  1. I'm not sure how they would modify it should somebody visit more than one convention though. I kind of feel that we are past the whole "Jagex is stupid" point and we need to figure out a way to make sure that our words actually mean anything at all. EDIT: My analogy wasn't very subtle. Kind of just slapping nametags on things. Also of course there is something larger at stake here but at the moment I'd like to keep things small and plan to work up from there.
  2. Sorry Ravian. But you know my posts will always be long. That's how I roll. I think we need a place for reasonable feedback, in which instead of a series of Qs & As are being handed out like bits of candy, an actual discussion in which people are more interested in finding a solution rather than finding a problem. Where we know that a Jagex representative is there, who is well versed in company policy and tact, and on the other end the user representative is also able to handle themselves maturely while being able to process the varied concerns in a meaningful way that does not suppress criticism, yet represents all valid viewpoints. These discussions need to occur before development starts on a concept (at this point I can say that keeping any update a surprise is quite possibly the most inefficient and fruitless endeavor) and right after anything important is announced. Would this be way too much to ask?
  3. Actually, I believe it is more shameful to pretend that things can be done without copying somebody else on purpose or by accident. People have been comparing this to other game cons regardless of the flag or not. And it IS their game. And they ARE allowed to be dumb. I would like to know the percentage of the population of RS that doesn't participate in the RSOF forums because it is a mess that cannot be salvaged, but continue to play the game, are okay with the flags, and do not care about the outcome enough either way to submit themselves to that kind of abuse in order to represent their point of view. EDIT: But why are we blaming them for being stupid? I believe that at one point, in order for them to have gained a silly notion such as this, they have probably asked actual users if they wanted it, and they said yes. If we want to extend a gnarled tree branch of trust, I think we should set a good example and behave in a civil manner when we express our concerns about their actions, rather than submit every single action to overscrutiny and end up blowing the thing out of proportion to the point where speculation threads about popular television shows look like a basket of kittens to us. But of course that will never happen. Because why should we be polite when they are not? And why should they be polite if we are not? Eh? Do you see the pointlessness being engendered here by this line of reasoning?
  4. Oh, wait, my bad. The burning hat example was from the RWT days. Hah. Sorry about that. Hold on, lemme find the one I'm using for this instance. .... .... Okay, got it. [spoiler=Silly example]Years ago, a man has become notoriously famous for a crime organization that specializes in black market trade that he has set up in your country. Trade is conducted through manipulation of your country's most popular sport at the time. His activities become so deeply entrenched in the workings of your economy that people have regularly accepted his operations as "business as usual". But the other countries are furious at his presence within your country, and claim that you are harboring him on purpose. They will place an embargo on all trade with your country, effectively strangling the life out of it, unless you agree to get rid of that man. So you do a full shakedown and effectively remove his organization, ultimately shutting the sport down. People are furious at your decision, but the situation was so bad that delaying action would have been too late. Enacting a less harsh policy would have allowed him to wiggle through your fingers, and had been previously attempted to no avail. Despite the rioting, you take a bold stance on the issue in order to make a point of how serious the issue is. And you decide not to legalize and regulate the activities due to the fact that the right of fair market is important to all of your citizens. Or at least, you think it is. You have your doubts since they allowed such activities (to the extent of participating in them) to go on largely unnoticed to the degree that got your country in trouble in the first place. You try to replace the sport with similar other activities that would be safe from outside manipulation, but it is to no avail. People are dead set on what they had before, no changes. You almost give up on putting it back altogether, wanting to sweep this ugly mess under the rug and move on. However, they will not let go of the issue. So, after years of struggle, you finally come up with a solution, that despite the fact that it will have a largely negative impact for years to come, is pretty much okay with the folks you were trying to appease. After a while, you decide to throw a festival to celebrate what looks like a revival in your country's spirits. With the modified sport in place, somewhat restored acceptance of national policy, and perhaps overly optimistic enthusiasm at the prospect of being successful once more, you feel that it would be kinda awesome. People are disappointed when they find out that it is at an inconvenient time and an inconvenient place, not to mention that you are charging admission, but since you are new at this, the costs are a bit high, and you have no idea if it will be successful at all. You regret the inability for many of your citizens to attend, but know that it would be impossible to get everybody in, and accept this fact. However, as a blind gesture of good will, you decide to give all who are able to participate some souvenirs to commemorate the occasion. By sheer coincidence, one of the souvenirs has a logo on it, that turned upside down and perhaps squinted at a bit, looks like the man you kicked out of your country years ago. So, how to save face? Now that you've gone and stepped in it....might as well go all the way. Just give the flags to everybody. They will regard them as useless, a stupid gesture to trick them, or perhaps just too little too late, but nobody will be able to say that you didn't try. Perhaps being a bit more open with your plans would have made things smoother, but you are reluctant to share your ideas after your country has become very cynical since they lost their original most popular sport.
  5. Actually, my REAL real point is that we shouldn't let our principles hold us back if it forces us to do really, really stupid things in order to maintain them. Obviously we shouldn't just dump our principles like a hat that is being dropped for the sake of being dropped, but we should also stop wearing the damn hat if it's on fire. Someday I might have a statue made of me with that burning hat but it don't do me a bit of good now, and if people think it did them good later, they're deluding themselves. Also I have no idea how to make a statue of a person wearing a burning hat look dignified.
  6. Oh, I was just referring to all those posts earlier about people not understanding/reading their post or beliefs. If you have made one, I do not recall if it is you or somebody else. It was more than one person at least. To clarify, I am not singling out anybody in particular in saying I pretty much find everybody here at fault for clinging on to that last thread of hope that things will be better. Especially me. Okay maybe I'm singling out myself. Stop picking on me, me! I have a right mind to report me for personal attack! Anyway, a general rule I like to have is that you can't hold any one person accountable for the beliefs of the entire company, even if that same person was the one that established that company belief earlier, because the company is considered a separate entity and therefore could brutally devour that individual at any given moment if they were inclined to. But know this. At a later time, when you are doing an event, and you get an item, show up on RSOF or here, and say that the whole thing was a waste of time and that the item sucked and was hardly worth getting, and you wish it were worth something and tradable like in the olden days, and that it was harder to get so that it would actually mean something, I will be right behind you, glaring over your shoulder harder than the cockatrice with the largest eyes in Gielinor. EDIT: For the less ironically inclined, that means that if this item WERE a free item, people would think it was stupid, that it was just another ploy to get people to come to their events, and that it wasn't worth their time getting it, won't get it at all, or actively protest against the event for being a cash grabbing money monger. People would set the flag down and then put a fire under it in a pathetic attempt at effigy. What if the event were free? Then they'd be accused of trying to push their product, sell out more and still make Jagex out to be "just like everybody else." See? Can't have nice things. Can't win at all. 2ND EDIT: Darn it I just gave out a free idea to protesters. I should be charging for this. Darn it me, stop selling out your beliefs.
  7. Okay, so as per your request, I have read every single post in this thread. I would have replied earlier but of course, it would not have been fair at all! Take this short moment to criticize me about posting too late after everybody's done discussing this issue to death. Go on. I can wait. You set? So, from what I'm seeing, the best way for me to approach this is to make it clear that I'm on nobody's side at all. Here goes! [spoiler=Original Post]Folks that are saying this is a bad thing. No, I don't think they meant to do a cash grab. Yes, I think it was kind of stupid to do this. No, I don't think they shouldn't have given it out anyway. I mean, somebody mentioned that they should have asked for usernames to link to tickets. Same concept, but I would force people to log in before ordering the tickets and then drop a little surprise happy box at the bank for them. That might have worked. But on the other hand, a sudden exclusive would have been equally met with opposition. So I guess no item at all then. Bringing me to my next point. RS community at large: I hate you. Seriously. You're the largest factor that's holding us all back. It's the only thing that's keeping RS the way it is now.....a bunch of diehards who think nothing should ever change, and that having everything back the way it was would be best for everybody. This is both impossible and quite possibly wrong, if the "popularity" of RS Classic is any indication. Also the notion that doing nothing counts as doing something, and doing nothing longer is the only honor in this world. What. If you want to do that don't drag everybody down with you! Why even play a multiplayer game if you just want to do nothing. Seriously. You say that's not what you wanted? Too bad. Your beliefs betray your desires. Enjoy laying in your grave that you dug. Guys who are chill with this: good for you. Also bad for you for not understanding their plight. But seriously I would stop trying to convince the other folks. Doesn't accomplish anything. Also you can pretty much ignore them. I mean, if Jagex ignores em, why not you too? With any luck they will either decide to leave or you will. Both good outcomes. In the meanwhile trying to say otherwise is like talking down a bullet which has been already fired in the hopes that putting your face in front of it and telling it why it is wrong will make it hesitate to shatter your skull. Also, Jagex is ignoring you too. Collectors: one day you will fail to have something. It will be the end of the world. That day is here. I offer my paltry condolences. These condolences will only be available for the next fifteen minutes. Anybody who reads this afterwards is hereby banned from any future enjoyment of life. Jagex: you're unflappably dumb. Why. You have your customer base down to the same blandomatic sheeple template. You know what they like. You know what they don't like. Or at least I thought you did. Don't do anything new. Ever. Just make the treadmill more pretty and keep raising the pizazz for the oldbies. Eventually they will all perish from rot or cease to move due to the fact that they've dried up into tiny shriveled husks and we can put this whole thing behind us, never look back, and move on. Small note to naysayers: yeah, I just said that you're sheeple just like the "Jagex suckups". But have you taken a good look at what you're doing? That's right. You are instinctively taking a stand against something that will no way affect you at all, for a principle that, a few hours before this occurrence, you would have derided as stupid and not worthy of "wrecking the entire game" for. You don't care about that concept at all. You are just angry at Jagex because they're idiots. This is like being angry at a brick wall for being composed of bricks. Me: why are you even writing this? Nobody's going to actually read it! Or even think it applies to them. That they're special. Ha. Just forget it. Leave this thread now. Nobody cares. People who are agreeing with me right now: cut that out! You don't want to be like me! Go back to what you were doing! TL;DR We are all stupid. Why are we doing this. Stop being stupid. *punches self out*
  8. So, am I supposed to feel bad about having fun with Dungeoneering? Cause frankly having more things that are similar to Stealing Creation beats having things similar to what you folks refer to as fun at the moment. It's like you don't like sherbet because it's similar to ice cream.
  9. Such is the way of capitalism. Since our society seems to be founded on it, it's perfectly acceptable to do anything you want as long as you justify it later with apathy and lies. It's too bad we can't actually threaten anybody with legal action like they do in real life. I think cornering the market occurs all the time regardless of the anti-trust laws, though.
  10. The way it is right now, it's intended as a playground for players to mess around with their other skills without the usual grind, rather than something that gets you money and stuff. Too bad money and stuff outrank having fun. If that sounds dumb to you (and the words "not mutually exclusive" come to mind), well, we've come to the heart of the problem that is Runescape!
  11. As for the article, it's kind of unclear how where the skill development will actually go, seeing as the whole dungeoneering content team apparently can't agree at all with what they're planning to do with it. But I remain cautiously optimistic.
  12. I, um.....I'm sorry. The DYK is like saying "Use keys to open doors!" Perhaps you should try something else like "NPC human mobs in the dungeon have the same defence values associated with the type and tier of armor they are wearing. This also applies to their weapon and attack style." or "The smuggler can give you tips on how to fight the boss once you've found it." or "Gatestones can be used to escape the boss room except for certain foes like the Icefiend." Maybe just "In dungeoneering, fires made from higher grade wood are less likely to burn fish." That one isn't immediately obvious.
  13. Yeah, I was referring to that when I was asking why they were reluctant to do it. I was thinking more about the whole "ranged armor decreases melee attack" and "mages are actually dangerous" parts. Also perhaps the part about all the other metal weapons aside from scimitars actually being useful for once. The upper regions are sort of okay though, since everybody's got really crazy toys at that point, although lately Ranged hasn't had a bone thrown to them outside of minor accessory boosts and from what it looks like, they've given them to magic too, so it might be time for a new bow of some sort.
  14. If you rely on being the first all the time rather than making a good product, you're only surviving on borrowed time until some competitor comes by with an improved version and sweeps all your customers away in a month or so. Perhaps back when they were working on this from the start, it was a unique idea, but now it's only a mere shadow of its true potential. EDIT: You know what they could take away from this though? If they actually used the information gathered from this little isolated experiment to freaking rebalance the combat triangle once and for all. I'm not even sure WHY they think doing it now would be bad. As it is, leaving it like this rather than making the changes would be worse for the future of the game. I mean, they just did constitution, right? They didn't care at all about the complaints. In the dungeon, it feels like everything has some kind of purpose. Then I head back to the surface and it's same ol Runescape.
  15. I think that's why there's disclosure before they actually release it? And that's also why they beta test it! You don't have to pay beta testers. :P I think for the most part this is why keeping company secrets is silly. Your product could be so much better if people actually wanted it before you release it. If somebody's gonna copy it they're going to copy it. You can't compete on that angle unless you stay ahead of the game rather than rely on trying to be exclusive in a world where everything gets leaked more and more often.
  16. I'm speculating you will need the set to star the quest, so it's isn't only you ;) Then you're speculating wrong, Jagex stated after Nomads Requiem they dont want to force people to play minigames they don't want to that's why only tutorial completion was needed.. having a set is a totally absurd requirement. .... Barrows isn't a minigame?
  17. Oh, so all the way over to "no regulations at all"? I think we used to be like that. Didn't something ugly happen a couple or so years back? I can't seem to put my finger on it. I'm sure it didn't affect anybody at all though.
  18. So.....in real life what are you in favor of, anyway? I hope it's not an extreme in either direction, because that's never really worked.
  19. I'd certainly hope you benefit from the dungeon rewards price adjustments! As for slayer I'm always confused as to why everybody keeps taking offense when they aren't the center of attention all the time. I could easily whine about a dozen other things that didn't happen but it's not going to help.
  20. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong. People talk about clearing a dungeon in 10 minutes; but I have never been so fast. I always solo, so that may be the reason. But ONE minute into the dungeon and they find and kill the boss? Either I am the worst Dunger in the world, or some people are exaggerating a little with their times. People in random teams are somewhat impatient, and if you team up with others with a higher level than you, the average favors their stats over yours. What is "it"? With my new understanding of the Bonecrusher I am led to believe that he is asking if the cannon's kills are affected by the Bonecrusher as well.
  21. Well it's not like anybody even bothered with tuna in F2P before this point seeing as you wanted to haul the best catches back instead of some common piece of junk. Granted it's handy when you stockpile tuna for minor things it but the stockpiling doesn't happen until it's convenient. You're guessing right, but I have no idea what would happen if you got more from some glitch.
  22. Wait, so you don't even have to pick them up? Geez that's kind of overkill. And it affects kills only? So you can't use it to crush picked up bones in your inventory en masse? Well at least you could still shoot ogres in the cage and not have to go in to get the bones. In other news: Lol, looks like we're stuck with the broken combat system.
  23. Not sure, but killing Hill Giants in the ol F2P dungeon is pretty easy so you could try that. For members, you may dive into the training camp's ogre cage in a busy world, scoop up everybody's discarded bones, and run away in the night cackling your head off. If you're gonna be doing this, I don't see why you need aggro since you're gonna have to pay attention to pick up bones anyway... The more I read this Q&A, the more mixed messages there are. Lol.
  24. Yeah, I find that when I'm not grouping, I can take my time to do stuff, and not constantly get my drops taken by selfish team members..... Plus it seems like many of them don't know how to clear some puzzles or fight some kinds of bosses effectively. I was thinking about writing an article focusing on the teaming aspect of dungeon gameplay.
  25. In general, rushing causes your base exp to get cut. Also I have noticed that when I take the time to sneak a bit of skilling while my party thinks that getting most of the kills is better for their exp (killing the monsters is important but it doesn't seem important for any particular individual to get the kills), I actually receive additional exp on top of that gained when the party has also cleared out the monsters. On the whole, instead of focusing on only rushing the rooms to get to the boss, you should figure out how to do more things like skilling and converting junk to money efficiently with less trips. Alching may seem like a waste of time to some but you can do it while moving, so why not? It's especially useful in the larger dungeons and also you don't have to keep busting a gatestone out every single time your pack fills up. This blurb in the Q&A annoys me though. I mean would it kill them to at least tell us what the factors are instead of this guesswork?
