What do you think of giving prosthetic limbs to animals? Is it the right thing to do?

No ... they should be made to hobble around on 3̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâý legs?

If the owners can afford it, of course it's a good idea.

However I am a realist and therefore know that I probably wont be able to.

Is it right? Are you plain out [developmentally delayed]ed? Sorry for being harsh, but seriously! "Man has no leg! Is it right to add artificial leg???"

Why would it be wrong to give an animal a prosthetic leg? Is it wrong to give them those wheelie things to 2-legged dogs so they can walk? No. Why did you even ask that?

If the owner can afford this. Which I am guessing would be incredibly expensive, as vets are. My cat broke two of her legs and the vet wanted $2,000.

But as I was saying, if the owner can afford it, more power to him. I see dogs with three legs, and it's not the most pleasent thing to see them hobbling round like they do.

The one I see quite often is owned by some guy who looks homeless. And he walks around everywhere and his poor dog with three legs has to follow him, and I quite often see his dog just sit down, and not get up for half an hour. Won't even budge because it's so exhausted. It sat down on the road once and wouldn't move, had to be carried off.

I really meant it. How are we supposed to know if the dog wants a metal limb or not?

How are we supposed to know if the dog really wants to be owned as a pet or locked up in a kennel for 23 hours a day?

When you give a dog a prosthetic limb, you're permanently altering the dog. Keeping a dog as a pet isn't going to physically chance the dog forever. :-s

Anyways, it's not that I'm against giving prosthetic limbs to animals. Infact it'll most likely enhance the quality of life for the animal. But what if the animal doesn't want a metal pole sticking out of them? They can't tell you if they don't want it.

Yes, and when you give a human a new heart to save their life you're permanently altering them.

Where the heck are you going with this?

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

These suck now I won't get to see any of those cool dogs with wheelchairs for their back legs :(

I remember seeing one of those on a news show. So humerous, yet so wrong. The new kind shown here looks like a definite improvement.

How do we know someone unconscious who has a heart attack wants to go through an operation and live? We don't know for sure but we have common sense. You do what's best for animals/humans when it's a pretty obvious black and white situation. There's no reason a dog would dislike having an artificial limb over no limb at all. If it feels different for a few days they'll get used to it either way. I think you think this 'issue' is a lot deeper than it really is.
