Even many of the manipulators get burned when it comes time to dump the items back on the GE. The leaders and dishonest members, however, aren't affected negatively because they always dump early and make everyone else take the losses. If you're talking about the people who wanted houses they couldn't afford or the politicians (Congress gave itself a hefty $90,000/person bonus this year as well as the regular salary increase; not to mention that the reason people were able to get into houses they couldn't afford was because of policies forced upon the business world (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were/are required (by the government that controlled them) to have some 40% of their total net worth in sub-prime mortgages (this was started under Clinton, continued under Bush, and unlikely to change under Obama))), then I would agree. If you're talking about the businessmen, then I agree to the extent that they could have spoken up and told everyone about it before everything crashed, but I disagree with blaming only them when, in reality, the politicians are the ones ultimately respnsible.

I've argued with people who think junk trading needs to be removed without Jagex stepping in to fix prices, so I felt I needed to mention that. I'm happy to find that you are not among that group. :thumbsup: As for the inflation bit, I, personally, don't really care about inflation in RS as, with the way things work, it doesn't really affect anyone so long as they don't leave for a year or two with nothing but a pile of cash just to come back to find it's worth half as much as it was when they left. The reason for this is that, no matter how much cash is out there, you can always know that people will spend it on the same things. Yes, prices will rise, but prices rising doesn't always mean that things will become unaffordable. In fact, with the way this economy works, 'wages' (for lack of a better term) are not likely to ever fall behind inflating prices.

Either that or they'll just stop trading altogether. The existance of price caps is what allowed junk trading in the first place and their removal is likely to end it. After this happens, people will either just accept it and trade everything on the GE even if the 'street' prices are much higher/lower than the GE price or they'll just hold onto their items until enough other people trade them via the GE so that the prices get to where people want them.

There might not be a good way to ban everyone who's involved, but it would be quite simple to ban the leaders of merchant clans. All Jagex would have to do is change the rules and put out an ultimatum: "All merchant clans have x days to stop all operations. Anyone who is found leading a merchant clan after this time has passed will receive an immediate permanent ban." After Jagex has banned a few extremely wealthy merchant clan leaders (if any continue to operate, that is) to show that they're serious, I doubt anyone (with any significant stats and/or bank value) would dare try again. @ fat klutz: What you say is (mostly) true (the bit about people freaking out over a 20 gp increase is quite extreme). However, you forget that it is human nature to always want to be better than others (whether that means being richer or being 'more ethical' doesn't matter; everyone wants to have the upper hand at something). As such, what you propose will never happen without direct intervention on Jagex' part.

I will agree that PVP drops shouldn't exceed the value of lost items since this just seems cheap to me (NOTE: the PVP-trick is in no ways against the rules and I aplaud whoever started doing it first for coming up with the idea, but I don't agree with the principles behind it). However, I don't agree with what was said about junk trading. Even though it makes buying/selling certain items much harder than it should be, I do not see any alternatives to it unless Jagex starts using their so-called GE Team to (incrementally) update prices that become so far off as to cause a complete hault in trading via the GE (or possibly make the GE update more often if they also made price manipulation (think merchant clans) a bannable offence). I would also like to see the removal of price floors, ceilings and 'ties' (where one item's price is determined by the price of another item(s)), but would be satisfied if they just started doing what they said they'd do back when the GE was first implemented.

No, the aren't. They're unethical, but not illegal (if they were against the rules, all the leaders would have been banned by now and there wouldn't be any left). Also, even though I don't support merchanting clans (price manipulation really should be a bannable offence, in my opinion), i would like to state that there is a risk in joining one (or more): anyone who misses the dump time (or, I should say, doesn't dump early) is going to be left with a bunch of junk that won't sell until prices have dropped back down to, or possibly past, the price they were at when the merchant clan first started buying them. The ones who aren't taking the risks are the dishonest members who always dump early.
