That is the only thing that bothered me during this episode, Charlie could have very easily escaped. For some reason until you just said it I never considered that he knew he could make it out fine, but decided this was the way it had to happen. That's obviously why it worked out like that, I am kind of disappointed I didn't think of it. EDIT: sorry for the double post, wasn't thinking. That's how Desmond saw it in his vision though, so that's the only way Charlie thought he could save Claire probably.

We don't know whether or not it was the future, or whether that was another Desmond flash. For one, Jack's beard is gray while he is on the island, why would it go back to black in the future? Another, he mentions his dad being alive, his dad already passed. It just seems like there are too many flaws with every theory that I hear, we aren't going to know anything until next season.

I wonder if he's ever going to return to finish this...?
