Tom Morello can do some amazing things on the guitar, but as far as the greatest of all time...

In my opinion, we have to look back a couple of decades to Hendrix or Jimmy Page.

Here's a pretty good list that I found on the greatest guitarists of all time:Greatest Guitarists

^only thing I don't agree about is that Jack White is only an honorable mention...

I could never decide who the "best" guitarist ever is, there's just too many people. o__O

But my favorite guitarist would be Tom Morello.

Yeah, I probably shoulda re-phrased it...Hendrix is definitly one of the best though.

Satch or Van Halen.

Hendrix was fine...his solos to me sound like he's just hitting random notes and distorting the hell out of them.

I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.

Even though i'm not too keen on guitar music i would have to say either Mick Thompson or Joe satriani (sp?)

There are so many of them in the world it's hard to chose, but i think George Harrision is the best.

Now Dont get me wrong, I like zeppelin, infact, I'm wearing my Zepplin shirt right now. But Page isn't that good of a guitarest, in the skill sense, he doesnt even still play.

On the topica at hand though, I would pick hendrix over your options(I'd say Page was better too!) but thats just cause I dont see the alure of those guitarests work...

Imma have to go ahead and say Alexi Laiho. Not the greatest all time, but that's be awfully hard to tell. He's my favorite.

I'm going to have to say that Hendrix and Clapton are the best.

You got a good point, Clapton is one of the good ones. :D

Steve Vai or something. It doesn't really matter, and it's kind of comparing apples with pears.

I'm going with David Gilmour right about now

this is a totally opinionated question. There is no "best" of anything music related.

My favorite guitarist is Buckethead.

Eddie Van Halen. I listened to "Eruption" once and I was convinced. I also think Joe Satriani and Eric Clapton are awesome.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

Halen was only a good tapper but for best I have to go with Hendrix or Gilmour. But best creativity goes to Tom Morello

That's great he's your favorite, but this topic is the greatest of all time, not who's your favorite.

Hendrix

I'm just gonna piss everyone off and say Buckethead and Herman Li. (Even though Hendrix etc are better they never played as fast or with a kfc bucket on their head)

Sig by me....

Moleno is not that great.

If anyone has heard his solo CD, 'One Man revolution' by the 'Nigh[bleep]chman'

You know he is not that great at fingerpicking.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

as for good guitarists, I would say:

Hendrix, Duane Allman, David Gillmore, George Harrison.

oh yeah, and Isto

Dimebag Darrell. His mastery of a fret board both with powerful riffs and an incredible ability to solo mashed in with his ability to write music still makes me question whether he was a human being. I have my suspicions... :anxious:
