What makes school the "right thing"?

First of all, what is the point of living if you dont have fun doing it?

 

 

 

People say money cant make people happy, but why do we go to school? To get an education so you can make more money in life.

 

 

 

So I ask you, if money can't make people happy, why spend your life trying to make more money? What makes school the "right" thing to do?

True money can't bring happiness, I agree 100% with you there nor success. I think school is important to get a good career, to help people, whether directly or indirectly. What you gain from your career can be used to support whoever you end up marrying (if you do get married) or your kids to make their futures possibly brighter. That's why I would get a good education at school. Which I already have btw (96 GPA).

 

 

 

If you don't have kids or anyone else to support, you might as well use the money you gained from that good education that you had to study hard for on what you love to do, and live life to the fullest. Possibly helping other people less fortunate than you along the way.

What is the alternative? Live in the wild? Let's say you're right and school is a waste of time. Everyone soon follows suit and no one goes to school. Better hope you don't get sick because doctors sure as heck aren't going to want to go to school for 25 years "since money can't buy happiness". You can't play computer games since no one is educated enough to make new ones, and you can't even drive since no one is educated enough to drill for gas or run a refinery.

Education kills ignorance [well, at least its supposed to], and leads to an organized society in which people are somewhat knowledgeable about the world around them. It promotes careers that advance humanity [such as the sciences], and advocates getting a job, so that a stable social structure can exist. The point of making money is a lead off of a career from education, it is not the main purpose [of modern education]. Of course, this also results in a stable economy, which then you could say leads back to the point of education. However, a stable economy is a part of an organized society, not the other way around. The employment from education donates to economic stability.

Working isnt exactly fun. Neither is keeping up and maintaning a working civilization and country. Just think what would happen if everyones mentality was what you would say [and its somewhat obvious at the moment, with all the idiots at school who "just want to have fun"]. Thankfully, many people arent so selfish as to say 'I just want to have fun", if that was the case humanity would be stuck somewhere and everyone would be supposedly 'having fun', which gets old preety quick...

Actually money CAN buy happiness, just to a certain extent. In this case a house to live in, food, taxes, clothing, etc. The things we don't even think about untill they're gone...

 

 

 

Trust me, it's much better to be good in school and have something higher than a High School diploma than just a diploma/or none and work as long shifts just to pay off the taxes and basic needs. My parents came to US from Argentina with just a Secondary School diploma. My dad used to work in his video store everyday from 12 to 9. With traffic around here he would leave around 10 AM and arrive back at 11 PM. He couldn't hire employees so it was himself and a family friend working there. Now he works as a 18 trailer-truck driver and is gone for 3-5 days at a time, most often more. He stays here for a weekend maybe and heads out back on the road.

I'm not specifically talking about technological advancements. I said advancement of society. The more people are educated, the less disputes over ignorance there will be. Education promotes social function, which leads to truces, alliances, peace talks, etc. In countries with little education and much ignorance, violence is prevalent over words [unfortunately, thats their only way]. Both technological and social advancements will occur, and the wourld will realize further peace, as a result of education.

Thats something called maturity and balance. Mature people balance their time wisely. They dont go around "doing whatever they want to do". They plan ahead. When your a teen you tend to be spontaneous because of your lack of maturity, and you sometimes make rash decisions. However, an mature adult with a secure life can and will make time for whatever "fun" activity he desires, wether it be golf or skydiving.

I agree with what you said to an extent. It may not be fun to live in the United States without a good education, but that is only because everybody else has a college education. If you live somewhere you you can just live off the land, it would be much better. Lets say you life off the land in some beach of some island in the caribbian.

 

 

 

In the morning, you sleep untill you want to wake up. You then go wade out in the water, and fish for an hour or two. Go cook a fish you catch, and eat it for breakfast. Smoke a few more fish, and leave them to dry. Then go hang out with your other friends once they finish fishing. Lunch, you find some native fruit that grows there. Eat it for lunch. Go do an hour or so of cleaning up near your house. Later for dinner, eat one of the smoked fish you caught. If you want, sleep at your friend's house. Wake up the next morning, and do the same thing. You might do this 6 days a week. On the 7th day, you trade some fish or whatever for some other item you want. When you get old, you'r children watch out, and care for you. You would do the same for your parents. By the time you're 70, your body is tired and ready to die. You die a peaceful death, and people celebrate that you can move on to some other life. If you catch a disease when you're 30 or so, people will do their best to take care of you, but if you die, oh well. You'll be in a better place.

That is the problem I see. Would you rather work nonstop for 15 years, and then get to go do fun things for a few years, or have a life where you dont have and real responsibilities, and can go leave when you want to?

 

 

 

Most people retire at around 50-55. At 55, I dont think you are in the best shape to go skydiving. By 65, I am sure you will be too old to do anything like that.

First of all, that is africa. I was not talking about africa. I know that in africa, people live in poverty, and starve. Why does that happen? Because there is a lack of food. Lack of food > starvation. If you live somewhere where there is enough food, you wont have those problems.

I didn't quote you at first, because I was overwhelmed with responses. The world is overpopulated in places that are remotely desireable to live in. Sure there might not be overpopulation in montana, but what is there in that part of the world that you can live off? When I say overpopulation, I dont mean there is nowhere to live. I mean that are not enough resources to live off.

 

 

 

People die naturally. Medicine is unatural. If people survive at a higher rate than they would naturally, it upsets the balance of nature. Notice all the animals that go extinct? Many go extince either because people kill all of them physicaly, or we kill something they kill, causing them to starve, causing something else to over populate. There is a human over population.

 

 

 

And yes, global warming is natural, but people are accelerating it, in an unatural way. Polar bears are going extinct. They are already endangared. Dont tell me this is a natural cycle, because if it was, they would have gone extinct last time this happened.

 

 

 

And I'm not saying we are going to turn into x-men. I was saying someone could release a disease that would be very easily transmitable, and would be like a very bad flu, that you cant cure.
