How many xbox 360 owners here have faulty 360s?

I haven't got a 360 yet..but..how comon are these errors, like the disc scratching. Are the scratches just very light, or are they big huge deep gouges :?

A lot of the retailers are estimating a 30% failure rate in the 360s. The scratches can be light or deep, i have both right now #-o

About the scratching disc thing... I hope you guys aren't moving your xboxs while the discs are inside... Every single thing ive ever owned that uses discs has always said never move the system while the CD/DVD is inside. That included if its off.

The 360 actually scratches it on its own, if you tip it vertically while its horizontal when it has a disc in it or any kind of movement it will instantly ruin it which isn't so bad cause you shouldn't be moving it anyway.

In response to the recent Mercury News interview, a man who has had 8 consoles fail so far explains what he believes the issue with the hardware is.

Besides the issues mentioned in the article, the 360 suffers from the following issues:

-dvd scratching caused by Hitachi drives

-Dirty Disc/open tray caused by failing lasers (ms uses drives with weak lasers).

-Open tray caused by magnets detaching from the laser meganism.

-X-CLAMP issues (causing overheating).

-Video output becoming darker until it completely stops working

The Elite suffers from the same issues.

Personally, I think that it's ridiculous that Microsoft can get away with this and that people keep supporting them. Why not use quality DVD drives etc? I'm sure that this costs them more than a proper 360 design.

They also don't use rubber around the laser (if not the laser something like it, i can't remember exact name) which can cause the disc to get scratched up.

Also, i found this pretty darn humorous \'

Mine has recently scratched my GH II and Gears of War discs so they are unusable... it was vertical, so we've switched it to horizontal. We still have to pay 20$ for each game through that disc replacement program, I guess it's better than buying a whole new game.

i got the ring off death and the 360 was still in its warrenty so i got it replaced but the replacement was a dud too so they gave me anothha replacement and a free 360gam =P~

My cousin's 360 broke recently. It sucked for him because the day before he bought Guitar Hero 2.

I think all gaming systems and computers(at least all that I have used) were created to be placed in a position in which the disc is inserted horizontally with the side of the disc that is read facing the floor, ground, not ceiling or walls, etc.

not me. mine is, and always has been working flawlessly. not one problem (yet)....

I haven't had a single problem, and if I do, it won't be a problem. If you read the recent news, Microsoft extended the warranty to 3 years AND all those who had to pay for repairs before the new warranty was announced can get a refund.

No it didn't, you read it wrong #-o They extended the warranty for ONLY the 3 red lights, none of the other problems.

I love how everybody thinks that the Red Rings are such a common problem.

My wireless controller won't work.

My ring of light on the console won't show one light showing the first player.

The 360 can't read my Tony Hawk Project 8 randomly, but the disc is perfect.

I think I might. :|

why does everyone have their xbox the wrong way?! (thats why its scratching) - and i havnt had any errors at all at the moment (bought it a month ago)

They're not, but that doesn't mean it should be a problem in the first place.

Microsoft also say you should remove the cover and hover or dust the internal parts of your X-Box every month or so. Most of these faults are due to overheating also. Ive cleaned mine every month for 6 months and it runs great! ::'

Someone I know of had a dolphin tattooed on her chest. She got fat and the dolphin turned into a whale...

Discs scratch because of people MOVING the console with the disc in it...take it out...helps ALOT !

i got mine a while back not a problem...well 1 but thats because its oblivion and any1 who has it knows its a massive game and can crash for obvious reasons.

He's right..the other day, I took my xbox (not 360), and took a vacuum hose to the fan. t doesn't make as much noise, and now it actually loads faster >.>

I got the ring of death once. I turned it off and left crestfallen. The next day, it started working again. Such a naughty box :shame: .

Oh yea, it randomly brings up "unable to read disc" messages, while IM PLAYING LIVE. It got me so many bad reviews, because the folks think i left the game like a loser... Hopefully its just the gears of war cd and not the system.

I get the "Unable to read disk" every so often with every game I play. I just Take it out, wipe it off and continue playing. Oh, and for all of you who say your 360 scratches your games with no refund? Sucks to be you and good thing for me I buy all my games from EB. I like the idea of paying $3 to insure the game. I've almost had to use it for my brand new Guitar Hero X-Plorer, which broke six days after I bought it. Thankfully there was also a seven day garuntee so I saved my self three bucks.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.
