared to other forums entirely centred around Technology. Yea, Tip.It is a pretty good place to go for basic tech help. Though T&C isn't just therefor tech help, some people are starting to post articles and updates revolving around technology in there...so the activity in my mind is picking up. Can't comment on GH&A.

DarkFall - Officially Launched
*Go to page 6 for the post regarding the title* Website: http://www.darkfallonline.com Forums: http://forums.darkfallonline.com/index.php Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkfall MMoSite Description: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?game=4&bhcp=1 (Read, it's basically a review on what will be in thegame) DarkFall has been in development since 2003, as well as a community of hardcore followers since 2001. DarkFall is an MMO, and has been branded as a next-generation MMO as well. It has been in any major or decent MMO/Gaming site at least twice since 2003. DarkFall is currently in Closed Beta, with the release date in late January pending, one can suspect Open Beta will be starting sometime soon. However beta has been circling around since 2005, and thus Closed Beta only started back in September/October (or later). That small defect is because DarkFall is produced, and developed by a 30 or so man company, called Adventurine, based in Athens, Greece. All of the developers working on DarkFall have had their hands in other MMO's like WoW, Everquest, & had worked on the early beginnings of AoC (don't let that bother you though about quality). These developers or staff of the company do have strong community ties through the forums as well. Currently the NDA is still in effect except for one particular individual who hosts the infamous 'The Noob' webcomic (gf misfile). This individual has been posting decently long & detailed descriptions of the game through-out their time playing it. Read it here: http://beta.thenoobcomic.com/df_preview/intro.html *Pictures and text, good luck! Because this game is in Closed Beta, and I have not played it, I can't comment on the content or anything, even with the NDA. Thus I'm just going to quote specifics from different articles across the web, that should interest you in this game: - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkfall#Unique_features *Tbh, Wikipedia has a lot of information regarding DF, especially with sources as well, Wikipedia should be checked out! Though I should point out this small thing in Wikipedia: Currently the closed beta, and official date launch as well as having the person from The Noob commenting on the game, is as close as we've gotten to seeing a release, and Adventurine is sounding pretty confident and getting straight to the point this time rather than avoiding key questions and specifics like last time. I'm just posting this so I don't get flamed for it later on. =P Anyways here's a forum post by the developers/admins on their forums from CBT announcing what they think of the game, good read: http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=82111 Media/Images: *These were taken on the medium, or default settings. These aren't the high or ultra high or enthusiast settings, or even the scalable graphics towards your default video memory. The black lines in these pictures are put in there so you can see the buildings & small things more clearly or so we think. [hide=Fun] [/hide] ----- My main goal of this post is just to get the Tip.It community aware of this game and when it'll be released. From the limited content & screenshots that we have, we can discuss it and ask questions about it as well. Also to inform people of Open Beta as well, and when or if it does go live at some point before the release. This a massive, hugely anticipated game. It sounds like it will be a large competitor against WoW & other MMO's. Discuss, Elaborate, and Enjoy, - Skate ~ I've been following DF since 2005, and I'm genuinely excited for this game. If you've read the wikipedia page at least, or read some of the other links, you'll probably be just as excited as well for this release. This MMO has basically everything any MMO has, reinvented it, and then put it's own creative spin on it, with more features we haven't seen, or only dreamed of. Here's a link to the official site and the features page: http://www.darkfallonline.com/features/ Really looking forward to discussing this game and speculating on things with Tip.It'ers here, and will enjoy the topic through beta and into official launch! Hopefully some of you have been informed or at least know of this MMO (Nadril, lol). - When beta starts, I'll update this main post with a blog sort of thing of my daily playing. When the official launch is for go, I'll be blogging the same way, but it'll be more official and such...Who nkows, I'm excited, and I want to share it with you guys. * Some spelling mistakes because my FF 3.1 Beta 2 is giving me annoyances with no spellcheck, and so is Chrome...>.>

Browser speeds
Don't mean to nag or start an argument here but you've given no reasons except vague, general descriptions which could be applied to any decent browser like FF/Opera or Chrome. Reasons you listed were also quite personal with the 'ridiculously easy interface', which can be said for any browser, and especially those that let you change or mess around with the skins. What facts? The ones posted in this topic are so close that they'll hardly ever be subjected or thought about to the normal regular user. The only things I found useful in Chrome was better support for my CPU, as well as having a 'favourite site' thing(Same thing in Opera) when you make a new tab, and the list of bookmarks/latest history as well. Those were what were useful compared to other browsers, but now with Firefox 3.1 almost coming out of Beta FF will be back on top with features for sure. But yea, I was just getting bugged by how you stated reasons but had none to begin with. Or do you have any? Not trying to be mean or a smart idiot about it but it's just bothersome.

Dual Monitor + WoW + Question
Not much power for 07/08 computers. Anyways here's the guys comp: http://www.dell.com/content/products/pr ... l=en&s=dfh Accrding to WoW's reqs & the CPU in that machine: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=2& ... odelmenu=1 I found that for $70. And for $30 more you get this from nVidia: http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph ... 99.243.390 Gf price/performance Nvidia. Though someone should confirm I'm not missing something totally obvious with these. >.> Though the one thing I couldn't find is the power needed for either card. So I don't know if the PSU will be able to handle dual monitor/graphics card(s). That's about as far as I'm gonna go with this. Sorry if I've screwed up somewhere.

Can someone please help?
Remove the ad-aware program and see if that works (though I doubt it). Also use different browsers and see if the same problem occurs. Since you have a 3 year old comp, I'm gonna assume an old CPU, and that you've got some new program(s) or whatever going on while you play Runescape. Could be something in the taskbar that is hidden, or something in your processes. Take pics of your CPU percentage being used while you try and play Rs.

Browser speeds
Don't really think anyone was trying to convince anyone to switch religi...browsers*. But yea, Chrome is faster, but after using it for several months, I've come back to FF just because of the spellcheck and the customization available. The FF beta update thing has given us the default features we've wanted, and the features that in my mind put it ahead of Chrome & Opera even further. No idea how IE7 has remained so slow and so unappealing through-out the years, thought Microsoft could learn, but guess not.

I cant find any good MMOFPS
The top 50 will be filled with the hardcore players, mixed with the hackers who manipulate exp points and such. Though it is a nice goal to look forward to, as the longer you play, the higher the chance you have of achieving such a rank. There's no special benefits or anything for them, except for maybe greater input on game issues and the basic stuff of being popular. The guy who is at #1 right now, joined on July 16th, that is 6 months. That is 6 months for 1.1 million experience. So 48 months I think to achieve the 8 mill mark. It's also noted that this guy has publicly stated that he plays anywhere from 15 to 20 hours per day. So I can expect it to be triple as long for casual players to get anywhere near there. Though you must have the initial experience in order to have the rank. Meaning even if you are #1 you need the 8mill experience to have the General of The Army rank, or Major General. Patch was delayed for tomorrow sadly. Though we got told it was big enough to keep us occupied till January, marketing or moral ploy who knows. Might be worth bumping the 4 month old topic. =P

I cant find any good MMOFPS
If you were saying that to the OP for being Canadian...-.- Anyways, I'm a vivid player of Combat Arms, so let me give you a biased recommendation! viewtopic.php?f=151&t=756841 That's the topic I made on CA some time ago. There's 3 more maps than whats on there, and there's actually quite a bit more since I posted it in September. You'll just have to compare the features in that topic to the ones that are on the site, or in the patch notes. Things to remember: - We get new content every two weeks (This Wednesday we get a new game mode apparently) - We get a new map every two months - We have seasonal or whatever XP increasing events - They ban over 30k chammers/hackers each week - Nexon the American publisher, has it's own developers, who are allowed to edit, change or create new content for us, thus problems do get fixed - P2P items, or the black market, contains no items that will overpower those who do not pay for anything. Meaning you can't buy an awesome gun and own those who don't pay. It's a fair fight all the time. - It's a live and active community - http://www.wogl.org is an upcoming dominant league for clans - There's tons to do: --> Ranks, so many freaking ranks, I swear it'll take even the most hardcore players another year and a half to reach the top ranks --> Guns; It is my goal to try at least every gun, as each one is different and it's just entertaining --> Clans; Yea, it's intense with clan matches --> There's 1.5 million players and increasing daily, it's very easy to get into the top 20k players right now. I'm in the top 10k, and it's still a rush to try and get higher in the ranks, competing with others daily! --> There's 4 game modes, and might be 5 this Wednesday. --> There's 8 maps or so I think? There's a map for everyone anyways, pure sniping, pure AR's...and then there's stuff that mixes everything and dang, trying to learn each map is a good two months anyways BlackShot, CrossFire, & Soldier Front all suck. Don't ever touch them unless you want to refuel your addiction for CA.

Most amount of time you've ever put into a video game?
Runescape counts for like 5 or so years. Though my Xfire says: http://www.xfire.com/profile/inkofdeath/ That I've played 400 hours in Age of Conan and another 400 in Combat Arms, and 231 hours in Rappelz. Bleh so many annoying games to play.
