Euthanasia is a widely debated topic, one counter-argument for what you've outlined is the currently answerless question: Would the patient, in their right, sane and logical mind still make that decision? Generally, if they are in such pain, it means they're being heavily medicated, thus their ability to lucidly form thoughts is limited at best. That's only one argument, there are many more out there, for both sides of the debate. It's such a topic that I personally think that in the case of a patient wishing for death, each case should be reviewed and assessed individually; I only believe in euthanasia in certain circumstances, of which would not be adequately delineated if a simple and outright legislature is put in place. There's a lot of gray area regarding it, in my opinion.
  2. Sorry, but I just find that sentence slightly paradoxical. Isn't what you learn in college based on the foundations of what you have learned in high school? Otherwise, what's the point of going to high school? Under that note, shouldn't the SAT [if its purpose is to measure how well you'll do in college] measure how well you can do what you've learnt in high school as well? Maths for example - the SAT tests that, and it's something you learn in high school, ergo the SAT measures what you have already learned to an extent as well.
  3. You're wondering why Wolf San is able to make such realistic images? The program plays a large part, I admit, but in terms of realism, I've seen great digital paintings come from both PSP and PS. That's the keyword though: painting. Do you know the process of painting in real life? Well it's essentially the same thing for digital images - except errors can be fixed and cleaned up much more easily digitally. You have to have a natural [or learned] aptitude for lighting, tones, proportions ... the list goes on. Basically, in a nutshell, you have to be artistically inclined in the first place. Generally speaking, these people, Wolf San for example, can draw pretty realistic and solid images in real life, on paper, as well as they can digitally. There is no instant button you can press - or even a series of buttons - that will transform a poorly drawn image into a realistic one.
  4. Just curious - I live in Australia so I'm unfamiliar with the way things are run in America, but wouldn't essay writing fall under English? Or doesn't the English course have essays as one of its requisites? I'm in Year 12 now [the last year of high school, meaning I'm essentially doing the HSC now] and in English, the ability to write essays is one of the most integral skills in the course.

That's the crux of the matter though, when you feel as if there's no way out, or nothing left for you. An important distinguishment should be drawn here, quite a few people have said "you should think of your friends and family, and what you'll do to them" but that's the thing, what you feel isn't what you think. If you feel like your friends, parents and generally everyone hates you - you're not going to be thinking very happy thoughts.

In my opinion, nothing justifies suicide, conversely though, I don't think anyone has the right to judge or tell someone else what's right or wrong. If you've never been in that person's shoes, then you can't assume you know the full details. Seeing as you'll never completely be in someone else's shoes, I don't think you can ever judge them. For instance, I'll assume [maybe dangerously so] that everyone here is a firm believer of the concept of human rights? A portion of the basis of human rights - in a very succinct and hardly comprehensive description - is that humans are allowed to exercise their rights insofar as they do not infringe upon the rights of other humans. So, from this we can gather that one's rights is in actuality a delicate balance between one's duty and rights. I believe that this conceptual balance extends into what people think and do; you can think, believe or do anything you want so long as it does not infringe upon another's ability to do the same. You might say that someone suiciding will adversely affect other's because of the fact that they love them or etc. But I think it's important to note that in most likelihood someone suiciding believes there is nothing there for them, and thus the emotional connection that other's have with them is purely unreciprocated. They didn't ask for people to feel that way about them. Just some thoughts of mine, draw your own conclusions though. [:
  8. Hahha, if you're going to add text, you need to create a neutral area in your original abstract/blend or whatever you want to call it. :P Or take into consideration possible typographical placements when your actually creating the piece, 's what I do. [:
  9. Not to be a party pooper - but the concept of just having a bunch of kids/people of different ethnicities in a group has become quite cliche in recent years. You'd want to be unique - for instance, maybe get a photo of a black dog, white cat and yellow duck [that live together 'harmoniously' - yuou know, those farm animals that have grown up together and sleep/play with eachother] and use that as an animalistic metaphor as to mankind potentiality for harmonious living.
  10. I think that would be the guitar strap. [:

I used to play it all the time, but then when I got my monitor [24"], it was too big to play it properly. Window mode doesn't work well. 1.6, that is.
  12. WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT?! Sorry, had to say that. I don't know where in Australia you live, but here I thought a substantial number of Aussies loved bball, myself included. In fact I'm in a school which is a part of the GPS [Greater Public Schools] competition, and we play against other schools on saturdays in a variety of sports - basketball being one of the favourites. Come to think of it, I played basketball Monday night, this afternoon [Wednesday] and I'm going early tomorrow morning to play with friends @ our school gym. In fact, every school I know of plays basketball. X:
  13. Haha um, personally, this is what I think would make your sig look better, but it's up to you to implement it or not. Just suggestions. [; First of all, don't shadow the text. The typography on the first one 'i can't think' without the shadows looked better. In fact, I think less use of shadows, in this case, is better. The original image without shadows was a lot less busy and imo, much smoother. [; Sometimes less is more! But it's up to you. [:
  14. remoteman: Cool D: Lovelydude: I'm guessing you're talking about the whiteness to the top right? That's the original glare on the eye, and I decided to keep it in! It was a really nice eye originally, and it was quite a high-res stock, so I couldn't help but grab it and do something :D jak722: Thanks alot, it's 'icicles' btw. [: imhomer: Gold who? The name is familiar, but I haven't been here a while and we might be talking about a different person! I felt that it encapsulated what I was going for pretty well, but then we're all entitled to differing opinions and tastes. [: Thanks for the CC! [: superdumb6: Hehe, aren't those always the best? :P Appreciate the comment! [: Good luck with your graphical adventures!
  15. What's with this underground business?
  16. Hahah, I love how it's a common misconception: "Wait - so you don't have crocodiles lounging around in your pool?" ;p I tried to go to GIU to check out your sig, but it appears the link on your sig doesn't work? :P Not much to crit on? I'll take that as a good thing. :D
  17. First and foremost, I know it can't be used on this forum - due to its size - but I just really like it so I had to share, simply put. [; Original eye stock from sxc.hu. Comments/Constructive Criticism would be appreciated.
  18. Nads, you're still here. I'm surprised! But on the critique side, a few things would have been nice, imo [; For instance, a larger version would have been better - though this may or not be the case with you - I find that small resolution images often make me think that the person who made it is trying to cover up some mistake or lack of detail etc. The typography doesn't appeal to me, I just personally think that the red text should be brighter, and the grey text just yonder plain white. [; In the end, it's really just you're own opinion, and as long as you're fine with your piece, then there's no need to conform to what I think. Booyah. [;
  19. It's been .. a year? I don't know, a long time then, since i've visited this site. That also means that i can better distinguish any difference in your ability/skill as a graphics artist or whatever you want to call it. I'd have to say, since i last saw your art, it's gotten a lot better (the last time would be somewhere around when you said something along the lines of "it looks like a dragon to me" or something to something to made.) Anyway, a few things which might help you along.. Color, the first thing i look for in an abstract work is the use of color, hopefully more then one, im not talking about a fricking rainbow, but a good dosage of color is always great, provided it adds to the piece. Color is probably one of the main (among many) factors which causes gives me a "good" or "possibly top notch artist" impression. Focal point, well, you could say you have a focal point, but a more defined one would be better, and preferably one which gets the point (if any) across. It's 1am now, and im not used to sleeping late yet (it's an art, i tell you.) so please forgive any discrepancies in my post, if any, and have a good night, afternoon or morning.
  20. *grins* Er, as already said, some bits look off, otherwise, it looks pretty alright, dont really like the text though. :P

I dunno, but maybe instead of drilling out heaps of brushed sigs in no time, you could possibly try spending all of it in just one piece, you'll probably end up feeling like you achieved something more.
  22. Ouch, that cuts deep man. Yeah, i think its windows only, i would have like, made some for you and stuff, but then, that comment up that, and im still smarting from it.
  23. Googles response! "Vector art is art calculated and drawn using vectors and curves in your computer and printer, instead of by bitmapping. Illustrator and FreeHand are popular vector art programs. Vector art is great for type since the lines stay crisp at any scale. There are no resolution problems with dots or pixels. Type and lines remain crisp not bitmapped." Basically, a vector is something that doesn't lose any quality no matter what size you make it.
  24. Wanted to see/test what was so special about fractals, so i decided - might as well make a sig out of it.. so here we are.. about the only thing that required any skill whatsoever was my minimal brushing, the rest was fractal. don't think ill be doing anymore sigs with fracs, leaves me feeling dirty - as if i didn't do it the 'right' way.. anyway, enough rambling.. its down. \/
  25. yes, your right, that IS quite a lot of gradients!
