  1. Lol, I quit the game, and people don't look up to me, no where close. Those who don't play anymore see me as a regular person, and those who play, if you've seen me in General P2P, hate my opinions about the game. The main one being my lack of respect for mindless clicking and wasting one's life, but that's another story. You're right. People don't often look up to others for quitting games. The only person who's really glad I pretty much quit is my gf because that means I have more time for her. Other than that, nobody else cares. I actually recommend going cold turkey and finding something else to occupy yourself (without video stimulation). That's how I got off video games and after you've gotten used to finding other things to do, video games won't be as entertaining. If this is a kid, which I'm guessing is true, maybe he could just join a sports team, though he doesn't have to. Working out is no where close to being as important for kids and teenagers as it is for adults. I mean, I havn't worked out or played a sport (except once a week indoor soccer, which ended a month+ ago) since Varsity soccer conditioning last summer-fall, and I'm in fine shape, still got my abs lol. Basically it's really not all that important for kids and teenagers to work out as much. EDIT: Guess I missed it earlier, ya, he's 15. It might not be as important for teens to work out as it is for adults, but why not get into great physical condition when that's what the opposite sex is looking for? I don't mean to be shallow or anything, but he's in high school and we all know guys want the best looking girl and visa versa. I don't play Runescape. A lot of people in Off Topic don't play Runescape. The generalization that everyone on these forums plays Runescape is getting really old. He says he doesn't enjoy going out with friends. So if he doesn't stop gaming to go out with friends then he's not going to get a balance because he won't give up the fun he's having to be with friends.
  2. HAHAHA! Suzi, that's halarious! Want to tell me what your father's response was? :P
  3. Thanks guys! I've found quite a bit of good music :
  4. I'm looking for some serious rap/hiphop. I'm looking for songs/artists that talk about more serious issues than how big their gf's butt is or how much 'ice' they have. Songs like "When I'm Gone" by Eminem. That song talks about how his career takes a serious toll on his family, not about the amazing things he can waste his money on. Anybody know some good songs/artists?
  5. I was in 5th grade when it happened. Someone mentioned it at school and the school was going to close for the day because it's near Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids and they were afraid terrorists were going to target that or the nuclear powerplant not far from here (if they hit that none of us in my area would be alive). Forunately they didn't attack anything around here but I remember watching the towers fall again and again on tv all night..
  6. Gaming when you have the extra time for it is ok as long as you've made sure you have a balance of everything else. I still game a little bit but it's maybe an hour a day if I even touch a controller.
  7. University of Iowa (UofI) Go Hawks!
  8. WHY does everyone seem to think that? No parent does that. If they do, then they're idiots. It's more like "Go to your room, no reading, no game boy, NO NOTHING". That argument is getting old and not true. If those kids are anything like me, they'll spend that time pondering over something fairly important and time will fly by. It's not difficult to entertain yourself with nothing more than what God gave you ;)
  9. I'm not sure what a switch is.. I know I got the belt when I was younger :ohnoes:
  10. You don't enjoy going out!? If I could I'd spend every living moment away from my house and with my friends  The way I balance my life... School/friends tie for first. That's what I dedicate almost all of my time to. Next up is you guys. I spend a decent amount of time on TIF/my forums because there's almost always something to talk about and really make me think. Soon a job will be taking that place however. I've almost completely cut gaming out of my life. You say you want to have free time to play Runescape and get better at it. I recommend spending less time on there. You said you're 15 so I'm going to suppose you're a freshman. You might not see a whole lot of fun in school but it seems most freshman don't. Trust me, having a good social life will benefit you through all your high school years. Going through high school with a poor social life (replaced by gaming) wouldn't be much fun. You'll benefit more from having a lot of friends than from getting level 99 in all your skills. Now I know you could care less about what I have to say about cutting down on gaming time but think of this.. In 10 years would you rather have: a) A group of close friends who you can count on for anything for years to come or B) All of your skills to level 99 on a game that may have been shut down If that's a difficult choice to make, you've got a lot of thinking to do. Edit: Heh, I usually begin to resent people who call too much. However girls are a great way to get you out of the house. My closest group of friends consists of 4 girls and 3 guys (including me). I consider the 2 guys to be my best friends (I've known them since 6th/7th grade) and the girls are definitly near being considered my best friends (one of them is my gf).
  11. :wall: You just love making my job easy don't you? *waits for resulting flames to clean* I think he has something against making mods jobs easy.. Not even joking @die: I'm going to go off of my rough translation of what you said.. "Spanking children is stupid. They won't care. They will care about time outs because they won't like to see others having fun whilst they're not included." Going off of that.. Do you remember being a child? (or possibly a few years ago in your case..) When someone puts their child in time out, they either sit there and accept their few minutes in the corner or rebel and run off as soon as they get a chance. I don't see time outs being effective because it doesn't show the child anything other than you're too lazy to find a form of punishment that is actually punishing. Now let's fast forward a few years. Say you go up to a girl and grab her chest. If she tells you to go stand in the corner, you're going to laugh. If she slaps you, you get the point and you get it quick. You know what.. I'm not going to bother going any further.. He's not going to listen/understand..
  12. There are people who believe the Holocaust was just a conspiracy. Even with all the evidence we have.. Remember, we have some people around here who can do some pretty amazing things with Photoshop. Now imagine what professionals can do.. Photos are can no longer be considered 100% accurate.
  13. Lot's of drug/alcohol problems, teenage pregnancy, disrespect for parents/authority figures.. Yeah, I'd say our generation would have benefitted from being spanked. And if this anti-spanking thing works it's way around, we're going to have even more messed up kids.
  14. mind elaborating on what you think is better? I was about to ask the same question. Time outs don't work, the child doesn't learn from having to do nothing for 5 minutes. Taking away their toys doesn't work, children have amazing imaginations and will occupy themselves in some other manor. What else are you to do with them?
  15. Yes, they are. But I believe the government was trying to somehow lessen abuse cases by passing this. They really have no other reason to pass it. The problem is, it's not going to reduce the amount of cases. It's only going to increase them. Someone spanks their child and a neighbor sees them doing it, call the cops, +1 new case that doesn't even belong there.
  16. You cant argue with a consparicy theorist. They dont weild strong, absolute facts. Its like shooting rubber. Itll just bend and come right back at you. Your at a great advantage; since its just a theory, you can bend it every which way you like, without any reprucussions. You've proven your skill at debating a topic that is vague and undefined, how bout coming to another one of the threads and debate there, and see how successful you are? I suggest he find a topic that isn't simply a theory and debate it. *points at topic about spanking children*
  17. There's quite a few nifty wepons out there. There's a show on the Discovery Channel that actually gets to go test some of them ;)
  18. *sigh* Pault.. I give up on you. You're too hard headed for my taste and you keep turning things into conspiracies. NOT EVERYTHING IN LIFE IS A CONSPIRACY! Get out of your basement and live a little..
  19. I think it's just fine. I was spanked as a child and I turned out well, didn't I? I think people are becoming too over-sensitive these days. Phycial pain as punishment has been around for forever, why is it suddenly bad? I suppose they'd tell me that 'abusing' your child by spanking them will harm their fragile mind, but I'm quite a counter example. Spanking could be defined as abuse, but why should we suddenly define it as that?
  20. The board rules do support apartness(omg I can't think of the word) a lot more than most others... and I think there are at least 4 definitions of "The Old TIF" going on in this thread :uhh: Segregation?
  21. Nope it has proven to combine many topics which could of survived as stand along threads. Have you read all 37 pages? Sub topics come and go. It would be a waste to have a thread last for a few hours and die when you can simply move on to a new sub topic when you are tired of the last. I don't think you truely understand why the relationship sticky was made.. Most people don't like a bunch of those threads floating around. They consider it annoying. If the relationship sticky is deleted, you can take full credit for all of those topics floating around.. You won't be much liked by much of the Off Topic.
  22. And everything else for that matter. Yeah.. Why do people feel the need to turn everything that is done into a conspiracy?
  23. NO! Obviously I posted them so bickering children could tell me not to feel bad that I'm an idiot for making a controversial and interesting post full of facts. A fact is the absolute truth. Example: H2O is water. That is a fact. What you're posting is what the media has told you. The media does not have to tell the absolute truth. They can twist their words..
  24. I'm suggesting a ban on conspiracy threads. They're nothing but spam and result in a lot of flaming because one person believes it's true whilst everyone else does not. That one person doesn't want to look like a fool so they continue to argue and we end up with a flame war. Simple proposal..
  25. True. The new guy usually gets picked on a decent bit before they settle in. If you really want me to comment on the facts you posted.. The facts the public get are the ones the media gives us. The media changes words so that we read things differently and the media is capable of making mistakes.
