Teenage Drug Abuse

Featured Replies

A few observations that I have made after 4 years of an upper-middle class high school.

1.95% of your high school has been drunk at least once. I was apart of the skater crowd and I thought that only us did that kind of thing until I went to this one girls sweet 16 where about 400 people were drunk. Even the people who I would never expect

2. Most girls think that smoking is nasty, but get drunk every weekend. I have NEVER known(that means that I actually talk to them) a girl who didn't get drunk at least a few times a month.

3. Not many kids smoke weed frequently. A lot of people think that they will die or suffer from brain damage. A lot of people smoke cigarettes, but not smoke weed

I think that the reason weed hasn't been legalized is because it is not addictive. Many politicians are known to love beer and are addicted to it so they support it all the way, but weed isn't addictive.

As a general rule when people refer to drugs they mean illegal ones. I thought that was common sense.

I've only drank. Hang out with so many people that smoke pot, though. I've had friends asked to me to smoke, but that was last year. Maybe if someone asked me then I'd have to say "hell yeah".

It's not really addictive I hear - Unless you're really stupid. [Credits to Dusty, hah]

:-k

For the first years at high school the numbers are much lower than that. That should be pretty accurate by the end of your last year, though.

EDIT: I just read this which I have a hard time believing:

More than half (58%) of 12th graders report having been drunk at least once in their life. One fifth (20%) of 8th graders report having been drunk at least once in their life.

I've found that girls smoke as many cigarettes, if not more, than guys do.

I know a lot of girls (and guys for that matter) who don't like to get drunk. All of them have their reasons; some of them are scared to try it, some of them prefer to smoke weed, and others are completely against the idea of being intoxicated.

Personal experiences

I hope and will never do drugs or over do it on alchohol.

Reason for the drugs, waste money, time your life, you can get inrouble with the authorities, damages yourself and I have asthma.

And who ever asked why tabacco is legal when all the other stuff isn't its because if they ban tabacco, that would put many people out of work causing unemployment to rocket, less people to buy products, less stores sell, less producers produce and sell to manifacturers and stores plus it would make organized crime go up by alot, just like when they banned alchohol in the USA.

Do you really think that it is because people will lose jobs? lmao. Not that many in the U.S. are employed by tobacco companies  It is because of how much money the govt makes off of the taxes on alcohol and tobacco, also because of a lot of politicians smoke and drink ;)

Drinking in highschool for me was just the staging ground for drinking in college.

My parents used to turn a blind eye whenever I would drink their beer or take it over to a friend's house. Pretty much everyone drank in highschool, but I definitley enjoy the parties at my fraternity house over anything else.

As for smoking, I think mostly everyone has tried marijuana at some point in thier early years.

Rock on one of the main reasons I got over it was because it made my O.C.D even worse because when coming down it alters your serotonin levels and the brains relationship with dopamine. It does damage you mentally in the long run if you do it often.

It was fun I must admit but those days are over and I have come a hell of a long way from not knowing where my next meal was coming from, to being a motivational speaker/psych to go back down that road again.

I don't regret anything in life, if I didn't go through so much I wouldn't be able to relate and understand peoples behaviour and motives as well as I do. It's one thing to listen but another to actually know what they're going through and sometimes that's all people want, someone who understands them, not someone to label or judge them.

I do understand why people do it, why it's so hard to get stuck in that reality, why it makes you think differently, the problems that can occur on it, after it, etc

Remind us, that the scary looking bum, begging

for money in the same spot every day (who really

ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions

that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

Is marijuana addictive?

No one would argue that marijuana is as addictive as alcohol or cocaine. However, it's wrong to say that it is not at all addictive. More and more studies are finding that marijuana has addictive properties. Both animal and human studies show physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms from marijuana, including irritability, restlessness, insomnia, nausea and intense dreams. Tolerance to marijuana also builds up rapidly. Heavy users need 8 times higher doses to get the same effects as infrequent users.

For a small percentage of people who use it, marijuana can be highly addictive. It is estimated that 10% to 14% of users will become heavily dependent. More than 120,000 people in the US seek treatment for marijuana addiction every year. Because the consequences of marijuana use can be subtle and insidious, it is more difficult to recognize signs of addiction. Cultural and societal beliefs that marijuana cannot be addictive make it less likely for people to seek help or to get support for quitting.

from my experiences its addicting as coffee, caffeine, or chocolate. and depending how much you do tolerance takes over a year to build up, i hardly call that rapid. who tests pot on animals.. :shame: credible for humans, no...

My point was you can't say it isn't addictive. Not too long ago nicotine addiction was unknown.
