Barihawk, I'd vote for you.

One thing, instead of making it easier to get into schools. Why not make more schools? And perhaps raise the salary of teachers and professors.

What's funny is that all of you say you will vote for me, but I pretty much just summed up the goals of the Republican Party :P.

Almost all of my points are conservative in nature :D.

Nay, I vote for the candidate, not the party. There are good democrats and bad democrats just as there are good republicans and bad republicans.

So is this a what-would-your-platforms-be-to-get-elected thing, or are we already in power at the time? If I'm already in power, if you're a seriously democratic person, you may want to sit down. First off, I'de abolish all religion. None of it anywhere under penalty of law. All forms of media would be taken over and run by me (not me personally, kind of a bureacratic thing, but nobody in any department would know what the other departments [or others in their own department] are doing, so it limits their power :D ), thrown in a little bit of restriction on the freedom of authors (not a Fahrenheit 451 thing, books wouldn;t be banned...just the political types), install security (alarms for keeping out criminals and cameras for monitoring), rid myself of political adversaries, take drastic steps against illegal immigration (minefields at the border, electric fences, etc.), all while reducing unemployment (somebody has to watch the cameras, government jobs, etc). So there you have it. Oh yea, and amp up the military budget, just a lil' bit. That's pretty much it, I guess.

I will lead the resistance.

You're a conservative, and I'm a socialist. Yet, we both would be heading the resistance.

As for me, (thinking about it from a non-US perpective, I'd say:

-Abolition of draft, gradually reducing military spending (think about 2.5% a year), gradual withdrawal of troops in foreign lands.

-If the country doesn't have one, an obligatory payment of a percentage of every salary that goes to a common Social Security Fund, which will sustain a gradual universalization of healthcare, through state hospitals and clinics. Also, private healthcare providers are to be taxed to support public healthcare.

-Abolition of tax shelters for the rich, if the country has.

-Establishing state banks (keeping the private banks) that will provide low interest loans for housing and small business.

-A price top for the most basic products.

[Edit]The most basic products and services (I know there's a specific phrase for this, but I can't find it) would be the ones that most/all of the population (including the lower classes) need; like bread, milk, water, meat, eggs (this list would vary a lot depending on the location). I'd set a maximum price for these necessary products/services, which would allow any worker with a minimum wage to live on it.

This signature is intentionally left blank.

-A price top for the most basic products.

Can you expand/clarify that? I'm not sure what exactly you mean/intend.

"The only way to avoid packaging the water would be to deliver it to people's homes and places of business through some sort of amazingly intricate and complex series of reservoirs, pumping stations, pipes . . . hey, wait a second.."

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

That sounds quite good. The media have much, much too much influence on the public.

I would have operative clauses that aren't vague so stuff actually gets done. We ARE withdrawing from Iraq.

@above Guess free speech isn't too high up on your values list huh?

2. The state doesn't control the supply of marijuana, if it becomes decriminalized, it'd still mean dealers reap huge profits from a product which can't be even taxed. If it becomes taxed, dealers will sell it for a lower price on black markets without paying the tax, benefiting both the buyer and dealer.

If the state can't enforce the taxation of a substance, thus earn revenue from it's distribution, they will criminalize it. They couldn't care less about your health, it's the 20-30% tax cut they want that they can't get.

Not true. Where I come from(Ontario) we have the LCBO(Liquor control board of Ontario), created after Prohibition was ended. The government controlled the sale of alcohol, selling it only in LCBO stores, and they taxed it. I don't believe there is a large market for moonshine now, meaning the government managed to keep control over the sale of alcohol.

So is this a what-would-your-platforms-be-to-get-elected thing, or are we already in power at the time? If I'm already in power, if you're a seriously democratic person, you may want to sit down. First off, I'de abolish all religion. None of it anywhere under penalty of law.

No. Just imagine how all the religious zealots in your country would react! They would be suicide bombing things left and right! Plus, how would you regulate this? Are you going to attach a InvisibleFence collar around the necks of every citizen in your country and whenever the so much as utter the word 'God' or something along those lines they are shocked? Plus, simply because you make religion illegal doesn't mean it eliminates religion altogether, people still believe in stuff, they just can express their beleifs..

All forms of media would be taken over and run by me (not me personally, kind of a bureacratic thing, but nobody in any department would know what the other departments [or others in their own department] are doing, so it limits their power :D )

Yeah, ban everything that's contrary to your opinion, why won't you! Just like 1984.. oh wait I forgot, books like 1984 can't exist in your country.. -.-

-Pull the troops out of Iraq. It's a sad conflict that's a lost cause, I'm afraid.

-Get rid of the Patriot Act and No Child Left Behind.

-Increase the budget of schools and Social Security.

-No more insurance companies. The government takes care of health insurance and distributes it equally amongst the populace, while paying the doctors.

-Implement the One-Child Act, like China.

-bring back the government work programs for the unemployed.

-Keep abortion legal

-Legalize gay marriage.

-Break up companies such as Walmart, McDonalds, and Microsoft.

Like you were saying on the Iraq War, it wouldn't be an overnight process. Decriminalization would take some time before it can work well. If marijuana was taxed and sold at a decent price, especially if the potency was high, the black market for weed would slowly fade out.

One interesting article claims that the pot prohibition in America costs taxpayers more than $40 billion dollars every year. More than $10 billion of that sum is spent on enforcing the prohibition.

Being an Australian, I'd like to focus on water policy, namely -

- more dams where necessary and, of course, only if applicable.

- more water recycling plants. The science has spoken - it's safe and the 'yuk factor' can stay with those ignorant of how safe it is.

- more desalination for the major cities if applicable.

- programs to focus on water saving - water tank subsidies, advertising programs, home water wise service subsidies. The evidence is in these strategies being used in my home city of Brisbane. We've become the most water frugal city (a city of 2 million people, mind you) in the developed world.

- Strict watchkeeping on business to ensure they are saving water where they can and not wasting it.

Just for good measure, I'll throw in a power policy, global warming being such a hot topic at the moment -

- a shift to nuclear, geothermal, solar and wind for baseload power over coal by 2050.

- research into the viability of geothermal and the development of more and more efficient, and thus cheaper, solar power technologies.

- subsidies for home solar panels.

- research into hydrogen powered car technologies - solar powered 'petrol' stations to use electricity for electrolysis of water into H2 and O2 for fueling cars. See how that pans out. Also, research into hydrogen storage via chemical complexes under pressure to drastically reduce leakage, storage space and energy needed for gas compression.

First thing I'd do if I was a politician would be to have my head surgically removed from my [wagon].

That's an unfair comparison, and I'm sure you recognise that. The impact of an illegal immigrant is far less damaging than that of a serial killer. Just because they're both against the law, doesn't mean they're both just as bad.
