  1. What antivirus are you using? Also I see a torrent program so make sure there arent anyything fishy in your downloads.
  2. That solution kind of sounded like just avoiding the problem instead of solving it. As said above make sure you properly installed the cpu and heatsink, check your heatsink and if you feel the heat released is excessive then try reinstalling from scratch. The motherboard sensor is arguably one of the most important features, really odd there would be a glitch there. Trust me its better now then having a burnt out CPU in 2 weeks with voided warranty. (Try updating BIOS? there may be a bugfix that will patch you're problem and allow you to use the sensor correctly.)
  3. In that case it looks like your heatsink (cooler) for your CPU is either not working correctly or that the thermal paste allowing the heat transfer from your CPU is drying out (which makes it overheat). I wouldn't be surprised if this was a relatively old computer. You can purchase a 3rd party cooler which means it allows for lower temperatures and keep your CPU running smoothly, normally computers come with "stock coolers" which are usually just minimal and gets the job done. Spending another 20-50 dollars on another cooler will do your computer good and keep it running healthy. I'm not sure about your knowledge in computer parts so you have a few options. Your options now: -Read my post above and download Speccy to give up a complete list of your hardware configuration and we will help you replace the CPU heatsink or reapply fresh thermal paste. -Take it to a professional and explain exactly what your problem is. You will save money if you allow us to recommend a heatsink that will work perfectly and all you have to do is take it to him and ask him to change it. This prevents the Tech from ripping you off buy purchasing some ridiculously expensive one ect. Just for reference we are talking about this piece on your motherboard, it may look different depending on your model.
  4. Download Speccy and post up your entire configuration, shows temperatures as well. http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download Very likley a heating issue, as advised above using a can of compressed air while the computer is off clear any dust accumulating in your computer. Your CPU is just way too hot when it runs at 80° C so make sure to spend extra effort to clean that out well. It could also be a RAM problem, but after the clean we can see other options. Good luck.
  5. That sentence is funny to me considering the last few people having crashes while playing video games were solved when the OP cleaned out his/her computer or checked to see if his system is overheating or reinstalling software. You don't exactly need to have a Doctorate in computer sciences to offer advice for a problem like this. FYI, I work as a tech in a university too.
  6. Post results from both of these websitest to see if it might be a problem with your modem not giving out a consistent bandwidth. www.Pingtest.net www.Speedtest.net
  7. -When reinstalling completely remove the program first and then try downloading the latest version. -Navigate through the folders and delete the folder entirely so when reinstalling it would have to make a fresh installation -Lastly, if all else fails then head to Start-> and open "Run", from there type in Regedit (to edit windows registry). From there, on the left there will be HKEY_CURRENT_USER and in the dropdown will be "Software", navigate down until you see "Javasoft" and on the folder delete the registry key. (Do not to attempt to remove anything else as it WILL cause negative effects on your computer). And try a re-install and hopefully it works.
  8. Deleted registry keys that contained steam information then did a reinstall of steam and TF2 and worked. After that I did a Clean install of windows and just installed everything from scratch. Either option solved my problem. Thanks for the responses, learned a few things too.
  9. Did that along with defragmenting cache files and still no progress. If anything I would just reinstall again and see if that works. If anyone has more ideas i'm open to them.
  10. I'm pretty new to steam and after downloading TF2 on my computer I'm able to see the Valve logo along with the Source engine cenemaic logo. But shortly after where a cutscene introducing the game is supposed to start my computer stays black and the game stops responding. There is no error that comes up, it just shows my mouse pointer loading and from then on nothing but black. Its clearly something wrong with steam seeing as I can play other games perfectly but even after several reinstall the same problem occurs. I made a clean reinstall about 2 weeks ago so all my drivers are up to date. Thanks. 11. Make sure your floppy drive in the BIOS setting is set to OFF. Then try with your HDD in and see if you boot.
  12. Well you could just scrap it together if you find the piece that fell off and just krazy glue it back, but id recommend getting a new mouse, bought this budget mouse a while ago and I've been very comfortable with it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826146009
  13. Lets us know what model router you have, it should say it on the back of it somewhere. Generally when router problem occur the smart move is to upgrade your [possibly old] firmware and see if you get better performance. Also try updating the driver for your laptops/desktops wireless card which you can find out by going to Control Panel-> Device Manager and check the drop down list. Also post your results from both of these websites, run them both 2 times each to get a more accurate result. www.Speedtest.net www.Pingtest.net
  14. This reminds me of certain antivirus' that hog all the CPU power in order to run a scan. Post your antivirus and/or realtime scanning or updating software. Might also be a problem with one of your ram sticks, try running Memtest86 for an hour or so to see if any errors occur. Update your drivers if you haven't already and any software along with that. Just wondering but is your motherboard a good quality one? I've heard problems like this being solved by replacing the motherboard to handle the components better.
  15. Generally speaking you get more performance "bang for your buck" out of Desktop then you would on a laptop. Along with the ability to customize it for your needs, you have the ability to upgrade it and change components freely. Now the question here is are you in any way capable of building your own computer which would save you a lot of money. If not, we could still find something in your price range that will satisfy your gaming needs.
  16. I have the same Realtek control panel on my computer, so I see what your problem is. When I insert lets say my headphones in the front audio panels the popup asks me what I just plugged in, does this show up for you? Do you have the icon as shown in my desktop, or access to the panel so you can check the settings? Also did you try downgrading to an earlier driver to see if you have the same problem. Also for an attempt, when you run the Realtek Program and it failed have you tried right clicking and running as administrator or possibly compatibility? I hope maybe if we compare setups we can root out the problem
  17. I may have a few ideas that might contribute to your problem. But seeing as you post here regularly and know your way around a a computer, how about posting all of your system specs so we can get a bigger picture. Partially confused because you say you've upgraded to windows 7 but it looks like a Vista desktop. I would say that there is a conflict between windows controlling sound and Realtek. Edit: Nevermind, just noticed it was just a picture for reference, but system specs would help.
  18. Might I offer the suggestion of some nice high quality/gaming level headphones, sounds perfect for your situation and can be used practically everywhere.
  19. Im up to 95% sure that any SATA drive will work, it will be clocked at slower speeds due to the motherboard to 1.5 g/s. The 5% uncertainty is because it is a Mac.
  20. A full tower allows for improved air flow, usually better cable organization, and more hard drive bays/optical drives, also its almost guaranteed any future upgrades will comfortably fit. The cons of full towers are there are just a bit more expensive and need more room. Gigabyte is a respectable company, personally I am an ASUS person and find their Sandy Bridge MBs are phenomenal. That motherboard is fine but just have another look around. I personally use the CM Hyper 212 Plus for my build, it really is amazing for its price and performance. I get 28 C idle and never over 48 on max, overclocking adds only about 5 degrees more on the min and max. I have it overclocked to about 4.4Ghz on air. Crossfire is AMDs name on the way they allow multiple GPUs of the same model to be used in tandem to achieve even better performance. It almost doubles your graphics potential if you buy two of the same cards. This allows you to buy another graphics cards and utilize both of them rather then just replacing them. Nividia has their own called SLI which does the same thing. Nice link here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/245454-33-crossfire-faqs
  21. Everything looks good, the i5 2005k is a great processor, i'm currently using it on my build and its excellent. I HIGHLY recommend getting an after-market cooler, the stock just won't cut it if your doing overclocks (and you'd be kicking yourself in the nuts that you aren't getting its full potential if you don't OC). With my Asus motherboard I literally get over a 1Ghz faster overclock with a simple press of a button. Personally I've never liked Gigabyte motherboards because of their capacitors and just that I prefer some companies over others. I might also wan't to recommend getting a full tower if you have the space to do so, its really so much nicer to have room for upgrades and just peace of mind having so much workroom. New CPU cooler, along with a nice tube of thermal paste Maybe check other motherboards See if you're interested in full towers
  22. It is possible your antivirus may be blocking a connection between the windows update server and your computer. Also if you've ever had Norton, I had a few experiences where it conflicted heavily with system tasks. Try a quick update while your antivirus is off and see. My money is on your firewall/antivirus that may have been compromised/altered by your malware attack.
  23. Im completely bewildered why you would need to use readyboost on a system that has 16gb of ram... Anyways... If you can check the connections coming from the case front usb ports to the motherboard, out and in the same way as you saw (or wait for the professional). As for the flash drive did you eliminate the problem down to the stick or the usb ports? If the usb ports work then does the flash drive light up (if it has lights), can you see it as a drive on your computer, can you hear a ping sound when you plug it in. If theres nothing wrong with the usb stick and the usb ports are working, head into Disk Management (Control Panel) and see if you can find your device there. Once there try changing the letter of the drive or format it. To get to disk management Click the "Start" orb, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage" to launch "Computer Management."
  24. Any chance you could post some system specs of your current computer. It is possible that there is upgrade options and you'll be able to spend your money on key upgrades rather then on an entirely new system. A 200-300 budget is a very tight one. Newegg is a great place to start seeing as they have Do it Yourself kits that include everything needed hardware-wise to build a system. http://www.newegg.com/Store/MasterComboStore.aspx?StoreID=7&name=DIY-PC-Combos On the left you can see different price ranges and compare builds. For building a new computer you need the following items Computer Case Power Supply* Motherboard Processor Cpu Heatsink/Fan* Thermal Paste* Hard Drive Memory (RAM) Optical Drives* *Cpu Heatsink/fan along with thermal paste are often included with the purchase of a new processor *Optical Drives are not nesessary but having a dvd/cd reader/writer allows you to use CD's *Power supplies are sometimes included with a purchase of a computer case We'll more than happy to give you advice and help you build a list but its good to look around and see if you could push your budget a bit further to get more "bang for your buck".
