I wonder how easy it will be to mod. I can definitely see some potential here.
  3. I have little difficulty accepting everything else you mentioned, but I am specifically having trouble here. What do you mean exactly by "make sense out of the world" and how does it destroy one's capacity to bestow meaning to our surroundings? How is religion capable of doing so?
  4. In addition to the above list, you could try Glacors
  5. Both Wikipedia and About use credible references, which is why I never saw the point of attacking sources in general without specifically pointing out actual specific flaws with the articles. Here's a neato reference used by Wikipedia. There's also this book that they pull some stuff from. Since you're committed to only closing the argument with ad hominem and other fallacious tactics, it would appear fortunate that you have claimed to have made your probable last post; I guess the rest of the thread can continue without further obstruction and with a clearer definition on terms.
  6. Well not really. I really see no problem with About.com or any of my sources to be perfectly honest, yet you seem so hinged on it.
  7. This is not an argument.
  8. The problem here is the use of gnostic atheism as a term is not widespread, but is more of a contemporary term used to describe a mode of religion. Given that there has been no actual formality in recognizing gnostic atheism as the appropriate term, it's really no surprise that a dictionary would not cite it as a definition. All that aside, gnostic atheism is a very nice term given that gnostic would make sense to be the opposite of agnostic. It is true that Gnosticism is in fact a Christian sect, but the word it self can be traced to the latin root gnosis, which means knowledge. In the way that agnostic means we cannot have knowledge of or actually prove something, gnostic in this sense would mean that we could. The similarity in terms makes it a very convenient term. Other similar terms would be strong atheism, positive atheism, or explicit atheism. See here. It is also important to distinguish the popular use of a term and it's strict meaning. Agnosticism, at its heart, simply means that one cannot know a particular thing. You will find this definition everywhere, including Merriam, as a definition. Oxford, Encyclopedia Britannica, and of course, Wikipedia, are similar in this regard. I never understood people who thought attacking Wikipedia specifically was a particularly effective stance.
  9. If you take another noun and modify it with an adjective, you'll probably find that it also doesn't exist, namely because the dictionary doesn't offer a definition for everything. "Gigantic toes" is a good example. Gnosticism and atheism do exist in the dictionary separately, though Merriam doesn't seem to have the appropriate definition for the former.
  10. I think the whole issue here is that while Quebec students actually pay lower tuition fees for secondary education than just about anywhere else in Canada (by a fair amount actually), long ago there was a promise that tuition would eventually be free. People hung on to that very tightly, but obviously the provincial government can't sustain it. Students are seeing it as a betrayal of trust, a costly one at that while things aren't exactly 100% recovered from the recession. But due to the first point, I can't really sympathize with their cause.
  11. I had this issue on FF. I believe is stems from an issue with compatibility between flash and certain GPUs; to fix this right-click on something that uses flash (eg. Youtube video), select settings (not global settings) and under the first tab untick hardware acceleration.
  12. I'm not sure that actually has to do with irreligiousness. Technically, it's against covering your face in public, not only burqas and niqabs. Some people have also cited that it's a potential security risk.
  13. Excellent advice. A lot of people get turned off by having to grow really low XP crops and having to expend a large amount of effort for little gain. Doing as many quests as possible that grant farming XP early on will help you get over that hump.
  14. There are plenty of religious people who don't have this "additional baggage". I think what you don't like is stupidity, not religion. Or perhaps the "blind faith" and the whole rigidity in which some people choose to embrace it. The primary flaw I see with that concern is that people will do that with a lot of things, not just religion.
  15. *cringe* ...at least they're only cosmetic
  16. Sinkhan replied to Avid43's topic in Help and Advice
Supercompost + secateurs should make it 5 minimum, so long as the patch survives. You can also use a farming juju on the patch as well (so come to HH during another herb run). Greenfingers should also help.
  17. Why is this game so saturated and cluttered now? :/ I miss the old days when there were no ridiculous cosmetic and non-cosmetic items.
  18. Well I guess we are seeing it with suicide bombers (again, I don't actually know if that's accurate. I've read in some places that these people are radicals and not true followers of a faith, but then we get into the Scotsman fallacy) That's a very curious proposition otherwise. How does one not-prevent death while not actively pursuing suicide? Do long term effects count? Would eating unhealthy foods often and smoking be "not-preventing death"?
  19. Are you implying suicide? In many faiths (especially most sects of Christianity), this does not agree with the ideals that will get you there in the first place (though I'm not an expert on the topic)
  20. Mutually exclusive. Agnostics are as far from atheists as they are from theists. You're desperate attempt to group the two together is pathetic. It's like being given three choices: yes, no, i don't know. You're equally arguing no and i don't know to be not mutually exclusive. It's [bleep]ing hilarious. I feel like I'm jumping into this riff raff a little late, but agnosticism and atheism are not mutually exclusive. There seems to have been a gross misunderstanding and improper definition of the term agnosticism by many sides in this discussion. Being agnostic purely means that you just don't believe that there can be any evidence to prove something; to be agnostic towards religion simply means you believe that the actual state of knowing a whether or not a god or god exists is not possible. It does not actually speak to which side of the coin you are on, believer or non-believer. The dictionary definition raised is a little misleading. Over the years, agnosticism has been generalized simply as the "idk about religion" group and that definition in and of itself has been taken as a popular interpretation. That said, Sagan's quote (often used by theists to argue against atheists in general) actually refers to gnostic atheism, which is another flavour of atheism. Gnosticism is the opposite to agnosticism as one could probably reason, meaning that one believes that a certain idea is in fact provable. Sagan specifically mentions "someone who has compelling evidence against the existence of God". Gnostic means yes, I can prove something, and atheism means I believe in no god. Looking at this more generally, we actually have four flavours of belief: Agnostic Atheism: Does not believe in a deity, does not believe evidence to prove either way exists Gnostic Atheism: Does not believe in a deity, believes evidence to prove this to be the case exists Agnostic Theism: Believes in a deity, does not believe evidence to prove either way exists Gnostic Theism: Believes in a deity, believes evidence to prove this to be the case exists Given my history with religious debates, I will simply state that I am firmly agnostic atheist and then only provide objective explanation of concepts, like above.
  21. Sorry, I was under the impression that massive FPS boost we got was Optimus, nevermind. Not sure what you mean by "physically lag", but in any sort of busy areas like the GE, my FPS drops a fair bit.
  22. For the first few days of optimus, my FPS shot up to 40-50 even on maxed out settings. It was great for the time, but it slowly went back down. Drivers and Java versions are up-to-date with old versions of Java removed. I also tried manually increasing the settings for the standalone client to increase the allocated memory to 1024 (up from default 256), but the in-game displayfps dialogue still says it's only using 256ish. I'm now standing around 20 FPS again with nothing else running and on medium settings. Suggestions?
  23. Before you get bandos, ask yourself whether or not you have extremes or fury first. Both of those offer a greater strength boost compared to their lesser counterparts (supers/glory), but for less than the cost of bandos.
  24. Vanguard works in Gold for multiplayer and insanity is like playing against on the lowest difficulty in MP. Playing MP a lot just hones your skills so much. Human engineer turret is a 6 point wonder (as in level 3). Use it on heavies to distract them. Geth turret is insanely good. The shield restore is amazingly powerful and great for squad survivability.
  25. It's a good thing you are; you'll need credits for Rebellion DLC (also free!)
