August 15, 200718 yr Ahh sorry to be the insensitive b*tch here but cut the crap 'I could have done this' 'my mother could have done that' you can do anything you want, child or no child if you really want something bad enough. Using your kid as an escape goat for why you couldn't or didn't do something is a f*cking cop out. Sorry but I don't like people who use excuses... You can do anything and I stand by that. My dad was a street rat with a dream, I was born earlier than expected and he still did it. I have a mother of 6 children and another one on the way doing my uni course and she is in the top 5% of QLD. My motto: "No excuses". The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

August 15, 200718 yr Could you imagine that? Seriously! "If you weren't born I could have found a cure for cancer". No wonder you wouldn't care if you weren't here, jeez. August 15, 200718 yr I dont belive abortion should be a choice in teen pregnancy, they made a mistake they should have to deal with it, the baby didnt do anything wrong why should it be denied the right to live because mommy decided to slum around in highschool? if your not amture enough to raise a child, put it up for a doption so someone who is mature enough to raise it, will. the people who are saying abortion are usually the same people who are aggainst the death penalty, it makes no sense, they will let a mass murderer live, but not an innocent baby. The roughly 200 million plus sperm males ejaculate every orgasm didn't do anything wrong, why should they be denied the right to an egg for fertilization because someone choses to pleasure themselves? did you seriously just make that comparison? a sperm alone cant become a fetus, rubbing one out is not the same as an abortion. We're probably not on the same wavelength here. My comparison was between sperm and a zygote (combined sperm and egg). The idea in comparing these two is that some against abortion often cite the zygote as the beginning of life. I want to know why this line in the sand is the one chosen when you can track life's potential back to sperm and eggs and even prior to that. Every of the 50 trillion cells making up you codes for your entire body and thus has a potential to make one 'you'. The argument about life's potential to me dosen't hold much water. With the right tools and an understanding of genetics, I could mix, match and manipulate the genes of a few organisms with various DNA-ases and give you a human being. Let me take this in a different direction; what's wrong with terminating the life of an unborn foetus not yet with a developed nervous system (i.e relatively early on in the pregnancy) when it's mother hasn't got the financial capacity to care for it. In other words, who's hurt here? Now compare that outcome to the mother refusing an abortion, ending up in financial difficulty and not being able to provide for her baby. Who's hurt here? In the first scenario the mother has the ability to pursue what she would have otherwise done with her life, which could include any number of careers or ending up as a mother but in a much more financially secure position to provide for her child. In the second scenario the mother is burdened by the child and both mother and child have less opportunity in life than they otherwise could have if the mother had the child while in a financially better position to do so.

You present a good argument, but thats where Adoption comes in, if someone is not financial secure enough, or emotionally ready for a baby i dont think an abortion should be the first thing that comes to mind. I believe there are grey area's where abortions should be considered, like if the mothers health is in danger, or some inbred hick father decided to rape his daughter and get her pregnant. but if the girl just had sex without a condom and got pregnant she should have to cary the burden of pregnancy as a reminder that if your not ready for a child, then your not ready for unprotected sex. im not saying keep the child, just put it up for adoption so someone who can provide the proper care for the baby, can. I just dont believe abortion should be the first thing that comes to someones mind when they find out they are pregnant and arent ready for that kind of responsibility. August 15, 200718 yr Warrior would you like a hug too? :P Haha, sure. :P I see what you were saying above and I agree. "No excuses" is a great motto to live by but generally, people do make excuses. My post was going on that generality of what unfortunately often happens. In an ideal world no one would complain and we would all soldier on financial hardship or not and make all our lives awesome. All I was pointing out was that it's often the case that those who wait to have kids in a more secure setting or happen to have no 'mistakes' have a better chance at success and a fruitful life than those who do have a 'mistake' and go through with the pregnancy. This is one part of the basis for why I'm pro-choice when it comes to something like abortion. Granted I'm assuming these hypothetical outcomes with regards to the situation of mother and child but I feel it's an accurate assumption going by how society works. Fair call?

It's hard to disagree with any of that, so I won't. :P Adoption is another great option and I'd tend to agree you shouldn't jump straight for abortion. This issue always demands careful consideration and consultancy.

Lol i dont know if they would be more shocked that two people on different sides on an issue are agreeing, or that 2 people on a runescape message board have the maturity to have a discussion like this and tthen be able to agree to disagree in a amture way :P and yeah, im a christian, but a christian who questions certain aspects of his religion. Not to dwell on it very much, but i find the bible to be more of a book of guidlines of how we should live, than a history book. August 15, 200718 yr Buying houses was easier back in the day, most people with degrees and two incomes still cant afford a house these days. But yeah, more details needed on this person story... August 15, 200718 yr But don't worry kids, he dropped out of school at 15 to buy 2 houses and earn over 300k a year. How did you manage that, by the way jay? Sell your story to a soap opera? I don't mean to spill my guts here but I don't mind; maybe it will be beneficial for people to know my story. I understand that some - most stories can be complete, utter bull sh*t, however, in all seriousness, sometimes there is honesty involved. My dad was on the street from 8/9 years old and has lived his dream for the past 30 years. I didn't even know who my father was until I was a teenager because he worked so hard for his dream and to put food in my mouth. I only remember saying goodnight and then goodnight again the next night for the next 13 years. My only memory to the age of 10 apart from that was a kiss to the forehead; and an, I love you sweet dreams and sometimes a quick bed time story. I remember all my birthdays though because dad made sure he had 13 days off each 13 years to be there for them. I never fully understood for the following 3 years why he never had the time to see me do a back flip on the trampoline just like a yellow power ranger or build a cubby house out of the linen cupboard blankets, why he didn't know who the samurai pizza cats were but somehow all the pictures I drew made it to the top of the refrigerator with "I'm proud of you, love daddy xo" made it there. However, is the best dad I could ever ask for? (And majority of the time he relies on my two brothers and I, to help him with spelling and grammar because he never had the opportunity to finish high school yet alone start it, he learnt everything he knew from reading dictionaries and encyclopaedias). I mean f*ck he raised three kids with no less than university level education and the youngest kid already owns a car and is investing for a house. He is someone who went from becoming a ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Ånobody̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâà The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
August 15, 200718 yr If you have a child before you can assure you'll be making enough money to afford it in the future, it was either an accident, or an act of plain stupidity. Having a child at 15, 16, 17 will probably screw up your life. You'll probably have to stay home to take care of it instead of going to college/university and starting a career that will bring you enough money to take care of it..
