Gold Farmers Sue-able?

Just saw this site http://www.igeclassaction.com/

Seems some guy (who should be made into a saint if their scheme works) is about to sue a RWT company for wasting their time by wrecking the game they play!

Anyone know if we could do the same thing with RuneScape? :D

To clarify - this is an individual player, not the company that runs the game, who is taking the RWT co to court. Also this has nothing to do with who owns the accounts, its about him having his time wasted / the activities of the RWT co.

It depends on the laws on this matter in the country the gold farmers are situated. Violating runescape rules doesn't mean they are violating the law.

Don't forget procedures like this cost allot of money even when succeeded.

No Jagex owns the accounts. If Jagex were to sue them it'd most likely not get too far with the chinese gov't. So they just ban them mainly.

Blizzard own the WoW accounts as well and this is happening anyway so 'Jagex own the accounts' isn't a reason for it not to happen. The case (found here and chock full of legal lingo so forgive me if i can't get all of it right) isn't about owning the account its about the RWT co mucking with the game that this guy Hernandez is paying for, just like we do with RS.

Jagex could, infact you're supposed to ask for permission to put videos on sitesl ike Youtube - Jagex could get the videos taken off if they wanted. The truth is: they don't have the time to waste going through months of legal stuff.

Yet, Jagex have the time, ability and staffing to ban tens of thousands of accounts via there own testing/Report reading.

The man hours in the long run from taking the majority of BIG gold farming sites is puny compared to banning repeatably that is actually only slightly effective if you catch the bot before the goods have be shipped on, sold for gold and the cash has landed in the farmers hand.

Think about it, the bots on RS are so effective because it's FREE to play, if Jagex start taking companies to court over the issue and say, make there stolen property (the gold is legitimately there pixel data, and the farmer is selling it on, so in-fact i think this is one of the reasons a company can "sue" and we all do sign a contract [Terms and conditions] to play.) with enough sites getting wads of money taken back from them soon the numbers will dwindle even slightly.

masses of banned accounts, or Jagex getting money back, and companies leaving for good? What would you pick?

what has this to do with an individual player taking a gold selling site to court?!?

come on, can't even one other person find it in them to go 'cool, someones trying to rain on the parade of the sort of people that have been wrecking our game for soooo damn long'? yeah they might fail etc but at least their giving it a shot. check out the site, check out what their doing, and think what this could mean if it works for RS and all the other MMORPGs

Its Jagex's intellectual property AND they 'rent' accounts to people, if I'm correct they can take your account away at any time for any reason and also DEMAND you remove pictures/videos of Runescape. Thusly it would seem to me that Jagex very much could sue gold farmers for 1)breach of contract, 2)abusing their intellectual property.

Basically in a world where (famously) a house breaker (thief) fell through someones skylight onto knives(or similar) and SUCCESSFULLY sued the home owner for compensation, Jagex can certainly sue some Chinese arseholes for [bleep]ing their game up.

What the hell is wrong with you guy's? especially the guy above me. "Chinese arseholes"? God! Go the hell, man.

Suing someone over a game? Possibly taking a source of income and housing from people by shutting down a company?

I mean, sure, Gold Farming isn't great, but this is *way* too far.

He meant the gold farming/macro/sweatshops, not all Chinese.

Sad though it may be, the rules have to be enforced. Jagex cannot, and should not, allow gold farmers/etc because the peole working there depend on the income. If a poor person steals to make money, they still go to jail. It is not great, and is very sad, yet still neccasary. The game is meant to be PLAYED, not a job and source of income.

Gold farmers have taken the fun out of certain parts of the game for me already, I do not want to see it continue.

I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.

Look chap I'm not going to have this argument again, what they are doing is WRONG (maybe not illegal but thats an oversight on the part of all relevant authorities). Why exactly are you condoning people paying $5 so that they can 'play' for 12 hours a day and make $15? If you don't think this is the biggest problem in the world then your right, but in RUNESCAPE it is a significant problem that has adverse effects on everyone playing.

I will not go into depth but at the moment in China there is a massive migration from villages/countryside to towns/cities, thusly there is a significant difference between jobs available and people requiring jobs, so there is a large number of people without jobs. This has absolutely nothing to do with ME or anyone playing Runescape, this is completely the fault of the WORKERS PARTY, which has and always will treat lower castes as pieces of [cabbage]. Don't try and lay blame at our door for the failings of the Chinese 'government'.

Next time I've decided to steal bread from someone to feed myself, let me know if it's okay or not. -.-
