Another Desktop Computer Topic - Build Complete! Pics etc, last posts
You'll get nowhere near the money needed for a 27-32" monitor by selling that TV. Monitors cost 2-4x the price of the same size TV usually (at least on the larger end).

when I got to view new content it says no new content found
Yes. Also, it seems if you view posts specifically, then it updates every 10-15 mins: http://forum.tip.it/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=user_activity&mid=91421&userMode=content

Andrew Gower...
You went to the wrong building then.

when I got to view new content it says no new content found
Actually this process has been run at the same time every day (3am server time) since we switched to the new forum software so I don't see how it could possibly have been faster before the downtime. It used to be "quicker" to update in phpBB because it queried the database directly for the data. IPB doesn't do that, we choose to use an engine called Sphinx (Google it) which massively speeds up any searching done on our database, at the cost of "manual" updates to keep Sphinx up to date for when IPB hits it with a query. This should hopefully be better in the next version of IPB where they've completely rewritten how they interface with Sphinx.

when I got to view new content it says no new content found
Thanks for the additional info. That explains why I had the feeling it was a little slow. Since the thought is poking my mind, is it possible to safely set the update for "View My Content" just a little quicker? Maybe 18 hours or 12 hours? Or, if the server can shrug it off, then 6 hours? Just asking, not trying to push. ;) ~D. V. "The weirdest things cross my brain..." Devnull I'd agree, for such a useful tool 24 hour updates does seem rather slow! I mean I know many users use it to keep track of their own posts and ongoing debates etc. Surely it could be substantially faster than 24 hours? I mean if content is being catalogued every 5-10mins anyway for view new content, why can't that same data inform view my content etc.? Because they're two entirely different processes. Adding new data to VNC just requires a log rotation which takes about a second to execute, updating VMC requires a full reload of all data which takes 5-10 mins and will pretty much lock up the entire forum while running.

For clarification, before someone notices and decides that it's worth opening a topic saying it's a bug, View New Content will update every 5-10 minutes with new data. Viewing your own content, or indeed other users content specifically (ie. when you click "Find My Content" rather than using the search function to do it), will update every 24 hours.

Andrew Gower...
Well feel free to post an up-to-date photo. Photos of you are hard to find and those are the only ones we have lol There's an up to date photo on our RuneFest page I believe. EDIT: Never mind, looks like we got one of Paul backstage but Andrew wasn't there.

Hdmi Cable versions?
Probably 95% of cables on the market right now will be 1.3 and will work just fine with pretty much everything. 1.4 will become more widespread as 3D devices increase, right now 3D is seen as more of a fad than anything, so who knows when that will be.

Question about Anti Aliasing
AA actually makes your GPU work quite a lot harder depending on what it's used in. In most high end games, AA will work your card quite hard, in something like RuneScape, not so much, but it can make the difference between having visible FPS lag and not having it if your card is low end.

Hard Drive Parameter exceeded??
If available to you, you could put the hard drive in another computer and find out exactly which SMART parameter is triggering the problem. The drive may not necessarily be dead, it might just be the Dell BIOS not allowing you to use it to try and prevent any further damage.

This should be sorted now and new content should be added to both View My Content & View New Content within 5 minutes.

[SOLVED] Security Error: Domain Name Mismatch
This has already been fixed, the certificates would have been safe to add an exception for.

D. V. Devnull's "IPB Restore 2011" Buglist #1
Everything is fixed except your "snapback" issue since I don't find any issue? Snapback icons appear for me on every skin, and I've double checked the images exist and aren't just cached, bear in mind they only appear when you actually quote someone, not for every quote, and have always worked that way.

We're back!
We had another backup of the forum stored too on 26th September 2011, but they most likely didn't bother with it.
-
We're back!
But if it's a singular copy they've taken then surely they only got the information at the time the backup was taken. So when you say a phpBB backup surely that only contains the emails/passwords from that point in time rather than everything from 04-09. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding what you're saying there was two databases available, one from phpBB (which would be from September 09 when we switched over to IPB if it's the version I'm thinking of, but regardless at one point from 04-09) and then one from IPB this month and that's it. Now I see what you're getting at... your question was a little ambiguous the way I read it. The phpBB backup is from approximately 2009 and would contain all usernames of users that registered 04-09, but only the passwords/emails which were set when we closed the phpBB forum in 09. The IPB backup would be the same, they would have data that was set between 6th - 10th October.
-
We're back!
The years I am quoting is what years the backups cover, not the years the backups were taken in. They had access to a phpBB backup which covered 2004/5 - 2009 and the IPB database which covers 2009-2011.
-
We're back!
It's possible they would have the phpBB copy which covers from 04/05 to 09 and then they definitely have the IPB database which covers 09 - 11 (current).

We're back!
It's impossible to know unless you could hack the hacker's computer. Hence, why it is to be assumed everything and anything on tip.it and it's databases has been compromised. This is actually true. While we know what was on the servers themselves, it's pretty much impossible for us to know exactly what was taken, and so we have to assume everything was taken. This includes: IPB Forum database - probably taken between 6th - 10th October phpBB Forum database - since we don't use this, the date it was taken is irrelevant but it likely covers most of the time phpBB was active (04-05 until we switched to IPB), however it should also be using a more complex hashing method which is more difficult for them to crack (with regards to passwords), but will still contain other information such as e-mails and registration IPs Hopefully that clears up some questions about what was taken, but as far as information goes, that's what we have, they may not have even taken all of that, we just have to assume they have. We were targetted, just like the other fansites recently, because we contain a lot of user information which they can use to try and recover RuneScape accounts, which is why we're trying to push everyone to ensure theirs is secure.

We're back!
That's what you need to do, we'll modify the announcement to make it clearer that we haven't sent the e-mails out already.

[Issue Solved] Jumping into "https" Secure Mode?
You can't steal someone's session in IPB by just stealing their cookie. It would also severly increase our CPU usage to use all HTTPS for the whole forum. Anyway, the login page (for the Tip.It Skin, not for the other skins yet) has now been fully secured. Chrome has a bug where it won't say it's secure until you restart the browser, but it is. EDIT: All skins have the fix now.
-
[Issue Solved] Jumping into "https" Secure Mode?
Our aim isn't for HTTPS to be used everywhere, just for logins. It would be unfeasible for us to make it 100% secure everywhere as there's so many externally linked images.
-
[Issue Solved] Jumping into "https" Secure Mode?
The certificate itself has always been trusted for me - it just shows the https as crossed out because "other resources are not verified". I'm on chrome 15.0.874.58. Yeah but it probably is giving you that popup because there was an element of the certificate missing and thus not loading a bunch of content. If you go to the login page now and do a hard refresh, does it still load without styles like that?
-
[Issue Solved] Jumping into "https" Secure Mode?
The actual certificate being "untrusted" should now be fixed. What version of Chrome is that?
-
[Issue Solved] Jumping into "https" Secure Mode?
In that case it's the line in the config that needs fixing. I'll turn off HTTPS login until it's fixed.
