The world's end
The Bible also says something about don't listen to people that say they know when the end of the world is going to happen if I remember correctly...

My life. And why it sucks. Real bad.
I have to warn everyone this is horribly traumatic. The worst thing ever is when you go to the bathroom, you get that wonderful relaxed relief as you finally get to sit there and do your business and then... you look... No one replaced the toilet paper!! AHHHHHHH!!!! *does the waddle to the bathroom closet* No toilet paper!! AHHHHHH!!!!

The Undisputed King Predator (animal kingdom)
To me the most awesome predator should always be doing the killing and never be killed. Crocodiles can be killed by larger species of the cat family. Killer Whales can eat Great White Sharks. Mongooses and birds of prey can kill cobras and eat them. Bears can be killed by Wolverines. Tigers can defeat Lions. Sperm Whales eat Giant Octopus. About the only things that never get eaten or defeated that I could think of were Killer Whales and Tigers. I guess you could also add Sperm Whales and possibly Wolverines. Actually why am I wasting my breath? Chuck Norris is the greatest predator.

Off the top of my head I would go with Killer Whales or Tigers.- Loopholes in the Senate Immigration Bill
This is an interesting read of some problems two Representatives have with the Bill and some very misleading things in the bill. THE SENATE AMNESTY BILL Summarized by Reps. Lamar Smith (R-TX) and Peter King (R-NY) A SUFFICIENT ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅTRIGGER̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ- So, how hard is university?
Like I said, it all depends on what degree you are in. Freshman year my pre-engineering classes would have hundreds of people in them. They would fill up entire auditoriums. By senior year I graduated with a group of about 30 in Mechanical Engineering. Where did all the people go? They were literally trying to flunk people out until our final semester or two. I remember in my System Dynamics and Analysis class that was one of the very last classes needed before you could take Senior Design II almost half our class dropped out after the first test. Keep in mind these are people that have already passed 3 or 4 years of engineering classes already so they aren't dumb by any means. I pulled a C in that class and was glad for it. In my physics II class I got a 65 on a test and that was the second highest grade in the entire class. It all depends on your major and your teachers. I have seen classes where if you got on professor it was easy and if you had another professor it was really really hard.- The world's end
I am a Christian and I would support both the things you just quoted Satenza. That doesn't show that the founders were anti-Christian by any means. It just means they recognized that when you make government mandated religions bad things happen. They put those things in to allow Quakers, Presbyterians, Catholics, Baptists, etc etc to all be free to worship as they so chose.- The world's end
Thanks for editing and adding the sources Satenza. I'm about to get off the computer so I will check them when I get back on. Absolutely false, as Satenza said America was founded as a secularist nation. Benjamin Rush "Of the Mode of Education Proper in a Republic" 1798 I proceed in the next place, to enquire, what mode of education we shall adopt so as to secure to the state all the advantages that are to be derived from the proper instruction of the youth; and here I beg leave to remark, that the only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be laid in Religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments. Such is my veneration for every religion that reveals the attributes of the Deity, or a future state of rewards and punishments, that I had rather see the opinions of Confucius or Mahomed inculcated upon our youth than tsee them grow up wholly devoid of a system of religious principles. But the religion I mean to recommend in this place is that of the New Testament. It is foreign to my purpose to hint at the arguments which establish the truth of the Christian revelation. My only business is to declare, that all its doctrines and precepts are calculated to promote the happiness of society, and the safety and well being of civil government. A Christian cannot fail of being a republican(referring to the government type, not the political party).... A Christian, I say again, cannot fail of being a republican, for every precept of the Gospel inculcates those degrees of humility, self-denial, and brotherly kindness, which are directly opposed to the pride of monarchy and the pageantry of a court. A Christian cannot fail of being useful to the Republic, for his religion teacheth him, that no man "liveth to himself." And lastly a Christian cannot fail of being wholly inoffensive, for his religion teacheth him in all things to do to others what he would wish, in like circumstances, they should do to him.- The world's end
I have no idea. That is why I want to read them from first hand material and check out those quotes to make sure they are legit since they are so completely different from what I have read from the founders. My guess is they were taken out of context. I looked up that Adams quote you put down and google didn't return any results for it hardly except some guy on another forum quoting it. All I know is I can pull out loads and loads and loads of pro Christian quotes from the founders. The Continental Congress prayed on a regular basis during the War for Independence. Most stuff I read sounds like most founders had a deep respect for Christianity and God. Of course they differed on doctrine but on the basics most seem to agree from what I have read.- The world's end
Here is a private letter from John Adams to Thomas Jefferson written in 1813. If you read carefully what he is saying he says that Christian principles played a large part in uniting the country and enabled the US to be formed in the first place and that these Christian principles are eternal just as God is. I still would like to see the source of your quotes so I can read them in context when you can get around to it also Satenza. Thanks.- The world's end
Then why are they sounding pretty Christian in my above quotes that were mostly taken from private letters?- The world's end
Where did you get your quotes Satenza? I would like to read them in full context. My guess is most of them are voicing displeasure with the strife in Europe over religion in the form of the institution of man and man hijacking it for their own ends rather than against Christianity and God in particular. Check out what the Continental Congress ordered of the Continental Army. It is impossible to say the founders of this nation were fed up with Christianity if you read their order to the army. Washington(orders to the Continental Army):The Continental Congress having ordered, Friday the 17th. Instant to be observed as a day of "fasting, humiliation and prayer, humbly to sppplicate the mercy of Almighty God, that it would please him to pardon all our manifold sins and transgressions, and to prosper the Arms of the United Colonies, and finally, establish the peace and freedom of America, upon a solid and lasting foundation" -- The General commands all officers, and soldiers, to pay strict obedience to the Orders of the Continental Congress, and by their unfeigned and pious observance of their religious duties, incline the Lord, and Giver of Victory, to prosper our arms. More quotes, excerpts and letters from the same people Jefferson(letter to Thomas Smith): ... Few words will be necessary, with good dispositions on your part. Adore God. Reverence and cherish your parents. Love your neighbor as yourself, and your country more than yourself. Be just. Be true. Murmur not at the ways of Providence. So shall the life into which you have entered, be the portal to one of eternal and ineffable bliss. And if to the dead it is permitted to care for the things of this world, every action of your life will be under my regard. Farewell. Franklin(letter to his sister Jenny): ...You express yourself as if you thought I was against Worshipping of God, and believed Good Works would merit Heaven; which are both Fancies of your own, I think, without Foundation. I am so far from thinking that God is not to be worshipped, that I have composed and wrote a whole Book of Devotions for my own Use: And I imagine there are few, if any, in the World, so weake as to imagine, that the little Good we can do here, can merit so vast a Reward hereafter. Adams(Aug. 14, 1796 Diary entry): One great advantage of the Christian religion is that it brings the great principle of the law of nature and nations- Love your neighbor as yourself, and do unto others you would that others should do to you... No other institution for education, no kind of political discipline, could diffuse this kind of necessary information, so universally among all ranks and descriptions of citizens. The duties and rights of the man and the citizen are thus taught from early infancy to every creature. Etc. etc saying good stuff the Christian religion brings to society. Washington: The man must be bad indeed who can look upon the events of the American Revolution without feeling the warmest gratitude towards the great Author of the Universe whose divine interposition was so frequently manifested in our behalf. And it is my earnest prayer that we may so conduct ourselves as to merit a continuance of those blessings with which we have hitherto been favored. Alexander Hamilton's last correspondence to his wife before he died: This is my second letter. The scruples of a Christian have determined me to expose my own life to any extent, rather than subject myself to the guilt of taking the life of another. This much increases my hazards and redoubles my pangs for you. But you had rather I should die innocent than live guilty. Heaven can preserve me, and I humbly hope will; but, in the contrary event, I charge you to remember that you are a Christian. God's will be done! The will of a merciful God must be good. Once more, Adieu, my darling, darling wife. I have loads and loads more quotes to support this position if that didn't sway your opinion... Just tired of typing for the moment.- Which side are you on? (political)
Moderate Economic Conservative (I was borderline Libertarian) You recognize the inefficiency of having the government run the economy. You also seem to think that the government can do some good in improving people's personal habits in some areas. You fit in the Reagan-Goldwater wing of the Republican party. So, you probably approve of half or so of the Republicans in office, while at other times you might prefer the Constitution Party candidate, or even the Libertarian candidate. Approximately 4% of the takers of this quiz scored in this area, 8% for all conservatives outside the centrist circle.- So, how hard is university?
Once you get into your major make some friends and study together. It makes studying waaaay more efficient. Also make some friends that are further along in the degree and get old tests the teachers gave and work them to prepare for test times. A lot of professors will give similar tests so it can really help out and you can get a feel for the style test they will give.- is it sexist...
And I find your comment amusing Indy. :D- What good things have happened to you recently?
I got 14 pull ups today which is the most I have gotten in years. Woot!- who is a good off-topicer?
Thanks warri0r. I'm like you, as long as I can talk or debate with someone and they keep all attacks aimed at the topic instead of at the person then they are OK in my book. So for all the people that fall under that category you have my thanks.- So, how hard is university?
As a side note I would like to add that I'm not saying the easy degrees are bad if that is your thing. I'm just saying they are easier than those other degrees. I majored in mechanical engineering because I wasn't sure what to major in and I forced my way through it when I would have enjoyed something like history or economics a lot more. Yes I got a harder degree but now I'm not even sure if I want to be an engineer so for me it might not have been the best degree. Even if in the long term it wasn't the best degree for me it will open doors for me that a lot of other degrees wouldn't open so when I do decide what I want to do it will be easier than if I had just gotten some dime a dozen for graduates easy degree. In the end just do what you love. If you aren't sure then just get a respectable degree that you can get a decent job with.- So, how hard is university?
If you major in psychology or communications or some of the other liberal arts degrees.... easy If you major in engineering or architecture or some of the harder sciences... tough- is it sexist...
Men don't have mammary glands so no we aren't the same and women walking around topless would increase the amount of rapes drastically. You can disagree if you want but it is reality.- My life. And why it sucks. Real bad.
Overcoming tough times in life is what makes us grow as a person. When you are in the middle of the tough times sometimes it can feel hopeless but it is actually opportunity to grow as an individual. Embrace that opportunity and use it to help you continue your journey of growing into the man you have the potential of being.- Cold war 2?
The type rockets Hezbollah fires are short range smaller rockets and don't stay airborne very long. The missile defense system is made for taking down large Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles that go into space and take half an hour or more to get to their target. The smaller amount of time the missiles are in the air that Hezbollah fires, the fact they don't go into space, and how much smaller they are makes it a lot different problem than the "missile defense shield" that was being talked about earlier.- The world's end
The Aztecs had a calendar... they did not BRING the calendar. Europe, Asia and Africa had a calendar LONG before the Aztecs came into the picture. I don't care who was president after 9/11. Blood was going to be spilled of whoever did it. People would have gone crazy if we hadn't attacked Afghanistan. Iraq might not have happened the way it did but you can bet that Afghanistan would have been invaded. Pakistan might have been attacked as well if they sheltered Al Quaida and Taliban troops without coming to the US side and helping out. When thousands of Americans die the country goes to war. That is just how this country works. It doesn't matter who is President at the time.- Cold war 2?
All the worries about nuclear fallout from blowing up a nuke en route shouldn't be worried about. The impact is going to happen in space. I know there have been tests where they did shoot down a missile with another missile. That was a couple of years ago I think so it is a work in progress but the technology is there and it will only improve. What exactly do you mean by that? To answer this you need to first know how a nuclear bomb explodes. Fission bombs are detonated by reaching critical mass in a piece of plutonium or uranium. This is accomplished by creating a perfect explosion around the ore that creates a uniform shock wave to start the chain reaction or else by a detonator that fires one piece of ore into another at very high speed. Fusion bombs are tougher to detonate and I think they require a fission blast to reach the energy requirements to start the fusion reaction. Somehow some way you have to reach critical mass to start the reaction and if a missile blows up whatever process you have to create that then the bomb won't go off. If they could design a system where it would explode if certain situations were met like an object coming within a certain range of it or something then yeah I guess you could do that but the interceptions are going to be happening in space so it would be kinda pointless. The how many simultaneous nukes could it stop is most likely a classified question. My guess is we have no idea what they already have developed. There's no telling. I know they were making some cool laser beams that could potentially shoot down stuff but I haven't kept up with it in a few years.
