  1. I have 8 warning posts, and apparently I'm one post away from perma-b&.
  2. When you email customer support and ask to have your account locked, does it stay locked indefinitely?
  3. I recently purchased iPad 3, and to be honest I don't see the usefulness of it apart from a few things. If you need something for school, I'd suggest purchasing a laptop that is good enough for accessing the Internet and word processing. All iPads are good for is Youtube, daily planner, games, and educational apps. Other than those things, I wouldn't bother with them unless you really wanted one and had money to blow. I bought mine with the idea that it would be useful for school, and to be honest I'm a bit disappointed. I couldn't get any e-books to work on it (e-books that were accessible via browser), so I was a tad bit pissed that I couldn't even read textbooks on it in order to not have to bring all of my books with me everyday and thus take all of that weight off of my back... The people who say that tablets are amazing for everyday use are full of shit.
  4. How come only the visible spectrum is good for transferring data?
  5. The problem is FunnyJunk isn't even funny, thus invalidating your entire argument.

Eh. Spend $80-$100 and get yourself a decent printer with a scanner on it. A laptop might be useful, too. I use a laptop, desktop PC with HP PhotoSmart printer, and an iPad for school. Also, some good image-editing software might be worthwhile, although not necessarily something you'll use all the time. Personally, I'm an over-achiever, and I despise using Excel in order to create graphs. I have statistics programs, Photoshop, etc. in order to make nice graphs. Why provide something that "gets you by" when you can take pride in your work and feel good about yourself? EDIT: Oh yeah, invest in a voice recorder, preferably a digital one that can transfer recordings to your computer. Record EVERY lecture.
  7. A quick question: Can you view your own email address when logging into your Runescape account? Backstory: Got hacked not long ago, changed password via recovery. All was well for almost a week, then I got hacked again and my email was hacked too. I cannot recover my email because Microsoft has shitty customer support, so I provided Jagex with a shitton of info that I hope will lock my account, as requested. I figure if they could either bruteforce/guess recoveries, there's not much I can do to keep it secure since obviously Jagex has poor security. I cannot find a virus that could have sent my passwords to the hackers, but if you cannot even see your email while on a Runescape account, then that raises the possibility that my antivirus just sucks ass and there is a keylogger on my computer. It's absolutely ridiculous how little information is needed in order to recover an account. You can get information needed for random people on these forums by just looking at their name-change history, forum join date (to approximate when they probably started playing the game), among other things. Even if you're careful about revealing personal information (like any smart person on the internet), you're still at risk.
  8. May I have links to some good articles about the quantum mechanics stuff you just mentioned? I'm not trying to doubt what you're talking about, simply curious is all... It sounds interesting.

Your first day at college is always a little awkward. None of the freshmen really know each other (all of my buddies and people I knew from high school went to other colleges), so that's the time when you'd want to introduce yourself and meet new people. In my opinion, college is fairly laid back in a sense (you won't have daily homework assignments unlike high school), but I wouldn't put things off. Do them ASAP. Finishing a paper 1-2 weeks early is better than putting it off until the last minute. Some professors will even let you hand them your rough draft so they can quickly find some general mistakes (if you hand it to them at least a week early of course) and allow you to correct them. This has allowed me to easily ace papers in the past. Your professors won't always tell you that they allow you to do this, so it doesn't hurt to ask them. The worse they can say is no. Believe it or not, but the majority of professors aren't [wagon]. I know in high school, people like to scare you and tell you horrific tales about various professors, but this isn't exactly accurate. Oh, and if you plan to go to medical school or pharmacy school, I would strongly advise against joining frats or engaging in any activities that might potentially get you in trouble/distract you from your studies. It's honestly more important to focus on your studies, get straight As, and do everything you can do in order to get accepted into professional school. Avoid alcohol and drug use. If you get on the wrong side of the law, you might as well kiss your chance of getting into med school/pharmacy school/etc. goodbye. With that said, don't neglect friendships, just don't let them get in your way. Socialize with people in your degree field, join clubs associated with your degree field, and most important of all: Have fun. :) Good luck. EDIT: Also make strong grades during your first two semester. Your GPA later on in college can greatly depend on your performance at the beginning. Just because it's an intro course, don't blow it off. Study at least one hour every night, especially for those science courses. Oh and summer classes are bullshit.
  10. I sent a lengthy email to Jagex via that address you provided (an admin was kind enough to PM me the email address for contacting Jagex over this issue), and I gave them a detailed description of what happened. I also provided them with previous passwords that I used on the account, screen name history, my login name, where I logged out last before getting hacked, home address where I made account, my current IP address, my ISP, my date of birth (since this was asked when I signed up for the runescape account), date when I created account, original verification email address, recent activities, Runescape Bank PIN, unique items that I had in my bank (including what slot you could find these in), etc. I didn't have any receipts that I could show them. Anyway, the email gave this information and explained what happened and requested my account be locked. I hope this helps me. EDIT: I ran a full scan with my anti-virus software, and nothing other than tracking cookies were on my computer. If I got a keylogger, it would've been from some custom clients for an MMO that I play, but I'm pretty sure there aren't any keyloggers embedded into them, and the anti-virus software doesn't show any such programs on my computer, so... Due to the time between both hijackings, I suspect that I was probably bruteforced. I can't remember if you can access your Runescape account and see your email address on it or not. If so, then that's how the hacker got my email. If not, then my anti-virus software probably sucks ass.
  11. I also need help contacting Jagex over this. I need the account locked. I don't care if I can play it again. I just want my credit card information secure because the hackers were able to steal my email account.
  12. A little update. Okay, they somehow managed to get my email address, and now I can't recover my email. My RSN is Panzer Pwnzs. Feel free to try to get it locked. I'm seriously concerned because I decided not to unsubscribe because I stopped having issues.
  13. That seems a bit far away to even bother discussing it.
  14. Honestly, that's sort of impossible to avoid anyway, considering the fact that many people join these fansites around the time that they start playing the game in order to receive advice, etc. Our join dates pretty much give that information away. It's a pretty silly thing to take that sort of information with more than a grain of salt when recovering accounts. :\ @Kimberly: Thanks, I'll check that out. :)
  15. English is my native tongue (no surprise there), and I learned French throughout high school. I'm currently trying to learn it in college. I have a firmer grasp than most people do, but I am no where near fluent. I can hold basic conversations (describe mood, talk about weather, describe likes/dislikes, describe things about myself, ask questions, describe activities, give directions, etc), but when I start getting to more complex ideas/expressions, my French becomes increasingly broken as I try to transliterate from English to French. I used to know more tenses beyond le passé composé, mais j'ai oublié. When I converse with French-speakers, they usually tell me that my writing is at least decent/very good considering how long I've been trying to learn. I think they're just being nice. French is a pretty fun language (perhaps not very useful), but I have a long way to go.
  16. . This brings me to the point of this thread. As of yesterday, my account was hijacked by a Hungarian neckbeard (I have the IP address) and of course my items were gone and my screen name was changed to a Nazi-themed RSN. Personally, I don't give two shits about my character, despite my years of hard work on it and raising it to very high levels (level 133 character). I've had my good times with it and have met many friends over the years through the game. I only noticed that I was hijacked because I logged in to do the Diamond Jubilee thing for that cool crown and to say 'hi' to anyone logged on. Due to my knowledge about shitty Jagex security and the fact that if you press a 'Buy Spins' button in game, I know that some nimrod can potentially spam this button over and over and use my credit card without permission. This is what I'm concerned about, so I thought about canceling membership as well as buying the most up-to-date anti-virus software possible. To my knowledge, there are NO malicious software on my computer, no friends know my password/infos, I don't use Facebook, etc. I'm a little baffled how someone managed to get into my account (I'm guessing it was probably a bruteforce/shitty account recovery system or a combination of both). I would appreciate some detailed information about how to secure my credit card and prevent some jackass from making purchases with it. It's been so long since I played that I really don't know how to do so. Do you guys have other suggestions for what I can do in light of my current situation? Thanks. P.S. I'm using this as an opportunity to officially quit since I wasn't really playing in the first place. I was going to participate in the Combat Beta, but I guess I can't do that if I cancel my subscription.
  17. Why shouldn't society invest in education (for smart people at least)? Based on your rants about self-entitlement, it seems that you are also completely against student loans because you believe that everyone must pay out of pocket. How do you expect there to be enough doctors, lawyers, etc. if everyone must work full-time while at the same time being a full-time student (in addition to other obligations, such as a family)? For many people, especially those with lower income, it's hard enough to pay for tuition in addition to living expenses (even with financial aid). If society expects to benefit from future doctors, lawyers, etc., I do not think it is unreasonable to help finance higher education (at least for the hard-working, intelligent students).
  18. Right. Doesn't really change much. 50 gp is now 1000 gp, big deal. It's still a junk reward. Ten times the chance to win the cosmetic rewards doesn't mean much.

  21. Turn based combat would suck. However, if those icons represent different maneuvers/special moves/various attacks, each of which have various cooldowns and advantages/disadvantages, then that's fine with me. If it's what I'm thinking, then it's very similar to the combat system in another game I play, which means that this could be pretty interesting in terms of longterm effects/bug abuses. I could potentially see some interesting combat/group combat strategies arising from this, especially if it encourages combat that is highly mobile/based on deceiving others.
