Fresi
yep, its because if jagex would make it not against the rules they would lose their biggset income: the power hungry mid level 8 year olds ( i don't say all 8 year olds are power hungry stupids, just a example). Thoug i would say let the scamming begin so that the noobs would stop playing and cry to their mommy's well then i have to say something making you go to ur Mommy and cry out! the way u just told that makes u look as ur 5 year old and i may point out that not only low lvls are beeing scammed! iw been scammed and i promise you i'm not 8 tear old! (18+) if your gonna judge people by age then i think its OK for the next 100 ear old person whit a shotgun to shut you! (think about that) i don't believe i see so much positiveness to scamming on this tread. iw so far seen players putting others in categories of: age, stupidity and foolishness. so shall we all go onto the rants forum and tell the players that has been scammed that the either where to young, to stupid or to foolish and that they therefore deserve it? so now i should live whit that one scammed me on ahrim robe as i got a black skirt? i shouldn't have reported him now should i? cant wait till the day you buy a d Hally from the elven shop but instead u get a tinderbox. and to those associating this whit realife gambling plz note, in realife we don't sell 200 lottery tickets and have the vining lottery tickets our self, and its highly unleagel. have fun at jail if this is the way u think. qeltar
The fact that people may be "stupid" doesn't justify the behavior of scammers and con artists. Do you have the same attitude in the real world? If Granny falls for a guy who lies to her about an investment and is left penniless, then who cares about Granny because she was stupid? I'll also remind you that Jagex is deliberately targeting this game at children, and children -- shock of shocks -- sometimes lack in judgment. I'd rather be on a world with 100 naive but kind and considerate people than one "smart" jerk trying to rip people off. Liquid_Harem
Let's make conning people legal! Lets make mugging (theiving) and murder (pking) legal too IRL... Point is, this is a game, and you shouldnt be comparing it to real life.

So it IS effectively something that impacts "real life". ~q Sheesh, people are forgetting this is a MMO ROLE PLAYING GAME, if someone wants to ROLEPLAY they are a thief or fraud, it should be possible, as long as it does not mean they are exploiting (IE bug abusing) to achieve their goals. As for the real life comments: How often do you see dragons in real life? Is murder not illegal in real life? Ever seen someone cast a huge ball of fire and throw it at someone? Itsjustagame
Ok, first off just because few people get banned for it doesn't mean its ok :shame: . Would you scam a old woman (or man) in real life and say its ok because; A) You didn't get caught (e.g. not getting banned) B) They were stupid enough to fall for it. (e.g. they fell for the scam) Your saying in real life the police (mods are Jagex's "police") shouldn't have the right to throw you in jail (e.g. banned in game) if you scam someone, now who's the idiot :XD: . And I care. If the old woman is dumb enough to give me her purse willingly, I have no problem with it. Your second "point", if you can even call it that, makes no sense at all. Im 100% sure I said if someone is dumb enough to hand over their items willingly to another person, knowing very well what *might* happen, then they deserve to be scammed, as the other person didn't really do anything wrong, technically they were given the items. Please read before you go calling me an idiot. Btw, emoticons in a comeback make you look childish. Wth is your problem, people have their own opions.. Plus I've never fallen for that scam anyways. so calm down Me calm down? I stated a whity remark. I'm pretty sure I didn't go off the charts. Maybe you need to calm down and read the first line you wrote. Wth is your problem, people have their own opions Yeah, exactly. So get over it kid. If you're dumb enough to fall for it, its not really a scam, it's you being an idiot. Attitudes like this are why the RS community now sucks. ~q I've been there for the good, the bad, and the present. So how dare you accuse me of contributing to the horrible community. WingedFish
Okay... How would you feel if one day... You decide that you want McDonalds for lunch. You go into McDonalds, order a big Mac, large pop, and fries (supersized, of course). You hand your money over the counter to the register operator, when she suddenly sprays out "LOLZORS n00b I haxx0ragizored j00!!!!11 GOD UR SO STOPPID!!111" then hops out the employee exit and disappears. You go to the manager to complain, but since this is actually a parallel universe generated by the stupidity of some people on these forums, the manager tells you there is no problem with what the employee did, and to suck it up. Did you technically "give" the employee your money? yes. According to a lot of people here, that makes it a fair transaction.

(well good luck on that) if money is real so important in the game that u you may kill other players happiness then i suggest u get some therapy... if this is a game and that's the reason to be allowed to scam then how about all other rules. to make a end to this i want to point out this thing. jagax has the game and they make the law in it, they don't want scamer so let it be. if you want a game where u may scam then i suggest you make ur own game or find one where u may. (wonder why there's no such game.. well no one want to play!) oo and think about if j mods starts scaming using the general shops or geting things from your acount =) Dyslexia lvl 99, Youtube:3D RS, My 3D on Tif, My Runetrack, My Tif Profile

Eccentric
Personally, I think when you are smarter, stronger and such than other people you have a responsibility. Using any skills you have for personal gain is fine, but you should not step all over other people in the process. Scamming is not only stepping on people, it is rubbing your shoe in the pavement afterwards for good measure. Yeah, maybe the fault lies with the person who fell for it, but what kind of person takes advantage of that? Anyone can scam the greedy, the trusting, and the naive, it takes more respect for yourself as a person to choose to work towards goals and earning things. It sours the game for everyone, not just the person who lost out.

Chocobodude0
Wow, this isn't even an argument. Scamming is against the rules because it's tricking someone into doing something harmful to them (mostly financially) for a personal gain, or entertainment. It's cheating, that's why it's against the rules...

Yeah, responsibility of not killing them when you meet them... Let's make pking illegal? "OMG SCAMMING IS ILLEGAL IRL TOO!" And you PK irl, too? now there's a BRILLIANT idea! RS isn't nearly realistic enough, I think that from now on, if you get PKed, you drop everything you own, the bank should reposess all your items, and you get perma banned so you can never play again! Then it will match RL perfectly :) Point is, if you kill someone in a game, they come back from the dead, dust their knees off and keep playing. If they happened to lose their items when they died, it's their own fault for engaging in combat with another player, and they should understand that this type of competition can lead to losing your items. Scamming, on the other hand, their stuff is gone for good, and they don't understand that they could lose their items, since they are expecting you to hold up your end of the deal, and not be a dirty cheat. Besides, a person is only as good as their word is.
misterxman
Admitting to scam and discussing it trying to find a good side to it is bad. Scamming to its simplest form is finishing a deal that the other person didn't agree with. If someone doesn't agree with the deal, but it still happens, then something wrong happened.
