  1. I really doubt answer 2 would fit here. I'm not too much of an expert on the laws of that time, but I'm fairly sure that if Athens was burned to the ground, Sparta could've said 'screw that debt'. Anyway, a good source for answers on these questions would be The Histories, by Herodotes. Although the explanations he gives for historical events are still mystical from time to time, he looks at every issue from more than one side and uses a lot of eye witness accounts. He is the first real historian.
  2. Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah
  3. I don't hate Limp Bizkit because of their position towards Slipknot. I hate Limp Bizkit because the music they produce is talentless and unoriginal and marketed towards the most vile kind of suburban teens. The kind that spout off about how hardcore they are while their mums drive them to concerts in their vans. They're a group of talentless hacks whose only real claim to fame is that their lead singer touched Britney Spears' left boob once, and I feel that every second I've spent listening to their music is a second wasted. Rollin' ruined The Undertaker forever. Their cover of Behind Blue Eyes was nothing short of musical butchery. They are the musical equivalent of scraping out of the bowl what remains of Korn's explosive diarrhea after they flushed, and Korn happens to be a godawful band too. ... [/rant]
  4. I really don't see why hackles have to be raised over this grieving mother. She's coping with her son's death in a way that she feels is fitting. She's hardly firebombing governement property. It's just peaceful protest that falls entirely within her constitutional rights. People might call her unpatriotic for it, but I'd say speaking her mind in this way makes her more patriotic than most Americans, whether she's right or not. She's not letting governement bullying or an imaginary terrorist threat curb her freedoms, unlike some people...
  5. It's no Reign in Blood, but it's ok I guess...
  6. Sorry, had to reread that a few times, but it seems you are serious... I think they're on an extended hiatus or something. Just search the net or Wikipedia if you want details without people laughing at your choice of music and/or words...
  7. Ancient Greece: Probably because the Spartans knew Athens would be key in the defense of the Attic territories in case of another Persian invasion. That's all I can come up with on the fly. The Early civilization and Assyrian and Persian Empire questions are a bit too complicated to answer in one line, and I've never even heard of the Ferile Crescent. The combination of floods and invaders in the question makes me think it has something to do with building their settlements on elevated areas.

  9. Oh, that reminds me, Within Temptation's cover of Running Up That Hill is great :)
  10. I can not see why I'd have to buy jewelry. Sure, it may last you forever, but so does investing it into education, something work-related, or a retiremend fund. I don't need a $200(0) watch if a $20 tells me the time too. As a student of archaeology, I don't see how buying jewelry would help me with my career, and I'm not really the type to hang out with people who judge on that sort of stuff. Very few people die with $200k in their bank as you claim. The reason I don't run out to the store and spend the money on my savings account is because I might need it some day. If I had a wife, the ring on her finger wouldn't be a symbol for how much I can afford, but for how much I love her.
  11. So far, the only movie that really made me feel like I've seen something worth the ticket when I left the theater is Over the Hedge. While the plotline is extremely simple, the execution is absolutely brilliant. The guard dog ("Play...? Play! Playplayplayplayplay!") and the skunk's makeover ("And ya don't even wanna know about the cork!") had me in stitches.
  12. Sonata Arctica - Still Loving you (Scorpions cover) Therion - Summernight City (Abba cover) Video of the Therion cover... besides being a pretty weird video, it's also a really odd interpretation of an Abba song...
  13. Amazon.com has also begun selling caskets for some reason...
  14. She probably just thinks it means no boyfriends, not no sex. Either way, she's just another attention woman-for-sale, and the more attention we give her the more active she gets :|
  15. Greetings from the Off Topic Events Team, who bring you the Last.Fm Tip.It usergroup :) At this point some of you might be wondering what Last.Fm is. Basically, it's a small piece of software that keeps track of the music you play. This data gets compiled into charts for weekly top artist, overall top artist and overall top track. These charts can be viewed on your user page. Here's mine to give you a general idea of what it looks like. Besides these amazingly nifty charts, the data is also used to bring you neighbour radio and recommendation radio through the Last.Fm music player. The former is a streaming radio station that lets you listen to the music that's popular among your musical neighbours, people who have similar taste in music, and thus the same artists topping their charts. The latter is a bit more free in its selection, but it's a great way to discover new music. If you want, you can also put together your own music station based on certain genres or requirements, such as 'female vocalists', 'folk' or 'indie rock'. Another popular feature of Last.Fm is usergroups. Last.Fm usergroups can consist of people who like the same music, go to the same school, live in the same country, or, like in this case, are members of the same online community. The data from each group member gets added up in a weekly chart for top artist and top track. The charts get neatly archived, so any change in musical taste over the months can be tracked. So why would you join? Well, first of all because it's interesting to see where your place is in the Tip.It musical demography. Weekly charts also get discussed in this topic, so it gives us something to talk about. Finally, the data gathered in this group can be used by us to bring you better, more interesting music related events :) So how would you join? First of all, you need to register on the sign up page. Then you need to download the Last.Fm player on the download page. Once the Last.Fm software is installed, all you have to do is sign in. This is done by going to the 'Users' menu and select 'Add user'. Simply enter your Last.Fm username and password and you're good to go. You can now just close Last.Fm (an icon in the system tray is all you'll see) and resume listening to your media player. Once you have everything up and running, all that's left to do is join the Tip.It group. You can do this by going to the group page and clicking 'Join Group' under the Tip.It logo. You'll then be taken to a confirmation screen where you have to click again. After that, you're part of the group and your musical data will be added to that of the rest. Once we have fifteen members, weekly group charts will start getting generated, and they'll be posted for discussion in this thread. Happy listening :^_^:

Another tag team debuted on SmackDown! tonight (although I guess it hasn't aired yet in some areas) and they've been hinting at a Sylvester Terkey + Elijah Burke tag team.

Hardy Boyz vs. London & Kendrick in a TLC match, and all is well with the world :

#-o I knew that'd have to be posted eventually...
  19. Hehe, glad you like it. Once I get done drawing the other two tilesets (underground level and castle level) and make a few more sigs with them I'll put up the .psd with the tiles...
  20. About 9, but the first serious kiss was when I was 14...

Well, with snakes being reptiles they'd be most active during the hours that the heat lamp is on...
  22. I drew on the text myself with a 2 pixel pencil. I drew the black spots on the hill as well as I could from a screenshot. I know there should be more on the larger hill, but I couldn't get it right...
  23. 1. 2 if I'm hungry. I've been blessed with a large stomach, fast metabolism, and a digestive track that happily takes anything I throw at it. That coupled with a very physical job and 120 miles a week by bicycle for years before that means that I have a BMI of <20 no matter how much saturated fat I seem to gulp down. As long as my body can take it I'll enjoy it :
  24. Haggard: The Observer Haggard: Eppur Si Muove Two songs by the German band Haggard (current lineup: 16 musicians) that uses symphonic instruments and vocals in music that combines classical elements with death metal roots. All their albums are based on late medieval history (The inquisition, Nostradamus, Galilei). The soprano in Eppur Si Muove gives me shivers : Also, their albums generally have instrumental interludes that are composed according to actual classical 'rules', such as menuetts.
