Armageddon, in my opinion the best movie I've ever seen. A disaster film about a massive meteorite about to hit the Earth and kill all living organisms, a global killer. A team off the best oil-drillers in the world (lead by Bruce Willes) is trained in a very short time into astranouts. Their job? to destroy the meteorite with a nuclear bomb from the inside to save mankind. A really "must see" movie with plenty of hilarious scenes and lots of destruction. The downside of the movie is that quiet alot of patriotism is going on, but hey that's only a very small detail.

I remember seeing it ages ago. I thought it was pretty good. Not the greatest movie in the world though.

Its not a bad movie but Ben Aflecks love scene with the animal crackers with Liv Tyler is cringingly awful. It didn't live up to its title like Deep Impact did though which was annoying. On a more positive note didn't Paris get hit by a meteor shower early on in the film? Happy with that.

I don't think I've ever actually heard "Armageddon" and "impressive masterpiece" put together before.

It's quite typical action movie dross, but I like it. I find it to be pretty emotional.

Yea, I guess you can call it a modern classic. Not really a fan of the movie, though. But it's pretty good. Deffinitly essential for the nineties, and Michael Bay of course. Which is also the reason that 60% of the planet hates it.

I don't think that's true Daan, I think most people hate the stupid romance subplot.

agreed...and made especially so, since Affleck is involved in the romance (and I'm not even a hard-core Affleck hater...I've actually liked him in some movies). As for disaster movies, this one ranks pretty low on my list. Mainly, I see it as a missed opportunity...it had the budget and cast to be really good, but failed, imo.

But needless to say I've seen Armageddon and thought it was great. Though I saw it when I was like 13 so its not fresh in my mind, that's for sure. :wink:

omg NEVER mention Armageddon ever again..... i saw it and i loved it but of course of Starz (i think thats what it was) movies stay on for a month and of course, my dad looooooved it. so i saw it about 16 times and im like "dad, how are you not sick of this?" it's a good movie the first time though.

I remember when I first saw this almost when it came out I almost cried at the end, I felt like a total idiot. Watched it again later and realized how cheesy it was. A fun movie though.

I love it :) I've actually owned the movie for several years now. I must say that I'm a sucker for disaster movies O:)

i liked it, but the premis is sorta bad >_>, let's get some oil diggers to put a nuke in the asteroid O.o

I thought I'd not mention that I watched it 16 times for spam, but looks like I'm not the only one who saw it 16 times lol :P

It was a pretty good movie in terms of action and effects, but the plot was about as deep as a puddle. It was full of "MTV Science", and at times bordered on being outright stupidity. Despite that, I still enjoyed it.

 

 

 

I wouldn't say it was the best movie ever though... in fact, I don't think it would even make it into my Top250, were I ever to make one lol.

"Die Hard"(first) and "The Terminator" first 2 chapters ,now,those are true masterpieces.
