The pope ... is dead.

This will not affect me directly, and to be honest it does not bother me any more than the death of any old man whom I have never met.

I am more bothered by the tsunami and things like the aids epidemic in Africa.

But I am sorry for anyone who is affected by this, and I do understand he did some good things.

I'm not Catholic, so I can't sympathise with many. I don't respect the late Pope for being the leader of the largest religion (not that this is something that doesn't deserve respect), but I respect him for his intelligence and leadership abilities.

As I've said before, it's sad for him to have passed away, but I feel that every death should recieve the same respect. It is a big deal to many, but this event will not directly effect my life in any way.

Well said, couldn't agree more.

I'm rather unmoved aswell just because some huy dies doens't meen that we should all stop to remember him... what about all the innocent lives that are lost every day that nobody thinks about. Hes dead lets just get a new one.

Did you know that some people actually care about the pope? Did you know that the pope means a lot to a lot of people? Did you know that when someone you care about dies, you can't just "get a new one" without feeling sad and stop to remember him as a sign of respect? If you died, your family can't just get a new you, they'd mourn and miss you.

For millions of catholics and even for some non-catholics, the Pope was a spiritual icon and tourch in a troublesome word. For their sake, you should thread careful when you post your opinions about this head of the catholic church, if you for some reasons want to say something negative about him. Let me remind you all of our rule #5:

Posts that are disparaging toward any religion, race, nation, social status, gender, or sexual orientation are strictly forbidden. Any post using excessive vulgarity, threatening or harassing, obscene or hateful, deliberately inaccurate or misleading, explicitly sexual in nature, an invasion of a person?s privacy, abusing our censor, or in any other way violates the law may be edited or removed and the user may be banned (at the discretion of the Administrators).

Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, but if your opinion involves the disrespect of others then it shall be deleted.

This does not affect me at all, but it will affact many, i know that. He must of been a great man, if he was one of the most loved pope's ever. Even though i shall not mourn for his death, i will respect others, and him.

Oh and to the person who said something about his mumbling... i watched the news last night when they annoucend it. they showed a clip of a mass he whent to when he was much younger... that man had a very strong voice. He was probably one of the world strongest and best leaders.

So to those who are being disrespectfull...

Shut up and let other people do their thing!

That is really disrespectful to those that really are touched by this.

I'm a Christian, and so I'm sad and all cos he died. He was a good man, good leader, yadda yadda yadda, everything that is said as a given in this situation (hey, at least I give a damn, rather than most on this topic). But, I will be looking at this from the point of view of the Church (as I always will in matters like this). To be honest, I see nothing but opportunity here. As head of the Catholic Church, you'd assume that his ascension into heaven is assured, so I don't know why everyone is still praying. He's gone, he's already up there with the saints and the angels (and I'm not being sarcastic, I do really believe that), now lets start concentrating on whats happening now. The current candiadates for Pope present an interesting mix. Some of them are actually quite big on unity and faith in scripture! There's one bloke from Latin America who looks like a good one, and theres another one from Germany who's okay. The next Pope's gonna have far more problems than the old one, and will need to be a much more active force in the world. The Catholics need someone who can shoulder that burden.

Goals to get my skills back up to a barely respectable level on the high scores:

Currently going for Bone to Peaches spell. It's amazing how boring doing the same repetitive task is! Stupid MTA

There's nothing wrong in being respectful, like I'm trying to be. However, i hope that the next pope is less conservative on the matter of preventives etc. While volunteerworking in Kenya where most people are very religios, catholic or protestants, the popes word on the matter of HIV/AIDS and conddoms weighs heavier than anything we can say or do. We have made a tour around Kenya with our AIDS information show, i'll post a link to the video as soon as i get home. We'll see white smoke in a few days and then we'll know about the next pope.
