Clan Chat

Now personally i don't really look for something to rant about but this one jumped on me like a hawk...

 

 

 

The clan chat system is fine and i like it a lot but there is just one problem that i feel can be easily fixed. Say that you want a name like "Guthix Globetrotters" or "Guthix Council" it won't let you have all of the name. Due to the letter limits.

 

 

 

Now i think this is a bit unfair, not letting us have our dream name for our clan. Now many would say "Use initials!" and yes many could. But would the initials GG or GC sufice? I don't think so.

 

 

 

Now i understand why Jagex brought in this letter limit. If you had a really long clan name then there wouldn't be much room to type in a message. Now the solution gets more and more complicated as you look at the problem more. The only way really to solve it would be to let you type but have 2 lines of space rather than the traditional one.

 

 

 

But then again that raises more problems. Such as lag and overall screen space.

 

 

 

So many would tell me "Why the hell have you just wrote this to bring up an insane problem that may never be fixed?!" The answer to that my friend may never be answered but i think this is a real issue, just no-one sees it yet...

Did you read the post? He's ranting about it... Yeah, it sounds like a pain if a clan called Guthix Council had to be a 'GC'.

The problem is because the clan chat name is the line identifier in the dialogue/chat window. If they would use a different line identifier (maybe an asterisks?) instead of the clan name, the character limit would be less restrictive.

Good idea, maybe you should do a well thought out suggestion thread with diagrams and everything. Might get alot of support that way.

You kinda went in a big circle in what you were saying. But i do agree that sometimes having 1 or 2 letters not fitting in the clan name really annoys me.

and it didn't have enough space on the clanchat! Never mind the space needed for chat, who needs space to chat in a clan chat? The name is super important :roll:

it;s not a good idea, he has no good ideas in there. Any ideas he comes up with he points out the flaws himself.

You insult him for being unbiased? :-k Most people get complimented for being unbiased, guess that doesn't work that way here?

 

 

 

Anyways, like you said their are to many problems for this to work properly. If you could think of a way to overcome those problems I would like to see it.

I don't think that is what he meant, He obviously means that you have enough room to type a decent sized message

Why do you think the name of your clan chat is so important? If people in your clan need to be reminded what their clan's name is via the chat, you my friend have much bigger issues to attend to. :wink:

 

 

 

If your clan name is too long, it's going to take up too much room in the chat dialogue box, and everyone's text is going to get cut off. That's why they imposed a limit on the number of characters you can use. I guess Jagex assumed a measure to prevent messages from getting cut off was a good tradeoff for limited clan name space, considering the actual name of the clan shouldn't be imperative to the chat feature.
