March 23, 200719 yr You bring up the reason for the spelling of Mercifull (two l's) in virtually every thread I respond to in an attempt to discredit my posts and yet you conveniently seem to ignore the fact I have explained the reason publicly on these boards many times before on several occasions. Your arguments are baseless and you have to resort to pettiness to fight back a legitimate argument. Sad. LOL BAM SPELLED EXPLOSIVE AS XPLSV! LRN2SPELL. Just say that back to his face :P
March 23, 200719 yr I don't need to say it Nad, because unlike XplsvBam (Explosive Bang?) I understand that a screen name may have no meaning relating to a real word at all. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. March 23, 200719 yr I don't need to say it Nad, because unlike XplsvBam (Explosive Bang?) I understand that a screen name may have no meaning relating to a real word at all. Yeah, but he seems to not understand that.
March 23, 200719 yr He does have a TINY point. Lots of media exposure can really effect a person. For example...Me. I watch the news almost all day because most stuff on TV these days (reality tv, etc) just sucks. I notice that I am rather depressed when I do this...And if I watch the Simpsons, South Park...Whatever...I find myself to be way happier the next day. So yea...The news sucks. Hearing about our country falling apart is depressing. However, there's no reason to censor these things. I'd rather know than NOT know. That's why I watch...I like to know what Bush is screwing up this week and what they can't find the money for, but can find the money for expensive dinners and pampering for themselves. *Cough* It seems to me, though, that people who want "more censorship" are people who want things THEY find "offensive" to be censored. I would not be surprised if some of the above posters would love to see something like South Park - which happens to make me laugh - censored because they find it offensive. Which is why I said...No reason to censor more things. It'll only piss off those of us who wanna' see it. Why make the world boring, anyways? The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
March 23, 200719 yr I don't need to say it Nad, because unlike XplsvBam (Explosive Bang?) I understand that a screen name may have no meaning relating to a real word at all. March 23, 200719 yr No reason to censor more things. It'll only piss off those of us who wanna' see it. Why make the world boring, anyways? :-s . The united states has chosen to do alot of things that piss people off in the name of freedom and liberty. Emotions aren't really valid because emotions can change. Except in extreme cases. Banning south park I feel is unnecessary. I hate the show but for reasons you stated I feel that a mature person should be able to watch the show. On the other hand people who aren't capable of dealing with its attitude should not be allowed to watch it. I don't know why I'm so against bad media, I guess it is because I feel imprisoned by it. Freedom is a good thing, but some times rules give you more freedom.
March 23, 200719 yr I don't know why I'm so against bad media, I guess it is because I feel imprisoned by it. The media has the freedom to say things you don't want to hear, so you feel imprisoned by it. Do you think you'd feel more comfortable and at ease if you didn't hear such controversial things? Maybe you feel imprisoned because logic tells you some of your beliefs are wrong, and when you hear it on TV, it just makes you feel trapped inbetween beliefs you've been taught are right and what makes logical sense on the media. I'd say to try to free yourself from this cage your mind is in, but I think your mind's made its own key that you've thrown away. Freedom is a good thing, but some times rules give you more freedom. Oh, gotcha. Care to cite an instance where restrictions in life unrestrict us? Preferably not a vague cop-out answer like rules create a safe environment so we can be free and happy.
March 23, 200719 yr Bam, would you mind answering my origional question instead of skiping over it? I too would like to hear how censorship at times can = freedom. This should be interesting.

Girls in tiny bikinis on t.v. You have got to be pretty stupid to deny seeing a girl in a bikini makes you more interested. You are now imprisoned by the media's technique of lust, bravo. Btw not only lust, but belittling of women in general. Not only does bad media imprison the viewer directly but it also imprisons the object indirectly. I'm only using this as an example, don't look to deep into it. It proves my point though, media can imprison you. Edit: what was you original question? I really didn't try to ignore it, I just missed it.

As to what you just said, I don't see how being attracted to women on TV is imprisoning in any way. Nor is it imprisoning to the actors. They're making money here. There are other issues like the self esteem of girls who are watching, but it's not like we should censor them because some girls don't feel up to par with what they see on TV. So anyways, "lust" (stupid word) doesn't imprison anyone. There's nothing wrong with feeling attracted to who you see on TV, and that's in no way imprisoning. At least to normal people.

I'm going to be a little cliche here and say you don't see that it is imprisoning because you willingly allowing it. If you unwilling allow feeling attracted to someone to the point of labeling them an object you will realize how imprisoned you are. Sorry I missed your post, I can only touch on so many ideas at a time (and usually I touch on the first idea being stated). I'll try to get back to your point tomorrow.

As well as overgeneralizing. unwilling allow feeling attracted to someone to the point of labeling them an object you will realize how imprisoned you are. Attraction has nothing to do with your will. Who you're attracted to is beyond your control. That aside, I'm pretty sure I don't see women on TV as objects. You describing that as being imprisoned is just way to vague for me, I don't even know how to address it.
March 24, 200719 yr Who's imprisoned here ? The one feeling 'lust' and recognising and handling it as part of human nature. Or the one having to feel guilty of it because of his beliefs ? I know the answer to that one myself. Please don't get me started on how certain religions belittle women in general and keep them imprisoned (litterally) and have had a long history of denying them their humanitarian rights.
March 24, 200719 yr Have you ever considered simply turning OFF the TV? Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. March 24, 200719 yr Have you ever considered simply turning OFF the TV?That would affect his ability to watch tv - wants to watch it; just got be exposed to all this smut :uhh: Other channels are also an option - but that's not the point. He simply doesn't want to even run the risk of ever seeing it on any channel or whatever.

It often baffles me why people take such offence to smut or blatant sexuality when we are, in actuality, animals with a pretty high sex drive. Sure, people need to learn to respect women as more than just objects, but I don't think we should get outraged or be surprised if we do see smut on TV. Just as Hicks said, 'there are sexual thoughts, therefore there is playboy.' I would make a topic on Bill Hicks and share some Youtube vids of his killer material if these forums weren't G rated. #-o PM me if you want me to send you some links so you can see for yourself the genius that was Bill Hicks.

Thats true. Humans are one of only two species on the entire world that have sex for pure pleasure. The other...dolphins.
March 24, 200719 yr Humans are one of only two species on the entire world that have sex for pure pleasure. The other...dolphins. Thats a common misconception and a load of rubbish. March 24, 200719 yr Bonobosare pretty impressive and can be taught to communicated with humans far better than other chimps Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. March 24, 200719 yr I personally don't think there is enough censorship in the United States. Why not? What changes do you propose? Censor everything that doesn't conform to his fundamentalist christian views. OMG!!!!!! YOU RACIST BIGOT! I SICK AND TIRED OF YOU FLAMING CHRISTIANS EVERY CHANCE YOU GET!!!! WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE GET AROUND TO TELLING YOU THAT THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU! KEEP THOSE OPINIONS TO YOURSELF!!! I am sorry about that outburst but parobola and myself have been going over that for a while, and seeing him write that on a non-religous post just to start a flame war really upsets me. Anyway, back on topic. i think thet censorship shouldnt be neccassary in the US because (supposedly, according to the founding fathers) should all be able to get along in our country. Say what you mean and mean what you say because those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter.

While this topic isn't directly about religion, Tigra knows the source of a lot of the wishing for more censorship on TV. A lot of personality traits and opinions are deeply rooted in how someone was brought up religiously. It's just frustrating to him and a lot of other people how so many people form their opinions based on one book and apply it to every segment of their lives. But yeah, on your mentioning of non-censorship I agree.
March 24, 200719 yr OMG!!!!!! YOU RACIST BIGOT! Haha. I like how, when you decided to expound your ignorance, you decided to do it in nice big letters so no one will miss how you don't know what racist means. Anyway, since Xpslmabv has a habit of starting seemingly innocuous topics then swinging them around to preaching his zealous beliefs I thought I'd save him the trouble. Are you going to turn this into a flame war? I hadn't bothered to post for 5 pages but now you come along 3 days later, after plenty of discussion has gone on, to dig this up? Why? Wanting to start a flame war is the only reason I can think of.
March 24, 200719 yr no, more like i come along 3 days later and see you doing your usual "I hate all christians" thing and couldnt take it anymore. just leave your opinions on some other forum, dont turn some ones current post THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGOUN intto a flame war just over previous post he may have had. I called you racist because discrimination is discrimination no matter if its someone race or religoun. Say what you mean and mean what you say because those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter.
