  1. My favorites are a toss up between 3: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Diablo II, and Planescape: Torment. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Not only is this game tremendously well executed, it has well established characters, a nice take on the Star Wars universe and bar far *minor spoiler*the best twist you'll ever see in a game (but I didn't tell you that, twists are ruined when you know they're coming, even if you don't know when or what). It has great combat, tonnes of spells and items, and replay value for at least 2 games one-after-the-other (one of the only games I've ever done this for). Diablo II: This may not seem like it's the greatest RPG ever, and it may seem like standard hack-and-slash fair, but once you get well established and know your way around, this is an incredible achievement. It doesn't quite have the same atmosphere as Diablo 1, but it expands on it in every other way (Diablo 1 is also one of my fav RPGS). There's almost infinite amounts of different items, perhaps the very best character building/skill tree system I've ever seen, and great gameplay. It also has amazing attention to detail, unmatched sound save for possibly Warcraft 3 (Blizzard are the ultimate sound people of anyone ever), and while the graphics are nothing special (they do the job), it has incredible, realistic animation and spell effect (yes, realistic magic spell effects :P ). The attention to detail is astounding. It has more replay value than perhaps any game you'll ever play (other than perhaps some MMORPG's and maybe some multiplayer games, but I might even still give the title to D2). All this, coupled with an extremely underrated and oft forgotten story and *minor spoiler*Both D1 and D2 have incredible twist endings, especially D2. You just never realise it because you've probably been through the game 150 times and always skip the cutscenes. And finally, Planescape: Torment: This game has the best story you will ever find anywhere, in any medium. It completely destroys all other games in terms of story, and I can honestly say it matches or even surpasses almost every movie or book I've ever experienced. And that's what this game is: an experience. You don't just play it, it's so well done you are put into this game. It has an amazingly cool main character, whom says only a few lines of dialogue through the whole game. What he does say is amazing, and it leaves so much room for you to actually play as the character, instead of just guiding a pre-made character on their mission. This game also has the very best "play how you want" system, as there are so many different quests and so many ways to define who you want to be throughout the game (along with about 5 different endings based on how you want to play). The party characters, while limited, are indescribably better than any you'll find in another game, each has there own reason for being in the game, each their own reason for joining (a legitimate one), each there own quest they want to complete, and each and completely different hero that is better fleshed out than pretty well every MAIN character you've ever seen. The atmosphere is oozing with style and complexity, it's well written and presented dialogue, and world is actually FUN to explore and is artistically brilliant. Spell effects are jaw dropping (some of the bigger spells get their very own CG cutscene, others are good aswell, though). There's probably something I've forgotten, but it's just in indescribably well made game (with a touch of morbid humor where its needed).
  2. The singer is funny, with his bow tie and his grunge music.
  3. I'd say it's more that there just generally aren't as big of variety of movies. Sure, there's all different types of genres, but a lot of them are all set up in the same way. I think there's also less movies, and more people like each movie...Like, Da Vinci code, like 10 million Americans went to see that last weekend, because it was either that or one of the other 2-3 major releases. With music you get hundreds of different songs, from a dozen different genres being released every week. So I think many movies appeal to a large audience because they have to, music doesn't because they are all trying to find a niche and then they will do just fine. However, this only explains why more people may have similar tastes in movies, and not why people get so defensive about there own kind. I think it's because music has a much greater effect on Western culture. Music is everywhere, musicians change the styles of clothing/talking/acting way more than movies, and they change people. And then people become more divided, each with there little niche, and then it's a constant stuggle for power.
  4. Burning. Absolutely burning. Because I wouldn't die. I'd just turn into Ignus. See: Coooool. And even if I did die, I'd be Ignus for a bit. Way better than being a big chunk of ice.
  5. Just get the DOSBox from sf ;) http://dosbox.sourceforge.net I already have DOSBox, but it's just not the same :| Good thing I got an old windows 3.11 machine :wiggle: My parents gave my old 3.1 away :(. Dosbox works for some games, but my fav, Dark Forces, has a lot of problems (no sound, no savegames).
  6. I really, really can't stand coldness/blizzardness, it's really a shame I live in Canada. I have terrible circulation, so it's extremely difficult for me to get warm, especially in my feet. I like the rain, I like heat, and it's pretty humid where I am, but I can stand it (air conditioning ftw). I really can't stand cold. Cuz even when you're inside its terribly dry and I am thirsty and my skin gets digustingly dry.
  7. Juice is a good movie. So they played a good movie on BET, so that erases everything else it has on? Your argument fails to persuade. Juice.
  8. Dude, nothing wrong with BET. I mean, just yesterday it showed JUICE. That's got Sammy L. How could a channel be bad with Sammy L.? And Tupac? In conclusion: BET>Xbox360.
  9. Hmmmm. Nothing has changed my life permanently. One of note is Memento, as for a few days after that I started forgetting things...It was so well characterized that for some reason I thought I was the main character. I gotta lay off the drugs, maybe. On second though, I think Star Wars probably changed my life, in conjuntion with the video game Dark Forces (based on Star Wars). The two combined to start my, as of now, lifelong love with both movies and PC games.
  10. Do you watch all movies in English? And I read through the first 10 or so movies, a lot of them have Dutch subtitles. Do you then watch them in Dutch subtitles with English, or can you understand it spoken as well as you can written, so its unnecessary? Does that also mean if it's in like Japanese and there's no Dutch subtitles then you watch it in English?
  11. You can pretty much take any course you need here. There's always several different times for the biggest courses (you can always get into whatever English course is right for you, because every single person in the school has to take it every year). There's plenty of math and chemistry courses aswell. We have a wide variety of more obscure courses aswell that you may or may not get into (accounting, architecture, stain glass and so forth). These courses, and the tech courses (auto shop, woodworking, computer tech) are mostly available, but don't have the best or most qualified teachers as it's simply difficult to find anyone else who wants/can teach them. We also have some cool courses like guitar, percussion/drums, and weightlifting. There's plenty of variety. Though I wish there was a film studies course :|.
  12. Watched two movies this weekend, both ones where I was repeatedly checking the clock to see when they would be over. The first I watched was The New World, with Colin Farell (to his credit, he actually did pretty good), among other people. This movie was horrendously boring, though it shouldn't have been. The first 20 minutes I was very, very impressed, and excited to see what would happen. It looked amazing, and it started what appeared to be an interesting story. Between 20mins-an hour it started to slow down, but was still pretty good. Then it just stopped. Scene after pointless scene, the plot completely dropped, and it just kept going and going and going and going and going and going...Until I just wanted it to end so much. But I feel you can't legitimately say a movie was bad unless you watch it all the way through. So I did. And I was so...bored...I couldn't even stand it. The second I watched was slightly better. I watched The Producers. Now, don't get me wrong: I don't think this was a bad movie. It's just that this is the exact opposite of my tastes in movie, and I simply could NOT get into it. It had good acting, and was well choregraphed and directed as musicals go, but I just simply can't get into musicals. When it isn't in song, this is a pretty good movie. It's funny and smart, but I just can't get into the songs or anything. As they just seem to drag on. Not my taste at all. So there was 4.5 hours of unhappy movie time this weekend. This week I will watch The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, which I hope will be good (I rented it a few weeks ago but couldn't watch it).
  13. I don't see why everyone calls it a Revolution. Wii is a perfectly fine name. Sure, the first day, everyone was going bananas about the wierd, phallic-sounding name, but only a few weeks later, most people have come to terms with it, and I think its increased talk about Nintendos console. People need to come to terms with it: this is the name, and it's a better name than Revolution, which would have been a fine, but ultimately mediocre name.
  14. Wait...This is a classic games thread. Oblivion came out like 2 months ago :S. And Morrowind like, 2003. Those are wholly modern games. As for classic, I like Dark Forces the most. The base game trumps Doom in every concievable way (the only things Doom has on it are LAN play and a lot more levels, however poorly designed they may be). Seriously Dark Forces destroys Doom in story, level design, gameplay, weapon/enemy design. It's just a lot better. I think I really could have into X-com if I had started it in 1993-1995. It seems like a really cool game. I downloaded it off fileplanet like last week, and while it seems good, it seems to complicated for me to want to spend the time playing a 13 year old game to want to try it. There's a few other games I like, that are very old, but not necesarily considered classics. I also want to try the original System Shock.

Def not seeing it in theatres, even if someone paid for it. The first two are some of the worst movies I've ever seen. I'd seriously rather watch Daredevil or any other terrible super hero movie than X-men.
  16. I watched Planet of The Apes, the original. It blew me away. I already knew how it ended, with it's big-twist ending, and even knowing that, it still blew me away. That's how you know you have a good movie. It doesn't have to rely on simply a twist ending, it's amazing throughout. It had about a dozen awesome quotes, Charlton Heston...Well, he's an incredible actor in general, so there's not much needs to be said other than he did excellent in this role. The camera work was amazing, and it flowed very well. The story was amazing, every single part, and the dialogue just felt right (the supporting cast was also extremely well acted). And the statement it makes is apparent without being in-your-face. This is a really, really good movie. And it reminds me just how bad the remake is.
  17. This is good news. The faster they pump out betas, the faster the real Vista will come out (Analysts have predicted Q2 2007 for Vista, but Microsoft stays firm that it will be out in January) If they pull off even a relatively clean launch in January, I'm cool with that.
  18. Intel Pentium 4 520 2.8Ghz CPU ATI Radeon x300SE 128mb GPU 1.5GB of RAM I'm happy with it for now, as it still runs good games. However, I think I'm gonna work extra hard this summer and get a new comp with: Intel Core 2 Extreme processor (Duel core, running at I don't even know what yet, but it will be mad fast [if I can't get this, I will get a Duel Core Pentium D with 3.2Ghz) 2Gig of RAM (I may take a gig out of my comp above and put it in this...we'll have to see if that all works out, but 3gigs would be sick) As for graphics, I'm looking at a Vista-ready to come out some time in the summer, and once I make sure it works well and is going to be great, I'll get it) I want to play Crysis good.
  19. Man, you guys gotta be on crack. Doom being the worst game ever? Half-Life? Even Halo, which I dislike a lot, is clearly not worse than lots of stuff. How the hell could you like Halo and think Doom is the worst game ever? If there was no Doom, there wouldn't have been a Halo/it wouldn't be as good/it wouldn't have come out as soon. While Dooms revolutions may be overstated slightly, it did bring online deathmath, which is a huge advancement for its time. For it's time it was a pretty darn good game. (Not as good as Dark Forces...:)) Either you guys are joking, or you really need to start playing more games before voicing and opinion.
  20. Halo 1 was not good, but that doesn't make it the worst game ever. Easily the most overrated game ever, but it was still fine. Atleast it was free of major bugs, and it was quite playable. Just rediculously overrated. Haven't played Halo 2 single-player, but based on lots of multiplyaer playing, I can tell it's pretty much the same. The worst game? I'd say Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing Basically it's a racing game without the racing or the game. You are in a truck and aparently it's a race and you are supposed to escape the police. BUT, the opposition just sits at the starting line when the race starts, and there are no cops. There's no competition, no timelimit. Not only that, but you can accelerate rediculously fast, and get this: you can accelerate infinately faster and faster just by holding down the forward key. Then stop on a dime. You can travel up vertical mountains and out into a big grey nothingness where you just keep going faster and faster. And it doesn't matter about the speed or the controls, you can drive through anything and everything. Want to go over that bridge? Forget it, it doesn't exist, you'll fall through. That building? Ghost building, you'll go right through. There's also ridiculously poor graphics, and no sound effects to speak of other than a few techno tracks. The only redeeming feature of the game is that when you get the the finish line, it says "YOUR WINNER" And when do you think this game came out? 2003. Now that's just stupid.
  21. We finally agree on something ;).
  22. Probably cuz it's not as good as most of their other ablums :P . I mean, it beats...Umma Gumma, and it beats A Momentary Lapse of Reason. I haven't listened to More or The Division Bell in a very long time, so I can't really remember how good they are. But personally I think after Waters took over they got much better. The first one is Saucerful of secrets or Piper at the gates of dawn? If it is PATGOD I strongly disagree, in my opinion it is as good as (or even better than) The Wall, DSOFM and WYWH. Sure it's PATGOD, though I would call it Piper for short. I guess we strongly disagree then. Because I prefer...DSOTM, The Wall, WYWH, Animals, Atom Heart Mother, A Saucerful of Secrets and probably Meddle better than Piper. And as I said before I can't remember Obscured very well, but I think I liked it better as well. Don't get me wrong, Piper is good, and even underrated, but not even in the same league as any of the albums I've said above IMO.
  23. It can go either way, depending on the sport. However, I note that college football (or 'American Football' :\) Is infinitely better than NFL football. They have so much more heart and hussle out there. They aren't as big, so they are quicker, and they get rocked harder. They are also working their best to get into the NFL. For some of them, it's either the NFL, or it's working in a factory or fast food joint. They put so much more heart in there, and they don't give there people any grief. You don't have to deal with people like Terrell Owens, because if people are giving there team, officials grief, they toss em, and one of the thousands of other people qualified. It's just so much more fun to watch, they are always giving it there all.
  24. Probably cuz it's not as good as most of their other ablums :P . I mean, it beats...Umma Gumma, and it beats A Momentary Lapse of Reason.
