Recommended levels:

80+ attack

80+ strength

80+ defence

* Introduction:

Just to start off with a small introduction about Dust Devils. These are monsters notorious for conealing the rarist peice of armour in the game

which only is avaliable from the desert, the infamous Dragon Chainmail Body. A great peice of armour with some pretty nifty stats too going little below +80 in all aspects of its defencive combat bonuses. However these monsters wont give them away easily, sure you may be lucky, walk in and get one but the chances of that are minimal so prepare to stay there for a long time.These were monsters introduced with the release of the Desert Treasure quest. They live in the Smokey well in the southern parts of the desert west of Pollivneach. These are also slayer monsters which require a level of at least 65+ to kill and contrary to popular belief this is one of the only slayer monsters whos melee attacks (crush) are actually melee, not magical based so get going to your armoury and equipt yourself with the best defences you can get, the higher the crush defence bonus (as they have no weapon) the smaller the chance of them hitting you.

Just as a note before I begin this guide is for camping using mainly melee, but mage and range also.

* Equipment & Recommended Items:

As I said in the paragraph above you will definatly want to camp there if going for a Dragon Chain. Meleeing would be your best option if you are in the mood to cut down as much time as possible but if you are there for skilling or leveling up your magic or range you can as there are a number of safe spots but it would take a heck of a longer time to get those red pixels you seek. I will in order of Melee, Magic then Range describe the items you should take and the armour you should wear for effective camping.

Bones to Peaches spell is a must. If you do not have this there is no point in going, you will be getting up and banking every half and hour to an hour wasting alot of time and money. One cast turns all bones which you have picked up, be it 2 or 20 will all turn into peaches which heal 8 with the same rune drain so make sure you have a good number in your inventory at the tie. If you do not have it, get it, Mage Training Arena reward, you need a certain amount of magic points in each of the arenas, trust me its worth it and without it you will get yourself nowhere very slowly.

-> Remember to wear a facemask. If you get to the well and dont have one you wont be granted access and if you do but take it off down there for any reason you will be hit the ocasional 20 just being down there and 15 every time a Dust Devil hits you, not pleasant so take that precaution! If you die which you would not only would you look like an utter [bleep] in front of alot of people but you would also loose your items ... no pressure wink

Melee:

This is very dependant on your stats, the higher the better really and as you get higher the better armour you can wear and ultimatly the less they will hit you. A few answers first, I would not recommend taking Barrows Armour or weapons as after 15 hours you will be spending 60K+ but if you feel you are rich enough or you will get enough decent drops to compensate for the cash needed in the 15 hours by all means go ahead.

These images are imposed but are just guidelines.

dustiesmeleecp6.png

Remember dont change the face mask! The Fire Cape can be for Legends/Obsidian, Fury Amulet for Glory/Strength, Rune Plate for Barrows but not advised, Dragon Legs for Rune Legs/Barrows but not advised, Whip for Scimitar if you want to train strength, Ring of Wealth for a Warrior/Beserker which is up to you and Barrows Gloves for Dragon or Rune. Leave the Rune Boots and Obsidian Shield. The combination of Rune Boots and Obsidian Sheild against Dragon Square/Rune Defender and Climbing boots is that Obsidian gives just about the same defence as DSq and same Strength as Defender and more than Climbing Boots and the defence of the Rune Boots is better.

* Inventory

As for your inventory I would suggest you take around 1000gp for carpet rides and Shanty Passes, an alternative weapon, a Mud Staff as it takes less space and counts as Earth and Water runes for Bones to Peaches or 800 of each rune, 200 Natures, and around 20 fish/food then withdraw some fish that is easily replaced like trout or salmon so you have a full inventory.

inventoryns1.png

Magician:

A gentle reminder, remember to wear a facemask or you will look like an idiot. This case the higher the defence the better as robes are pretty gentle to the touch, but if it gets hit you will get hurt, simple as that. Again you could use Ahrims but it still degrades if you are the one attacking even the armour so again its not advised but you may if you wish! As these monsters are fire orientated it would be wise to consider some sort of water spell, wave if you can afford the blood runes, blast would be best as they are craftable and cheaper, chaos also suggested as they are an occasional drop but if you really are struggling it would have to be strike.

mageoutfitap4.png

*Note-3rd age amulet is the best magic bonus you can get, but is a bit risky when fighting dust devils.

Once again the Fire Cape could be changed for Lunar or Legends, Fury Amulet once again for Glory or Lunar/Magic, the Enchanted Top for any other magical robe, same for the bottoms, the Air Staff for another magical stick depending if you want the free runes or the autocast, Barrows Gloves or Mystical, Infinity Boots for Mystic or Magic Boots, the Zamorak Book or perhaps the Mages book if you are rich enough and the Ring of Wealth for maybe the Seers ring or Lunar once again.

Depending how well you can attract monsters attention without being hit you may want Bones to Peaches or maybe just 10-15 decent foods. Other than that 1000gp for Carpet Fares, Waters, Earths/Mud Staff plus Natures if you are casting Bones to Peaches but not necessary, runes to cast the spell you desire, runes to Telecenetic Grab if you are lazy and lastly around 10 sharks/tuna&sweetcorn potatoes.

Ranger:

More subliminal messaging; wear a facemask at all times or you will look like an absolute tosser when you cant figure out why you are dieing! As rangers have more of a defence against melee attacks and dragonhide tends to have a rather good crush bonus this would be good for training your range. Karils XBow would be good for its speed and power but it degrades but also once you use up te expensive ammo you have lost it, no getting back so once again Barrows is an unadvised option.

rangingoutfitus2.png

Facemask should stay on all times so lets move on, the Fire Cape could be changed to Obsidian/Legends, the Amulet into Accuracy or Glory, Dragonhide Body perhaps into Snakhide or lower colours, same with the Legs, the Mage Shortbow into Crystal if you are down to cheap recharges, Barrows Gloves into Dragonhide Vambraces, Ranger Boots into Snakeskin and the Ring of Wealth into an Archer Ring if you have the money. Rune Arrows are up to you but as Dust Devils drop around 12 on recouring occasions it may be a good idea to do so!

In your inventory, it should look similar to the mages; 1000gp, possibly runes for Bones to Peaches (Earth and Water/Mud Staff and Natures), another bow if you wish and perhaps and extra set of arrows. Other than that 10-15 food should set you off.

* Dust Devils:

Here is some basic information about Dust Devils to help you when camping in the Smokey Well.

Their style base of attack is melee so normal armour will do, not magic resistant items required. You need a Facemask if you havent already been stressed to enough to know you should always wear one 24/7. They are not aggressive so trying to attract their attention can be slightly easier if you are ranging and maging and the area is single combat. It doesnt back down when getting to low health and the smoke it blows at you isnt poisonous. The only quest you need to have done is Desert Treasure which in fact you only need to get to the chapter with the mirrors.

* Avaliable Items:

* Bones (keep for BtP)

* Coins: 15-300 (keep)

* Steel Axe (leave)

* Mithril Bar (leave)

* Uncut Gems (leave)

* Ugthanki Kebabs: 1-2 (eat when needed)

* Fire Runes: 15-150 (keep)

* Rune Arrows: 12 (keep in arrow slot)

* Chaos Runes: 2-5 (keep)

* Soul Runes: 1-5 (keep)

* Rune Dagger (high alch.)

* Nature Talisman (leave)

* Earth BattleStaff (high alch.)

* Fire BattleStaff (high alch.)

* Red Dragon Vambraces (high alch.)

* Rune Spear (high alch.)

* Rune Javalins: 5 (leave)

* Half Key: Loop/Teeth (keep)

* Dragon Spear (keep)

* Dragon Left Half (keep)

* Dragon Chainmail Body (keep)

In the end you will only have to carry very small amounts of items as most are stackable like the runes/cash, you will not get many rares to hold anyway, some you eat and most you should High Alchemy with the fire runes which are dopped and using some of the spare Natures you have with you!

* How to get there:

dustdevilroutedm2.png

To get there start off at shanty Pass, suit up and properly equip yourself with the set you wish to take be it Melee, Magic or Range. Buy a Shanty Pass and take off your weapon which you are holding in your hand and go through the gate, quicky drop the Disclaimer and ask the Carpet Man to fly to Pollivneach! Once there the desert effect should not take effect. Walk through the town until you get to the camel pen south of the mountain side. Turn run on and run round the cliff egde towards the Well and climb down. Do your camping until you are full on items. Look above for items to keep but it depends what you are doing and for how long you plan to stay.

When you are full or you have run out of runes come back to the rope which gave you access with run on, climb up and run to the southern tip of the town. You should see another carpet merchant who is the second Hub Station (meaning he will send you to another 3 places! Choose Nardah and bank in there, restock and then move up the main street to the north of the town, there is a shrine which you can not only recharge prayer but increase your HP by around 10! Heal on it and run to the Carpet, fly back to Pollivneach and run to the well all in one motion. You WILL get hit by the Desert Sun but dont worry, as your HP is higher you will retain most of your HP with little loss if any!

* Smokey Well Map:

smokeywellri5.png

When Training its best to find a group of Dusties and stay there, I have outlined faintly in Cyan where my favourite training spots are and I reccommend you use them even if there are two as once you have killed the second the first has respawned, they are reletivly quick!

* safe spots

safespotszd8.png

These are some quick safe spots for rangers/hally

* FAQ's:

Q: How much do peaches heal?

A: 8!

Q: What are the Dust Devils' max hit?

A: 9!

Q: Are there any Range/Mage/Hally SAFE spots?

A: Yes! Its all a question of looking where there is a right angle. Run along the edge and then run around the corner and start shooting! There are usually other people to help if you cant find them.

Q: Can I use Guthans down there to heal?

A: Yes! How you might ask? You need a Facemask but as I said earlier occasionally meaning 1 every 10-20 seconds. You may ask now, but the Dust Devils hit 15 on you though! But there are Fire Giants and Elementals. Fire elementals are best as they are quick and easy to kill, just slip on full Guthans, heal on them and then quickly put on your Facemask. Dont do this if you have a laggy computer but its the only expensive and risky alternative to Bones to Peaches ...

Thats it really, sit tight and start popping the big bags of blowing smoke! If there are still any questions you wish to ask or any improvements you suggest to this guide please feel free to post or contact me on here or in game and I will be willing to help and update this!

Well, thats my way of doing it, I find its pretty effective and you dont need a mud staff, just take an earth staff and some waters instead ... or mud runes it doesnt matter =)

plz post ur questions and ill respond thx!

Pretty good guide 8-)

Although it could be a bit longer

you could ad thing such as next best suit

Also ahrims would be better for mage suit

he mentioned ahrims...

Surely an Accumulator would be a better cape for ranged and a God cape a better cape for Magic

It looks great buddy, love the pictures and the informative information, but you need to add a few things, like:

1) Where are the range and mage safespots?

2) Where to go if someones in your spot?

O:)

hows the weather up there. where the rich people live. currently, in the poor area its -1.

Overall pretty good guide. I just have one thing.... make the main points stand out by making them bold or a different color. Other than that very good guide.

Wow I'm stupid. I completely skipped a couple of lines :oops:

Also Third Age Amulet is beter than a fury/mage/glory ammy. Although just about nobody has i would still add it.

If i accidentally skipped more lines please tell me. I'm really tired today.

Perhaps put the suggested lvls (i.e. 70 atk, 70 ranged, 60 mage, etc.) so ppl can know whether they stand a chance in there.

Other than that, very good guide, nice layout, good grammar and spelling, complete coverage of topic. 9/10.

perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another

AMEN!

Even so you should really put it in for those who have alot of cash.

If you want it to be the best you have to put almost every little detail in it. Even if it is a thing that costs 20M+.

Check out my PC Guide and look at the third age items I suggest in there *points to siggy*

And if you do plz rate it ::'

P.S. If you want you could take the pic of my "Best Suit" for magic in my guide to have the pic of the Amulet.
