Alright, let me paint a picture for everybody. You're in the middle of a field, with a few trees. About 100 yards away from you are 8 zombies heading at you. 75 yards away are 3 raiders, armed with shotguns. About 200 yards away are about a dozen zombies, who don't appear to notice you. What guns would help you the most here?

 

Now, your biggest threat is the raiders. You need to take them out before you even touch the zombies. If you only had a .22, you're screwed, unless you get lucky, or the raiders are absolute cowards. You need a decent medium range weapon to take out the raiders. A shotgun would be useless too, because if you get close enough to kill one of them, they're all going to kill you first. But, something quiter would be useful, so you don't attract the other zombies.

 

My point, basically, is that different guns are useful for different scenarios. A shotgun against raiders with only melee weapons? Great. A .22 against raiders? Bad.

 

For me, my ideal aresenal would be a shotgun, assult rifle, sniper, and a 22. And perhaps a handgun if I can get my hands on one. Have a gun for each scenario - but make sure it doesn't weigh you down.

You wouldn't really want a sniper, since it would take a long time to set up properly.

Or you can use a P90 with a scilencer, shoot the raiders with burst, switch to auto and kill the nearby zombies then switch to semi and snipe the far away zombies.

Personally, I think I'd look for someone to ride shotgun in a pickup (a la the trader truck in "The Colony"), which I would load my supplies into and mount a gat on.

i know. its still what i would do. if i didnt die, then id go and look for some place to make my lair, and research making zombie killing monsters. im insane, so any idea i come up with should be regareded without suprise. also, even if i do die, if there are any other survivors with me, i could help em escape.

There is a difference between insanity and stupidity. You are clearly the latter in this situation.

 

Also, to be able to decapitate a person with a katana in one swing would take at least 5 years of training. I doubt you have 5 years of training.

 

An axe, would take far to long to swing, and after one blow you'd get bitten.

 

A frying pan: Hurrrrrr.

i know. i use LFD2 concepts. now be quiet. i would still pack a gun with me. would only use the mele weapons for close combat.

The only melee weapon you should need is a trench spike. It's light, and perfect for destroying zombies and easy removal.

i know. but i like frying pan. you dont need to remove that

But it's heavier and unwieldly. It also has no gaurantee of a killing blow.

 

The trench spike is by far the most effective close combat weapon, unless you want utility as well, in which case a titanium crowbar is good.

jeez. i like hitting things with a frying pan. if it does nothing else, itll hurt things. i can also use a katana on those that survive the pan blam.

Romero zombies don't feel pain. It'll take you too long to use the katana after hitting something with a frying pan, giving you a high chance of getting bitten.

Actually, Ross, good Katanas can cut sideways through as many as five bodies. It wouldn't be too hard for anyone to decapitate someone with one. Admittedly, training would help significantly. I've seen people slice arrows in midair that would otherwise have killed them (if they were pointed normally, these were slightly blunted) in a training session.

Sounds like you've probably had little-no use of one. Seriously, it is so difficult to use. How do you think it became the symbol of mastery it is today?

 

It's pretty much magikarp power. You'll flail around uselessly and be absolutely hopeless at first, regardless of the quality of your weapon, but then after 5+ years of training, it becomes an extension of your own body and you could probably cleave through several bodies at once, or a lump of steel.

 

Coming from somebody who actually tried, and gave up within about 3 months due to not being able to do what I expected and cut through a plank of wood.
