-` Summerjob, hard, ruff and slaving? -âš´
rocketman089 replied to y0ur_m0ther's topic in Off-Topic
Well, the closest I came to what you're doing is the volunteer job I did 2 years ago. It was just doing some stuff at a nursing home for old people, play bingo with them, talk to them, serve food, that kind of stuff. It was pretty sad sometimes, as peoploe died often, and seeing the people in the alzheimer's hall was really sad. But now, I'm staving off the forces of hunger at my local Taco Bell. -

Well, you can consider my post void, perhaps the Bush quote at the end spoils it. -
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (SPOILERS WITHIN)

How about this :? . Quote there kinda explains it all, guy commited suicide after overhearing a spoiler at the mall. Here's the article: http://www.yubanet.com/artman/publish/a ... 2620.shtml -
Me and my younger brother, a few years back, were playing a version of baseball (had something to do with a slingshot, a nerf ball, and the living room) in our living room. My brother tried be real dramatic about catching one, so he ran backwards and leaped in the air to try and catch one of the balls. Well, he caught it, but he went straight through the sliding glass door in our living room, straight through it. He went to the hospital and got some staples in his head (some glass cut his scalp open) while we watched Babe and ate ice cream at my neighbor's house.

I hardly think showing pictures of the top of your head or yourself during your infancy is going to cause any problems.

Entropy is a harsh reality - Meaningless life.

I understand what you're saying, I was just saying what I believe is the alternative way to think about the end. However, about what you say there, I agree with you, but to an extent. Like I said before, whatever makes you happy, good for you, BUT, if what makes you happy means doing so at someone elses expense, I don't think that's right. You aren't the only person in the univerese that has feelings, emotions, thinks, and whatnot, so you shouldnt act like it (not saying you're like that at all). Everyone else wants to be happy too, and I think as long as whatever you want to do doesn't interfere with other people in a negative way, it's alright. -
Well, i'm generally a good kid, and it's rare (very rare) for me to get in serious trouble. Though I did have my share of problematic encounters in 8th grade. It was pretty much the beginning of 8th grade, and there was this kid in my English class that really, really pissed me off a lot. He was annoying, cocky, foul, and for some reason, all of this especially around me (and unfortunatly he rode my bus). Now, granted I was pretty small back then, but I fended for myself. About 2 months into 8th grade, I was standing in the line for lunch as usual talking to me friends, when this.. kid comes up behind me and slaps me for no apparant reason but to get a laugh from his friends sitting at a nearby table. I didn't retaliate right then, as I didn't want to get suspended for doing to him what I wanted to, but I didn't forget about it. -------------------- Well, anyway, now for what happened. You see, he also gets off at the same bustop as me, at the park near my house. The busdriver stops at the park and all the kids who get off there, stand up to get off. As I'm walking off, the kid spits on me from behind. He was already gunna get it for slapping me, but now, I was beyond furios, as I was just disrespected in from of the whole bus. So, as as he exits the bus and is about 10 feet away, I go at it. I don't remember ever being so angry in my life, and I just let him have it, and he didn't stand up to me at all. Anyway, I stopped like 20 seconds later, and he was pretty banged up. The bus driver pretty much just asked for our names and that was it. Next day, suspended from school for 5 days, but it was close to the happiest day in my life :) .

Entropy is a harsh reality - Meaningless life.

Well, it's refreshing to see something related to entropy that isn't morbidly pessimistic/depressing. It may seem all and well to believe that over millenia everyone's actions, efforts, anything, will have been done in vain and have been essentially pointless, I don't agree it's a necessarily good way to model the way you live your life by. I personally think we, humanity, still have a duty to survive, prosper, pro-create, and live on. We already know Earth is going to end somehow, whether it be a catostrophic impact from some extra-terrestial object, our own nuclear weapons, or the inevitable aging, and expanding sun. I believe that if we can keep ourselves from destroying ourselves with nuclear weapons and war, we'll eventually buckle down on the fact that earth isn't going to last forever. Well try to terraform other planets and moons. Probably Mars or Titan first. Well eventually progress to manned interstellar travel, terraform other planets/moons to suit our needs, and further spread the seed of humanity. With humanity spread across interstellar space, well have that much of a higher chance of surviving the oncoming millennia, and become something ever more advanced, or maybe even something simpler. That's just what im thinking/hoping. If we can work to keep ouselves alive, nothing will be in vain, and the only thing that will destroy ourselves is ourselves. Now, of course, billions of years from now, things will inevitably have to end. As I understand it, all the stars will burn out their hydrogen/helium cores, burn out, and the only thing that will be left is dark matter. But that is a long, long, long time from now. I don't think it's sensible for us to think ahead that far, when humanity hasn't even been around long enough to have seen 1% of earth's history (assuming you agree with general science). ---------------------------------------------- Now, of course, there are are other ways to think about what's going to happen, and that's religon. Christain faith (the only one I'm really keen on) pretty much believes everything dies and stays dead until Judgement Day. On judgement day, all the living believers will be raptured and be brought onto heaven by the call of Gabriel's Trumpet, and all the dead will be judged as to whether they gain entrance to heaven or not. For everyone else still living, they'll have 7 years to change faith before Jesus returns to earth, wherein those 7 years God will cast an amount of plagues and trials to, well, I don't know. The rest of that stuff is debatable and up to interpetation. Well, the point of that was that entropy isn't the only option for one to believe. I think religon gives people hope that their existence isn't meaningless, and nothing they do will be done in vain. Whether that's false or not, I think it's a better way to live life than to think that everything you do, everything everybody does, will eventually be pointless and meaningless. I don't really see that as being free, but if thinking that is what makes you feel a sense of freedom and happiness, well then good for you (not saying that sarcastically). -
Your knee just snapped? How about some details?

Leaked screenies of the newest Windows, codename: longhorn
rocketman089 replied to lordhathor's topic in Off-Topic
Screenshots aren't a very good basis on which to judge a new OS.. I wasn't judgeing Longhorn, Greatsilverwyrm, I was just saying it looks a lot like Windows XP, and on the site, if you look at the top, they say it "probably" is Longhorn. I'm just doubting it's authenticity. -
Uhm, whether you get a head shot or not with a plasma pistol doesn't matter does it not? Either it homes onto the target when it's charged, or it's not charged, you hit their head, it doesn't do any significant damage anyway.

rocketman089 replied to lordhathor's topic in Off-Topic
Looks snazzy, but like others have said, it doesn't look like much besides a transparent-like Windows XP theme. I doubt I'll be trading in my Windows 2000 for anything else anytime soon. -
Some Iraq photos you'll never see in the news. (Neat-0)

Sure you can do that, but at least the picture of the woman holding 2 peices of paper with writing on it looks more realistic. Anyway, I have to say those are some really, really nice pics. A few months ago I had an Army Colonel come into one of my classes, and he gave a presentation on that other facet of the war. Sad truth is, most people are pessimists and only want to hear about the bad stuff, or it's just the only thing that'll spark some interest. -
When I was 5, I was jumping around near the edge of my grandmothers bed, and there was a mirror sitting upright on the ground. Being 5, I had little coordination or judgement, and I accidently leaped off of the bed, and my head head hit the corner of the mirror, about one inch above my eye. It wasn't a serious injury, but if I landed in almost any other way, I would of lost my left eye. Plus, I have a life-long Harry-Potter-like scar in the middle of my forehead.

Idiots like you are the reason 40,000 people die in the 6,000,000 car accidents every year in the US alone

Totally not trying be a nagworm, but isn't it ASPCA? Or is that just the american title? I think that's just the American. The R stands for Royal, which USA dont have ;) I see, A for American, R for Royal, makes sense :) , thanks.

Totally not trying be a nagworm, but isn't it ASPCA? Or is that just the american title? Anyway, we use to get hedgehogs (or is it porcupines? is there a difference?) a lot in our backyard a lot when we had a fence instead of a brick wall in our backyard. Everytime they did we caught them trying to reach the cat food we had for our outdoors cat. They always ran away back into the wash anytime I got close to them.

Well, just to let people know what it is before I talk about it, machinima is a type of show/animation that acts out a story and plot through a video game recording that is dubbed over with dialogue. Anyway, I just want to see if anyone knew any good ones out there. I've only found a couple of really good ones, which are RedvsBlue (hilarious story based on Halo) and The Strangerhood (based on The Sims 2), both by Rooster Teeth Productions (http://www.roosterteeth.com/home.php). If you know any other good ones out there, or want to discuss them, please share. I've seen some other Halo based ones like Halo CE: Chronicles, but they were pretty poor.

Incredible lesson about racism, for everyone - For EVERYONE.
rocketman089 replied to lordhathor's topic in Off-Topic
It's both amazing and disturbing how one simple, reinforced idea can change the attitudes of an entire classroom of children in minutes. It's amazing how the discriminated party can so easily lose confididence and morale, do poorly on a test, and feel bad about themselves, while the other party of kids demean and insult the other kids, score higher on tests, and express superiority. What went on in that classroom, the reinforcement of discriminatory ideals, has been going on in our country for hundreds of years. If the kids can be manipulated that easily in the matter of a day, it's hard to imagine 400 years of that. ---------------------------------------- The thing is, I don't think we've done much to rid ourselves of racism/sexism today much at all. Sure, you don't really hear about any cross-burning, name calling, etc., but you see it all over tv on shows that satirize racism and use discriminatory remarks blatantly (Chapelles Show for example). You hear jokes all around school and on the internet, you may silently say to yourself or to your friend things as simple as "he jumps high because he's black" or "he's too white to dance like that". I just think racism and discrimination in society is just at a stage where it's not necesarily hate that breeds from it, but what one thinks of as just a bit of harmless prejudicism. It may seem okay because noone is getting hurt and everyone's just laughing about it, but that just makes people think it's okay. ---------------------------------------- I doubt I explained everything how I wanted it to seem like, it's one of those things i'm not sure about and it's hard to explain what I think about it. If someone has any question about what I wrote, just say so so I can explain myself more clearly. I don't want what I wrote to be misunderstood, which is likely as even I'm confused about what I wrote. -
Well, I've only been driving a short time, so there are quite a few things that make me real nervous. Though, I think my bigger ones are getting on interstate highways (some people don't want to let you in), idiots who drive, and idiots who ride bicycles. Just today, I was turning into my neighborhood, with a car parked to the left of me. I started accelerating out of the turn when two idiots jumped from behind the parked car to about 5 feet away from the front of my car, and they just stopped and laughed. It must have been 15 seconds before the idiots took off, with a lot of.. words exchanged. I might also add I got my first taste of Road Rage then too :? .

Well, my job at this moment is at Taco Bell, making tacos, burritos, etc. Not the most exciting job in the world, but a job is a job when you're sitll in high school. What I'd like to do with my life is to go into the Air Force/NASA and become a career pilot there. Then, when I'm too old to do that kind of stuff, get into the commercial airlines business. I'm pretty far from there, but in a few months I should be getting a solo license for flying Cessna 152s, and I'll be getting a regular Pilots License when I turn 17 for small, private aircraft. After that, I'm planning on going to the local university to study aeronautical engineering, or something along those lines. Of course, this is all what I'd like to do, but i'm pretty sure it's feasible.

I personally identify people as much by their signatures as their names. It adds color, originality, oppurtunity for expressiveness, and appreciation for art. I've been to forums where text only, or no signatures are allowed, and they are just bland and boring. I have no idea why anyone would think a plain text signature would be any better than a color one.
