March 27, 200719 yr Author May I reiterate: Vaccine is different from cure. As far as I know, you can't really cure AIDS because once you're infected, you're infected and nothing can change that. A vaccine is something you would get before you get infected and it would prevent you from becoming infected.
June 11, 200719 yr I don't think so... AIDS is a virus that is like the common cold, every time you get it it is always is different in some way, they could use something like a AIDS helper but it never takes it away, just lengeths it until the disease spreads. Basically it's take about...forever to find a new vaccine or medication to fix it. It also attacks your immune system, and that kinda busts it... so it's gonna be kinda hard to make a synthetic immune system. And I didn't make this up, and not stupid...
June 11, 200719 yr Isn't buckminsterfullerene a cure, but it's impossible to administer to people because it isn't soluble?
June 11, 200719 yr they have a cure and vaccine for alot of stuff we dont know about.,... Its all a government cover up...for reasons beyond me... If anyone found a vaccine they would disappear soon after... GOVERNMENT's out to get you! IGNORE THESE FOUR WORDS
June 11, 200719 yr But usually you don't even know you have it until a while after contracting it, while this requires you to take it right after contracting the disease, if i understand properly. Yea, it'd obviously be for, like...If you were a doctor working on an AIDS patient and cut yourself and knew you could be infected, or something. But like I said, I don't know if this stuff even exists, I've just read about something like it once. Coulda' been fake. :P Sucks for the people that contract it sexually or just don't know the person had HIV and got cut and the blood from the other person got into the wound. I heard it can take 12 years for it to even show up. Like if you get a test right after having sex, it doesn't mean that if you get negative that it is really negative. Now that sucks. SWAG Mayn U wanna be like me but U can't be me cuz U ain't got ma swagga on.

June 11, 200719 yr I did some searching and figured the place she got it from was probably a science magazine. Anyway, this quote is from Science Journal. Not to be nitpicky, but you are supposed to refer to Science as "the Journal Science" not "Science Journal". I know it sounds like just a technicality but the the Journal Science, along with its British equivalent Nature are two most prestigious magazines in the world. Only revolutionary breakthroughs are published in them, and people spend their lives trying to discover something worthy enough to be put in there. If you make the front page you are essentially guaranteed a Nobel Prize  As opposed to just saying "science journal" which could be any of a thousand journals that deal with science. but the journal actually named "Science" is so far above the rest it is referred to as a proper noun. Anyway, as for the vaccine it's a good start but the problem isn't even close to finished. First off, HIV likes to mutate, and a vaccine will only work on a certain strain so if there is a mutation (which happens every 3-4 years) you have to start back over. Secondly vaccines are not cures. Look at Malaria, it kills 3000 people a day and there are 5 drugs that act as perfect vaccines for it. However no one wants to just hand these things out for free so half of Africa is stull suffering from it. HIV vaccine will the same, a vaccine may protect Americans/Europeans but Africa will still suffer for decades until it trickles down.
June 11, 200719 yr I read in an article and most scientists working on a vaccine say a possible way for the vaccine to work is if they created a weakened virus that had three of HIV's main genes so your immune system would target it. If one of the genes in HIV mutated then your immune system would still target the virus since it has the other genes but it has gone under the radar for a while(like everything else -.-) so it may be outdated Don't Click This774th to 99 hunting on July 16th 2007
June 12, 200719 yr HIV/AIDS changes so rapidly it's impossible to create a vaccine against it. This is why you need to get a new flu shot every year, as it has changed by the time winter comes around again. And the flu changes at an immensely slower rate than HIV/AIDS.
June 12, 200719 yr there's also something called "abstinance" :D i hope the vaccine is only given to adults because aids gives teens another reason to wait until they really love someone and not just think they're hot. with aids as a threat, it may add some consideration to the decision to end abstinance. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. I own. http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun.
