Silk Road Online

That's right. This topic is for those who play or want information on how to play Silk Road Online (SRO). Silk Road is a Free-To-Play game which can be played from their official site, http://www.silkroadonline.net.

Setting

SRO is a MMORPG set in China, and based on the network of trade routes that are the Silk Road. You start off by choosing your Nationality, either Chinese or European, which both have their advantages and disadvantages. You then choose from a selection of pre-prepared characters, all hoping to make it big on the Silk Road. You then choose your starting weapon and clothing type. These change the starting game play, but they can be altered throughout the game. A major difference between the Chinese and European races is that the European races dictate what you can wear by what level you are, or your mastery in Skills.

Cities

Both China and Europe are connected on separate ends of the map, and are connected by a series of caves and ocean routes. There are five main cities in the game, interspersed through 7 sectors, these are: Constantinople, Samarkand, Downhang, Jangan and Hotan. These areas have monsters of differing levels. These cities are safe from Monsters, and PvP fights (Thieves V Hunters or Merchants). These contain Stables, Guild Managers, Weapon Traders, Armour Traders, Specialty Stores, Potion Store and General Stores. These are also the only places to set up stalls, where players can buy items from other players.

Combat

Chinese Combat System

China's Combat System varies from Europe's Combat System, having three Weapon Mastery Categories, which are: Bicheon (Swordsmanship), Heuksal (Spearsmanship) and Pacheon (Bowsmanship). The higher these skills get the more damage and skills you can achieve with their respective weaponry. It also has 4 Force Categories, which compliment the Weaponry Skills, these are Fire, which increases damage, burns, and increases attack power and magical defence, Lightning, which decreases the enemies Parry Ratio (Ability to block), and also contains skills that increase your movement speed and Parry Ratio, Cold, which can freeze and damage your opponent, as well as increasing your physical attack and defence against both styles of attack.

European Combat System

Europe̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Combat System is more Skill based. There are 3 Character Categories, each divided into 2 sub-categories. These are Warrior, which contains the Warrior and Rogue classes, Caster, which holds the Wizard and Warlock classes and Buffer, which has both the Bard and Cleric classes. The Warrior Class use their increased HP and high damage dealing to take the hits for the rest of the party. Rogue classes use a wide variety of Stealth Skills to deal high damage and move undetected through enemy forces. In the Caster class, Wizards do extremely high damage using the four elements. Warlocks inflict Status Effects on their enemies, which inhibits their aim, damage, and movement, as well as dealing constant damage. The Buffer Category is the main Support Group, containing the Bard, which can increase the Party̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s speed, decrease their MP consumption and increase the damage dealt by the Party. The Cleric, on the other hand, cures Effects, Heals and Resurrects Paralysed players.

Professions

Once the player has reached Level 20, they are allowed to join one of three Guilds. These are the Traders, which utilize Transport to take items to other continents and sell them at higher prices to gain profit, Thieves, who attack these transports to take the items, and Hunters, who are hire by the Traders to protect them from Thieves while they transport their goods. At Level 20, you can also engage in PvP fights against other Level 20 players and ride horses, which increase your speed greatly and stops you from being damaged. The difficulty of the Trader̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s trip depends on the value of his cargo, which is based on a star rating of 1 to 5. Trader̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s between the levels of 20-40 carrying a load of 1 Star value cannot be attacked by player Thieves. But, instead of player Thieves, NPC Thieves are randomly generated to fight for the cargo. To combat this, NPC Hunters are there as well. NPC Thieves and Hunters appear no matter what level you are and the value of your cargo, however.

Alchemy

There is also Alchemy, a Skill where you can combine items to enhance your weaponry and armour. Though, there is a chance that the Alchemy can fail, and your item maybe be permanently damaged or lose its effectiveness.

I'm also thinking of doing up a Server List if it turns out a lot of people play this game.

So, discuss your adventures in SRO! :D

P.S My first Thread, wewt.

I tried it before... a long time ago. It looked pretty but became incredibly boring in credibly quickly. It seemed that all the quests where either kill X monsters of a certain type or gather x amount of items dropped by a certain type of monster.

Yeah, it can get kind of dull until you reach Level 20, but after that I find it's quite fun, Trading and Thieving and stuff like that.

I've played, in two different segments. Around March of this year, I started playing for the first time. At the time, it was China only. So anyways...I was an Ice Bicheon if I remember correctly. I started hybriding with Lightning and Force later on. I never reached level 20, I got bored way too fast.

Then, a few months ago, in August, Europe came out. I started playing, as a Cleric, and had more fun than in China. I managed to reach level 20 this time, but by then, I was on the verge of quitting, and did before my first caravan.

To sum it up...Silkroad is another of those kill and make money games. You do nothing else. Not even the quests offer a little variety. I haven't checked, but the China vs. Europe war thingy hasn't come out, has it? If not, then PKing is terrible. I suppose alchemy is kind of interesting, but until you get to the good boosts, it's not that good.

I suppose thinking about it makes me kind of want to play again. Might go back for a few caravans once in a while.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to say what server/names.

Both are on Venice.
