A very, very good topic mate, a lot of great songs there. I appreciate that you have provided links to each one.

I have some ideas myself.

Here it Goes Again - Ok Go

It may not be a classic, but who hasn't heard this 20 times?

Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles Honestly, any of the Beatle's songs would fit but this one really stands out amongst most of theres. Vey Popular.

A classic among many others by the Doors. One of the best and most memorable.

To me, every pink floyd is a classic and is worthy of this list, but it seems that this song is the one people most commonly know.

Paul McCartney & The Wings - Band On The Run "Searching everyooooooone for the band on run!" Need I say more?

Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze Arguably Jimi's most popularized song.

Journey - Don't Stop Believing You must be living under a rock if you don't know this song. :P

A real classic. I've known this for the longest time and it is definatly one of the best Kansas songs out there. I would suggest Dust In The Wind, but this is much more popularized.

I'm A Believer - The Monkees It seems like you here this everywhere you go. For good reason though, this is a classic!

If you want to count theme songs...

Star Wars Theme - Jonh Williams

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

Thanks for the cooperation mate, as I see, I have lived under a rock many many time... By the way, I'm a believer is a very popular song that will be added. I think that is better that I don't put in theme songs because it will be fun with themes like 007 or the star wars' imperial march :P

Yeah, but the idea is not to fill the list with beatle's music. So we need just one or two.

Elton John - Candle in the Wind

2nd best selling single EVER in the entire world with over 37 million sold. Not a fan of the song myself but you cant dispute those figures. It reached #1 in virtually every country it charted in.

I know you may not like rap, but I think "Lose Yourself" by Eminem should be up there. It is the most famous song by the best selling rapper ever. I like the list you have btw.

"Nobody cheers for Goliath"

~Wilt Chamberlain~

Phantom of the Opera - http://youtube.com/watch?v=MmI9gAyNPyE

just a very famous peace seen through out all culture, and even made into a movie. This play popularized, and repopularized classical plays. I saw it recently myself, and very good play. All generations would enjoy it.

Fur Elise - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD3HprWM96A

If you are going to include classical music this has to be in the mix for sure. One of the most recognizable classical songs ever.

Just because you guys love Bob Dylon and Beatle (me too), doesn't mean you have to put every one of their songs you like. They aren't all that famous. I feel like the thread is just going to get swamped with people's fav songs by the famous artist. I think we should focus on the major songs, that changed music and were extremely popular. I.E. Here Comes the Sun, good song but comon in the world? Sgt. Peppers is a better example of a beatle's song that should be included in the list. It was the pivotal song that moved the beatles from the pop to rock and everyone heard of it.

I am going to EDIT this post to add some more

REM - Loosing my Religion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NQeSIkw3X0

The first popular alt rock band, their most popular song.

Pixies - Where is my mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAT48J097nA

Another popular band, popularized with their low chorus. Influenced Kurt Cobain a lot. Fight Club Song!!!

Nirvana - Teen Spirit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPQR-OsH0RQ

maybe too famous lol

Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxNX_PRqhCQ

Maybe you can argue about this on, but I feel Smashing Pumpkins deserve to be on the list, maybe not with this one but its their famous one.

Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8L18NNk ... ed&search=

probably the most famous punk rockers, and this is their most popular song. Once again, very arguable, not many people know it, but people have heard of it once or twice.

Just a note, you mixed up the links for Chariots of Fire and Bach's Toccata and Fugue.

Anyway,

Moonlight Sonata, Mvt. 1 by Beethoven

Possibly my favourite classical piece of music, or at least in my top 5. I understand that you already have two works of Beethoven up, so I'll understand if you don't put it in, but I think it deserves to be put up there.

You may want to find a better video though..

In the Hall of the Mountain King from the Peer Gynt Suite by Grieg

The people in the orchestra look funny, and the recording doesn't show the true brilliance of the fortissimo section of the piece, but that's not the point.

Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison

Roy Orbison doesn't, or at least shouldn't need an introduction.

The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel

In my opinion, this song is actually better as it is here than it is on other recordings, where they have drums and bass as well.

But even if you don't include this song, you seriously need a Simon and Garfunkel song.

That's about all I could think of. And, I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I think people are overemphasising the influence the Beatles had. I'm not saying they don't need to be included, but people are saying that we need to put 5 of their songs up there or whatever. Just seems like a bit of overkill.

Cool.

well bohemian rhapsody would be my pick i love that song so much

Thanks people for the above posts, I totally forgot to put in incredible piezes like the moonlight sonata or fÃÆÃâÃâür elise! I will put 'em right now, among with other songs suggested.

Enter Sandman need to be on the list.

The best advice in life is to take your time and don't live too fast.

I've heard like 3 songs on there lol. I think We Are the Champions by Queen almost if not just as famous as We Will Rock You. Bohemian Rhapsody is pretty famous too, I think?

MY FAVORITE BAND:

And the bible is the big book of lies, call me a racist if you must.

What about songs like Imagine by John Lennon? That song is awesome!!!11!!!1!!

'Atomic Dog' by George Clinton. We've all heard this or samples of it.

I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.

Svirnsigscore.gif

And it's a bit much of the same. I mean, you're not going to make a list about the worlds greaest, and put in 20 dylan and 20 beatles songs. Just choose, keep it fun.

But that's the thing, those are my type of music that I listen to. But you can't really cut out 90% of the songs just because one band/musician wrote all of them.

@how2pk

Your right in the fact that rap music should be added to the list despite the authors opinions. (And it always maks me laugh that you have a Bob Dylan avatar  8-) )

And this topic is oooolllllllldddd  .
