Poll - How Much do you know about Communicable Diseases

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, this is for my health class. It would be great if you took the time to post ONE choice for each question.

1. If you got flu-like symptoms, what would you ask for from your doctor?

A. medications to treat the symptoms

B. antibiotics

C. nothing

2. If your doctor gave you antibiotics, how would you take them?

A. until symptoms go away

B. whenever I remember

C. until the symptoms go away, then a few more days

D. I take the entire prescribed amount

3. If you don't finish your prescription medication, what do you do with it?

A. throw it away

B. keep it, but never use it.

C. keep it. Whenever I feel bad, I'll take some before I go to the doctor.

Thanks!

Once again there are no demographic questions. This survey is useless as you have no way of being able to distinguish age, sex, education level etc. Not to mention that question one is flawed and doesn't take into account other options. When I go to see a doctor i don't know what's wrong with me so i'm in no position to ask the doctor for anything and I don't know what's up.

The whole point in this is to gain an understanding of how much people actually know about such things. One of my good friend's father is a doctor; one of his biggest complaints is how his patients request certain medications before they know what they have. So it does happen.

maybe A for last one, I don't usualy mess around with meds, but I'd probably keep even if I will never use just because i don't like throwing things away.

The correct option for question 3 seems to have been omitted. You should give all unused medicines back to the pharmacist. (Unless they're those fantastically strong pain killers, in which case I suggest saving them for a rainy day.)

Would you not want to keep the medication (Which comes with a prescription right? so both? I never need meds so i dont know) so that if you have the same symptoms again and it's a different doctor, you can say "I had these things last time".

I'll give someone a cookie as to why they should take all their prescribed meds.

To finish killing the infection so that the antibodies don't stop working and allow the infection to spread again. Just because the symptoms are gone doesn't mean you're good to go ;)

Also, I think they keep the presciptions you've taken on your medical record so they can look it up if you come down with the same thing again.

if you have the same symptoms again and it's a different doctor, you can say "I had these things last time".

No need. It's all stored on your medical records. (Oops, as Ryan has already said)

Ah ic.

well what would be the use of giving back the meds then? I would hope that they would not use them again. do they dispose of them in a certain way?

It's not going to help you, since my methods are obviously too intelligent or too eccentric to be listed.

1. If you got flu-like symptoms, what would you ask for from your doctor?

A. medications to treat the symptoms

B. antibiotics

C. nothing

D: I would take a bath because heat is known to kill viruses at the beggining of their developpment, I would also drink acid things, because acidity kills the flu that dwells in the throat.

2. If your doctor gave you antibiotics, how would you take them?

A. until symptoms go away

B. whenever I remember

C. until the symptoms go away, then a few more days

D. I take the entire prescribed amount

E: I would NOT take them, because they lower your natural immune defences.

3. If you don't finish your prescription medication, what do you do with it?

A. throw it away

B. keep it, but never use it.

C. keep it. Whenever I feel bad, I'll take some before I go to the doctor.

Well that wouldn't work. The virus is inside your body, your body works hard to keep the inside temperature constant so that almost certainly wont work. Plus any acid strong enough to break down your cells and reach the virus would be too dangerous for you to drink.

No they don't. They kill off micro organisms which do not have immunity to them, this means that should the virus have immunity, it will thrive. Thus the current problems with C-Diff and MRSA. However the prescribed antibiotics would almost certainly destroy the infection so your actual best bet is to follow the entire course of medication.
