Rebdragon
I read about that in the newspaper last week. It's hilarious  . And for anyone who's reading it, yes, I live in Cincinnati. I may go see it for kicks :-k . [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. Harrington
Is it true what i've been reading, that certain nut cases in Amercian are trying to force Congress to abandon Darwinian teachings and teach Creationalism instead? That's criminal if it's true... and judging from that story, I wouldn't be surprised if it's true :wall: :wall: :wall:

Wow thank God you're not a Supreme Court Judge. Its just another theory, what's the big deal? Though I believe personally it should be explained in Science Class clearly that their is other theories out there and that the Big Bang and evolution is in no way factual. {waits for Warri0r to come and convert me :P } Though following on from that it should be best dealt with and further looked into in a Religion class. Theory? A theory requires at least some working evidence... this of course has none whatsoever. And it's hardly harmless if kids across the entire county are deliberately being taught something that's completely and funamentally false. That absolutely IS criminal. Still haven't answered my question though...

Ok, Conversion time. :P (In case you can't tell by now, I'm not trying to convert anyone) Yes, evolution does have a factual basis although I'm not going to judge the big bang theory - my knowlege is lacking there. The idea that organisms evolve is a fact. Trust me (if you want an explanation, feel free to PM me). And it's a big deal because if a sound scientific theory such as evolution gets overturned by belief, it sets a truly disturbing precedent. Just the way I feel about it. Also, creationism isn't a scientific theory nor is it truly scientific. For reasons, see the quote below. On a side note, apologies for opening a thread on this topic just a little while ago, totally my own ignorance. Edit: The thread I recently made was locked. Again, sorry for that. Anyway I made a few points on why I think this is makes a mockery of true science - Here's why creationism is not science. 1) Creationism starts with a conclusion and cherry picks nature to find aspects of it which coincide with it and use them to attest to the real scientific value of the myth. Real science involves an observation, a hypothesis regarding why the observed phenomenon happens, a series of tests to attest to the hypothesis and a conglomeration of natural evidence which attests to it. Only then is a conclusion on whether the hypothesis is rejected or kept made. 2) Creationism gives nothing to the broader scientific community. Very little, if any, creation science has been submitted to a formal peer review process to weed out the weak points. It therefore has no credibility among the broader scientific community. If they wanted true science to back up thier beliefs, they'd actually let it be scruitinised. 3) Science is not about presenting alternative views to appease people with beliefs. If a theory is well accepted, there is no need to show the other side of the story in a scientific realm because there is no other side to the story in a scientific realm! Otherwise the original theory wouldn't be so sound. There are certain phenomena which garner different views or theories of varying accuracy but I can assure you the origin of species is not one of them. 4) Science strictly deals with the natural world only i.e. what we can measure and observe. The idea that supernatural occurances are being treated as science is yet another mockery and misuse of science. I know in the big scheme of things this museum won't make a dent in science whatsoever but I think some of you can tell the issue of creation museums and teaching creation in science classes is still something that concerns me. To stress once more, I don't care that people believe creation. It's them passing it off as scientifically sound that bothers me.
Kwisatz
I hate this kinda stuff. People from both camps make me so mad it's not funny. The people that spout crap about being atheist because religion is "fiction, a joke," and so forth who know nothing about creationism or the bible. The pushy ultra-conservative Christians who hate people on the basis of an ancient text. The people who hate Church because they had to attend Sunday school. The people who endlessly harass others about converting and "seeing the truth," then commit some immorality and say "Oops, I'm human" as an excuse. Know what? I don't care about the museum. People that think children will be affected by it fail to realize that it is a parents' job to filter these kinds of things out for their kids. We as a nation should not have to constantly police our youth into utter complacency - raising children is the responsibility of a guardian, unless you all want an Orwellian state. So who cares? Let them build the museum. If you don't like it then don't go to see it. And I'll eat my shoe once somebody can give me SOLID EVIDENCE that the Earth was or wasn't created by God, or that there isn't a flying spaghetti monster. Or that we landed on the moon for real. handed me TWO tissues to clear up. I was like "i'm going to need a few more paper towels than that luv"
