Are Defenders worth it?

Featured Replies

I have been working on getting defenders... and am up to mith. When I use it with my dragon scimitar, I don't really see much change. I checked out the Max Hit calculator and found that I can hit as high with my dragon scimitar and a kite shield as with the scimitar and a rune defender. So what do defenders do exactly and does anyone recommend a rune defender over a rune kiteshield?

Defenders are worth it in my opinion.

Rune defender gives you +20 to stab, +19 to Slash and +18 to crush attacks.

I know of nothing else you can hold in the shield slot that is comparable.

the way I look at it if you don't need a shield (depending upon what you are killing, the defender is the way to go!

Rune defenders are really good, they give like +5 str and some defence plus they cost nothing

Definetily considering it has an awesome attack bonus that helps you hit more and they're free!

Yes, yes they are! ::'

Definetely, I got one for myself and I've never even thought of going back to a Rune Kite or even for a D Square unless I got full Dragon

Well, I personally think they are worth it. I have a stock-pile of them. If you want to spend.. I think around 300k on an Obby Shield, they have the same strength bonus and a better defence bonus than the rune defender. It just depends what you are looking for in particular, and whether or not you want to dish out the cash. I also believe Obby shields require 60 defence to wield, where as a rune defender only requires 40, making it a good option for rune pures, etc..

Yes, defenders are definitely worth it. The attack bonuses it gives are extraordinary, even if the str bonus is kinda minimal.

ITs worth it. Bonuses own.

Pretty much done with rs now

You must be using the calculator wrong. Numbers don't lie, 5 more strength bonus equates to about one (or possibly two) more damage to your max.

It also boosts your attack bonuses, and is recoverable if pking in low levels of the wilderness.

After I got mine, I ditched my rune kite and obsidian shield. The defender's defence bonuses are reasonably nice, but I notice I hit a good bit more often because of the attack bonuses.

However, I don't suggest it for fighting high level monsters with prayer (Zamorak/Guthix book) or without prayer (obsidian shield or better). On them you'd need all the defence/prayer bonus you can get.

And only keep rune and adamant, unless you get a few extra rune defenders.
