why secure passwords are important

Oh, I think you're quite mistaken. Most people don't realize the importance of good passwords, and even if they do, have no real understanding of what makes a good password.

I have some good information on my site about this:

- Problems with Easily Guessed Passwords and Poor Password Management.

- How to Choose a Good, Strong Password.

Ahem, my link, again. Because Yahoo is trustworthy, and they've got a link, within one of the articles that there is a link to within this one URL, for a password strength tester.

And, don't change your password too often, otherewise you'll make it too simple and you'll forget the strong one. Believe me, I've got 2 or 3 strong passwords in order to swap them out every once in a while, just so that i can say that i've done so, but that my account is still secure. I used to have a 24 digit password, but I kept messing it up all the time. Right now, I stick to around 18 digits, with a lotta numbers and symbols.

Try to use that as your standard.

A little known fact.

A lot of applications only register and check the first 8 or 12 digits of a password, so the length of the password is usually irrelevent. So if your password is say, "password 123rthgykmnf" you might think it was safe but the chances are that only the word password will be checked by the application.

I use different passwords on different sites for this reason. My runescape password changes every 3 or 4 months and tend to be 16-20 charecters long. The trick is not needcing to write it down to rember it :D . And dont make it anything that would show up in a dictionary or name dictionary, cause thats just making it easy. Numbers and letter ftw!

Now let's say you can get the "hacker" software for free...

That's ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã275 - 375 prophit.

lol because any "hacking" software exists?.. nobody gets HACKED. people are just idiots who reveal their passwords. unless of course you`re talking about keyloggers.. then the idiots are stupid enough to give out their msn name or something and actually OPEN one. (someone tried that with me and I laughed..)

Exactly what I was trying to say, but in blunter form. :)

Even with keylogger it's still, as I said in attempt to cover all options in one statement, just people falling from columns of their own stupidity. Typically keyloggers are placed inside programs claiming to be hacks and such. To be honest, I quite like that notion. It ensures only people trying to [bleep] up the game themselves get [bleep]ed up. :D

Yup.

RS self-management?

Taking care of those that would cheat, by using go arounds?

Anyways, if those ppl weren't that stupid, it wouldn't happen.

Just to say, you're computer can upload keyloggers without you being aware of it, or actively doing anything (aside from being on a suspicious{read porn/game cheating) site-in fact i've had various different pieces of garbish uploaded onto my computer without my acceptance/knowledge from sites you would imagine are secure-like yahoo for example :P). My password for runescape is unguessable, noone will ever GUESS it, and its not even alpha-numeric its purely alphabetical. I sure hope noone takes my asertion that my pass can't be guessed as a challenge :-w
