  1. We should make this the Chuck Norris appreciation thread. :P Here is a fun clip of him fighting Bruce Lee in a movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBELvv3UDuk Chuck loses in the movie because its a Bruce Lee movie but he was actually the world champion in martial arts fighting sometime in the 70's if I remember correctly.
  2. Didn't we already cover this? The Bible itself condemns people that behave this way. Compare their words and actions to what the Bible actually says before you start bashing Christianity please. Anyone else notice how there are only 40 of them in a country of about 200 million and they had to withdraw to a secluded town? That'll show you how widespread their warped beliefs are so please quit with the whole "oh yeah, this is what the Bible does to people" anti Christian propaganda and just chill out. I don't actively go bashing atheists and claiming that since communist countries support atheism and ban religion and they have killed million upon millions of people that most atheists are genocidal murderers... That's the type tactic you guys want to keep trying to pull on Christians. It is getting a little irritating.
  3. You sure you don't want to rephrase this a bit? There is a time for war but to just be "pro war" is a bit odd sounding to me. Did you mean to say you are for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan? The way you phrased it sounds like you are for war anytime anywhere if the only alternative was peace.
  4. I'm actually leaning towards Ron Paul this election because I am pretty frustrated with the Republicans and the Democrats and he isn't a pawn of the party. His voting record backs up what he says he will do unlike 95% of the other candidates. I don't agree with Ron Paul on everything but at least I know what I am getting with him. Hilary, Obama, Mitt Romney, Guiliani, McCain... I don't trust the words coming out of their mouths.
  5. If I lived in Sweden I would be so angry about this. Money I worked my butt off for and had to pay in taxes to the government would go to some moron that says he can't live without metal and that it is a disability. That's not right to the entire rest of the country that doesn't make lame excuses for being a crummy irresponsible worker.
  6. Yes because the United States doesn't have EMP's, hackers, and can't shoot down satellites. I guess China's 1970 missile technology, their lack of aircraft carriers, lack of stealth aircraft, inferior electronics, and their inferior submarines spell the doom of the US because Sun Tzu wrote a strategy book 2000 years ago. I bet no one in the US military has ever read that book. Heck, let's just all just start speaking Chinese right now!
  7. *just lost some brain cells* Fire burns Earth when combined with air and a byproduct is water. But what about Earth? Earth can make nukes which can create widespread fire which can burn the air which can melt your face which leads to lower human population which means apes can take over the Earth and kidnap Charleton Heston when his spaceship goes into the future and he meets the good looking stupid woman that is a slave of the apes. Get your stinkin' paws off me you darned dirty ape! Superman flies in the air but he is vulnerable to kryptonite so does that mean kryptonite is more powerful than air? But wait! If he used his super breath to blow the kryptonite away then air is more powerful. But wait, what happens if superman flies into a fire? Does that mean his suite burns off and he can't go around rescuing people since a little kid might see him naked? Smurfs are blue and water is blue yet fire can be blue or orange which is my college's team colors. The true answer to this question is Chuck Norris is the most powerful element. Take that whoever made the anti-Chuck Norris thread! Muahahahaha!!
  8. Was Hitler a good leader for Germany? Just compare the Germany when he took over to Germany when his reign of power ended. When he took over... Germany was hurting very bad economically. When he left power... Germany was hurting very bad economically AND Germany was a pile of rubble from years of bombing, it's factories were destroyed, half of the country was in control of Stalin and remained that way for the next 50 years. The other half was in control of GB and the US. Millions of Germans were dead in a war that was lost and as icing on the cake Hitler chickened out and killed himself rather than face the consequence of his own actions. Yeah... he was a great leader... He had a few years in the early/mid thirties where he helped German interests but he squandered those gains pretty quickly.

  10. That's awesome Knightlight. How is the movement on your pitches? I had a good friend that was drafted but he hurt his elbow before he could make it to the big show. He was an 85-87 fastball guy but he always said movement counts more than velocity. I had an experience like that in high school track. My junior year I got a new coach who had been the women's NCAA National Champion in high jump. She was an incredible coach and taught me basically perfect form in about two months my best jump increased by 6 inches which is a huge gain in that event. After her coaching in two seasons of Indoor Track I only had one meet that I didn't win and I won the largest indoor meet in the nation as well. It was great fun because there would be guys that could dunk out of their minds jumping over multiple people and stuff but in a high jump event I could beat them due to my better form even though I didn't have the amount of raw natural athleticism they had. Good coaches are priceless to an athlete. I owe a huge part of the success I had in track to my coaches. No way I could have done it without them.
  11. If your job is annoying you so badly and you don't want to be around Mom's and kids why don't you just get a new job?
  12. I made good money when I was that age mowing peoples yards in our neighborhood. I would get between $20 and $50 a yard.
  13. I just don't understand this part... If you care about this girl so deeply then why would you want to give her something that is bad for her? Do you care more about how she makes you feel and her looks or do you actually care about HER?
  14. Lighten up people. She is a little girl with an amazing talent that saw some guy walk into her house once and thought his face would make a good Jesus face and so she painted a picture of what she feels Jesus would look like based off of his face. No one said "Oh yes, Jesus looks exactly like this." It's just art and a way for her to express herself. No need to start arguing that God wouldn't look exactly like this blah blah blah. Oh, so, what do you call love? QFT It doesn't, but the Bible repetitively uses the pronouns "He/His/Him". God isn't male or female. He is a spirit.
  15. Graffiti... grr... Did you not know giving out prescription drugs was wrong?
  16. He was definitely an interesting person... This gives a basic rundown on his life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcibiades
  17. Steven Pressfield has a book that covers the Sicily campaign that I read a while back which focuses on and follows the life of Alcibiades. It wasn't nearly as good as Gates of Fire about the Battle of Thermopylae that he also wrote. I would much rather have see a movie about Gates of Fire than 300.
  18. As to the original topic my scariest moment was when I was climbing on some cliffs when I was about 13 years old. A group of friends and I made it to the top of a 40 or 50 foot cliff and we were sitting at the top. I happened to sit on a batch of crumbly moss. As I made slight movements it was grinding the moss into a fine powder. Suddenly, my grip on the rock gives away and I start sliding on this moss/powder slowly to the edge. I try to put every piece of myself possible in contact with the rock to stop me but I keep sliding towards the edge. My heart was racing as I slid closer and closer to a 40 foot drop onto rocks below. One to two feet from the edge of the cliff I stopped sliding. Whew... That moment scared the crud out of me. I thought I was dead meat.
  19. I live in one of the five or ten most dangerous cities in the US. I would have no problem at all walking around in the southern and eastern portions of the city at night. There is no way in heck I would walk around the western and northern portions of the city at night. There are basically no murders in the southern and eastern parts of town. There are 100+ murders a year total in this city. I have a friend that worked as a nurse in a hospital in the western part of town and she said hearing gunshots was a regular thing. Is that just the police being unjust or maybe just maybe there is a culture problem with violence going on...
  20. Persian and Greek style of fighting was completely different. The Persians relied on Cavalry, archers, and lightly armored quick strike infantry. On an open battlefield where they could maneuver they were deadly. Their weaknesses were if their leader fled, they would all flee(ala. Alexander's victory), and if they went head to head against heavy melee troops without the ability to maneuver they were at a disadvantage. The Greeks favored heavy infantry in closed fighting formations. In a straight up battle they were deadly. Their weakness was being flanked because their formations didn't adapt well to changing directions. Two factors played a huge role in the Persian defeats in Greece. First is a tactical factor is that the two main battles fought on land against the Greeks involved terrain where maneuvering was difficult and they were forced to go head to head with tough heavily armored Greek Hoplites. The second weakness was a strategic weakness involving supplies. When the Persians invaded Greece with their massive armies the only sensible way to supply their army was by sea. If their navy lost their army automatically had to retreat because they would have no supplies without the navy. At Battle of Marathon where they were first defeated the Greeks were able to attack them near the coast before they could fully deploy in marshy ground that messed up the deployment of their cavalry. This enabled the Greeks to maximize their strengths while minimizing the Persian strengths. After Thermopylae in the second great invasion Athens won a massive naval victory over the Persian navy that severely weakened their war effort and was the main cause of their eventual defeat.
  21. I love military history. I'll just do some random posts when I feel in the mood of different blunders that were massive in the course of history. The Spanish Armada- Queen Elizabeth gets legitimized. Spain's naval power is broken. England becomes a major player on the world stage. This is the defining moment that establishes the Royal Navy's dominance on the seas that has never been broken. England continues the trend started by this battle and uses it to go on to become possibly the greatest world power of the 18th and 19th century. Spain gradually weakens over the same time until Napoleon conquers them. The defining moment that took both countries on their paths to glory and failure was the English defeating the feared Armada.

  23. I've been to China before. I saw "hair salons" with neon signs open really late at night with a lot of women standing around in them. When we were in Shanghai some Chinese woman called me at about 1 or 2 am in my hotel room and I asked our guide about it the next morning and she was like "oh, that lady of the night." It is sickening that this stuff goes on. I do question why someone would blame ourselves or other western nations like it is our fault it happens because we haven't gone to war to stop it. Don't call western nations names like they are the ones that did something wrong. The people that are wrong are the freaks that go to these prostitutes, the government officials of these countries that are paid off or allow the industry to go on and the people that run the system and kidnap the women and girls. That is who your anger should be directed at because those are the people that did something wrong.
  24. Of course the footage was real. It would be pointless if it wasn't for determining the most powerful predator.
  25. Are we allowed to post links to things like youtube? There are some great tiger vs lion(depends on which video you watch), tiger vs crocodile(tons of animals kill crocs), grizzly bear vs cougar(the cougar runs it off) type videos on there.
