December 27, 200718 yr hey, i didn't even know what miniclip was until i started reading the rants on these forums. (not that this is one) I just think it's weird that all the blame gets placed on one thing usually.
December 27, 200718 yr i didnt even know miniclip advertised rs till last year and didnt no ppl thought runescape was run escape till this year, i made my first account 3 years ago b/c it looked fun and a lot of ppl played it
December 28, 200718 yr A G R E E D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! about 4 years ago, when rs2 JUST came out, i began playing runescape i was 1 of the ppl who thot it was run-escape until about 6months later rs used to be the game wen only 2-3 ppl in ur school plays/knows about and mini-clip changed this, now there is only like 2-3 ppl who dont play rs. wen i first started, a guy named coolster36 gave me free iron armor and explained to me in detail about armor types. he is still a friend although he barely plays. i went into varrok that same day and wanted to know where to buy a new wepon, i only had 50 gp, but hey, you never know wat u can get. a guy showed it to me, i dont know his username or nething bout him. this was b4 mini clip. now if u go to varrok as a lvl 3 with a name like ajay red 911(my original acc) and asking about nething from where shops r to wat the highest lvl is, ppl will say "nub, noob, newb, newbie, bew be" and than get into a fight "lern to type noob, its noob not newb" and so on. now think about nyc, there r a lot of ppl there, good and bad, the mor ppl, the mor bad ppl r in, therefore the more scammers, beggers, hackers, noob-callers, cheat users, etc. came ppl that r rich in real life made sites about things like auto bots or how to do a quest(auto site = bad, quest sites = good) so now, rs is filled with mor ppl with mor demands and now jagex is full of updates and stuff. wen i started, 2 mor ausy servers was HUGE, but now, 10 mor worlds were aded and it wasnt even mensioned on the homepage, i mean seriously. mini-clip also started the runescape or club penguin thing. both are on mini clip, c.p. is only accesed on mini-clip, but rs isnt. so now club penguin ppl r tryi0ng out rs and doin little things like snowball fights in w1, to remind them of c.p. and this makes trading server unnessesarily full and laggier. now lets talk about who plays mini-clip, 11-14 year olds, now these ppl r i guess smart, mini-clip being the "hit thing" for those ages i guess...... well so then these ppl thot about taking advantage of these little ppl and made pures, these dont get banned but r just amazing in the wild well, R.I.P. old runescapel, i miss you like crazy
December 28, 200718 yr The only good thing I can think about Jagex advertising RS on minicclip is More Members = More money More Money = More updates and Modz.
December 28, 200718 yr well obviously from jagex's point of view having rs being advertised on miniclip was a very good business opportunity for them, seeing that the number of accounts increased dramatically and they broke their record for having the most number of players online at any one time. ive played rs for 5 years now and when i first started the community was much smaller but the people were generally more well-behaved. of course there was the occasional bad apple but that didnt cause the rest of the populace to act like them. pkers (well i guess this part doesnt apply to rs anymore zzz) were more sporting: they either complimented the other party or didnt say anything at all. and i remember when i first started some stranger gave me 10k just like that to buy full black with black 2h. 10k might not seem a lot now but back then when i first started and before all this inflation took place it was quite a bit for me. i feel that the reason why players could have become more aggressive, unfriendly, less sociable or whatever you like to call it is due to the increase in the number of people playing rs, meaning more competition. there are more people occupying good training spots, more people cutting your favourite tree, more people to share your mining spot with etc. it is inevitable that with more people living in the same space greater conflict will occur. yes jagex has indeed increased the number of worlds and area of rs tremendously but the influx of new players coming in, especially with the advertisement on miniclip, might be too much for them to keep up with. back then when i first started in rs1, there were only around 5 hill giant spawns at the edgeville dungeon and even then there was more than enough for everyone. if we want the gaming society to be more friendly perhaps it would be good to start from yourself as it is much easier to change yourself than to change someone else. so if everybody would just play their part and do their "good deed for the day" im sure rs would become a much better place ;) and even though ive come a long way from where i since started and achieved much (119 cb, 1849 total), i continue to treat everyone fairly, be it the high lvls or low lvls, rich or poor, experienced or first-timers. maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cookinglife may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?my fake plant died because i forgot to pretend to water it
December 28, 200718 yr I've been playing since around 2001-2002 off and on, i started at 8-9 i beleive. runescape has never been perfect, i agree it was better in rsc and before, but its been logner thena eyar since it was ifnested. now i try to help people when i can. it is rare to meet someone really nice, but i know someone who when their bored they go around in f2p giving away stuff. The problem lies with who we first tlaked to at the start of runescape. i started palying in a library and the kids there wuldnt help me, so i was like what a#sholes. then i was meaner to kids that where worse then me. it starts with being nicer to new players although they can be really annoying. Feabdrt
December 28, 200718 yr I have to say I discovered Runescape through Addictinggames and from that Miniclip. I had played it a little bit before, but I really started playing it after in 2004. I have noticed a decline in the maturity of the average player, but I don't think we can completely contribute that to Miniclip. Sure it is a more kid friendly site, but not everyone entering from there was an annoying child. I certainly am not. In my case though I was linked to Miniclip, it's not like I went there on purpose. I do see where you are coming from though. Miniclip was able to bring in more people to the game than Jagex could do alone. You have to admit that Jagex has certainly made the game much more kid-friendly though. They have all the warnings so ignorant children don't do something stupid, some monsters have been made "cuter,' crazy censoring restrictions and more kid-friendly themes. I have been playing long enough though to notice changes. There are definitely more beggars, scammers, macros and general noobs, but I don't think it's quite as "world-threatening" as you think. The only thing in that could be the macroers, but do you really honestly think Miniclip itself has "killed" the game. I don't. I don't want to really support Miniclip because most every game on there is terrible (with the exception of Heli Attack), but it's only that I was introduced to this game that I'm doing it. Heres a hammer, some planks and a few nails, now all you gotta do is build a bridge and get over it. Id Suge- Latin for "Suck It"
December 28, 200718 yr Lumbridge was full of people asking for cyber. :innocent: No joke there either. I remember during my newbie days on RSC... I actually walked in on two people trying to "get it on" in Varrock Castle. Runescape has always been filled with jerks. I remember training down at the skeletons in Varrock Sewers and random jerks would always come down picking fights... some of which would actually follow me when I changed worlds. And back then it was harder to hide since there weren't even half as many servers as there are now. So putting them on ignore did absolutely nothing half the time. Has it amplified? Maybe. Nothing has really changed to me, it's just all the more apparent now because of the mass numbers. Really, looking back, most of the things I experienced on RSC are far more worse then anything I've recently experienced since coming back to the game. Worse case scenario is I get some random low level follow me around, but there are so many ways to lose them now that they aren't even a problem (no method has caused me to go out of my way to lose anyone yet either). There are other games that will be suffering from Miniclip, heck some already have. Puzzle Pirates being one of them. That game could be so much more fun, but some of the newbies have no patcience on sails and usually only stick around for like one battle... and will bail if you lose a battle... it's actually more rediculous then anything that goes on with RS. And the maturity level on a game such as Puzzle Pirates actually effects not just one individual at a given time, but a whole crew of players. Runescape players have it pretty good by comparison. R.I.P Shiva
December 28, 200718 yr I dont even know wat miniclip is #-o but i started playing when i was 8 or was it 9? but know i know almost everything about runescape thanks to tip it and i hav a fairly good player now. But when u say that barly anyone is trustworthy i hav a friend and he gav me free full addy in return i gav him a good way to make money and im 11 now and im a f2per and i already know my way around the members world  and i hav never seen lumbridge on a server with more than 1500 ppl without some1 autotalking a site i want them all to shut up!! :-# and the autoers they are just lazy slobs who want to make an easy living in runescape and then they start playing with 10mil+ and theres the rs money sites good thing is they will be put out of buisness \ bad things they are selling more and more since they know their goners :( and the update has put sharing in the trash can  but theres always going to be scammers and autoers and beggars we just hav to live with it -.- thank you
December 28, 200718 yr great point! the minclipers being jerks thing is waay too stereotypical. i give people free stuff all the time if they need it, get em where theyre going, so on so forth and im a miniclipper. my best friend is a miniclipper and he recently gave gave me full guthans and 1 mil! so i think this article brings up a good point. currently going for 99 wcing....not very close. p.s. im a forum noob so i have no idea how to put a cool pic or link here =(
December 28, 200718 yr hmmm nice read...but not all of the younger players are like that, i must say im 15. my spelling and grammer arnt the best but i dont walk around showing off my lvs or putting lower lvs down, infact should some1 ask for a law rune or help on a quest im the first 2 jump in and say yeah sure man no probz nice read but rember not all of the players are like that. pking is dead....*sob sob*
December 28, 200718 yr i found out about the game from miniclip and i can easily say i am a "decent" player. so no dont blame only miniclip.
December 28, 200718 yr Like many theories about how rs "downgraded" to Noob-vile, this seems to be the more popular, but pointless theory. Especially since they can't back their theory up. I've played RSC when it first came out, and it wasn't a paradise. There was plenty of scammers, rule-breakers, annoying people, etc. Also, the most important fact is that the majority during these years stayed as faithful, true players.. (even today, you can find a very nice person or two). The Miniclip blaimers are probably close to becoming the most annoying people since they can't even back up their theory and instead, blame it on Jagex, Miniclip, kids, parents, etc. We should euthanize anyone who lacks the capability to contribute to society in any way. Please don't elect this man for president in 2012
December 28, 200718 yr advertising the game on miniclip didnt bring all bad players, if it wasnt advertised on miniclip i would have never discovered a great game, neither would many of my friends. advertising on miniclip brought along new members, which in turn started to make jagex more money, and the money was used for new game improvements.
December 28, 200718 yr I don't blame Miniclip. I blame Yahoo and Google. Someone hears of Runescape from word-of-mouth (Or just general chatter, or even from a Newspaper) then searches it on a search engine. Runescape was the 3rd most searched thing on Yahoo Search about a month back, and was the 6th on Google about the same time, which is also when I noticed a strangely large influx of idiots into the game. (Who then promptly left after the Wildy/Trade update.)
December 28, 200718 yr I agree, Miniclip has flooded RuneScape with immature kids (Mostly younger than 10), who by right aren't even supposed to be playing the game! Its a reflection of real societies I guess, like most MMO's are.
December 28, 200718 yr I started playing I believe about 7 years ago when i was 5 years old. Over the time I had made about 4 or 5 accounts, sincei seemed to 4get each one everyday... Rs1 was quite nice back then, as much as i can remember, not a single person has asked, "money plz", or, "I was hacked gimme money"...It was good... now that I'm 13 years old, i see at least 3 people keep saying, "give me money!" In fact, yesterday, some guy just came up to me and said, " im poor, can i have your d spear so i can sell it?" after that he kept following me around asking for it (if only i could kill him, then demolish his grave...with a maul...) you see, I can't say if miniclip is a problem, but I do agree that Rs has gotten much...what's the word? WORSE :boohoo: over the years of my life...Such a tragic incident i say. By the way, did someone say that RS was posted as an 8-year mag in schoolastics?? When they fall, run, run while you can!!!the clouds are coming!!!
December 28, 200718 yr Hi guys ive noticed that you called 12 year olds immature noobs well im 12 and im a level 75 i dotn think im a noob anymore but i agree miniclip has FLOODED runescape and i have run out of room on my ignore list and im never going to lummy in full rune again the N00BS :ohnoes: !!!!!!!!!!! anyway if any1 has a clan thatll accept a level 75 with full ruen and d long message me in runescape. wall to runescape --> :wall: <-- a stupid n00b the above stuff is TM dont steal it Wall to Runescape --> :wall: <-- a stupid N00B
December 29, 200718 yr Jagex is to blame for this. They were the ones who agreed to let Miniclip link to them. I'm sure we would all like to link to RuneScape if we could. Jagex also doesn't think anything else. I bet the whole Summoning skill will turn out to be a huge dud. I mean, look at what happened to me. I don't know how, but someone got ahold of my password and now I'm stuck with a lvl. 3 noob account. I never ever beg. The only time I ever get free stuff is when somebody offers it to me. I had a lvl. 35 (which is a big accomplishment for what small amount I played), but now its ruined. Now people are treating RuneScape like it is real life. If you want to have a life like RuneScape, take a knife from the cupboard and start chucking it at birds. Seriously, it's just a game. Now people are doing whatever it takes to get their hands on people like Yogosun's and Zezima's account. I even know a kid who snuck on the computer at night just to play RuneScape. He didn't do anything but get a bunch of iron and a little mining xp. Join the LoFS
December 29, 200718 yr I don't think that people should blame it on the young people entirely. I'm 11 and I am pretty mature.(I don't scam, beg, whine.) Also, I think at some points the high levels are worse than some of the lower levels becasue they think that they have the right to call everyone no0bs because they are level 110. Although I do agree that people who are young are a big problem. Also I do think that Miniclip in a way brought many immature people to the game. I have been on other MMORPGs and they complain that the runescapians are coming and they're going to ruin the community. I don't think that they entirely know what they're talking about and they should go somewhere besides Lumbridge to find examples. Though I remember like 3 years ago someone gave me 30k when I was chopping willows. I really don't think that would happen now. I really wish there was a wall like this... Runescape.com :wall: annoying Noob
December 29, 200718 yr I've been playing since Jagex started RS and there's all ways been scammers etc. And there always been nice people. I blame the parents for not teaching their kids any manners. "Its a reflection of real societies I guess, like most MMO's are."~MicroLegionnaire So true.
December 29, 200718 yr I first found Runeascape in 2001 when I was 10, I saw my brother playing it. Back then, TBH it was a pretty terrible game. I came back in 2004 when I was allowed to play by my parents, and I found a fantastic game, not noob free but nothing to what it is now. Gold farmers were rare, and jagex actually cared about its players. Sometime not long after that, RS went up on Miniclip and it all changed. F2P worlds filled up with abuse, begging and the like. Do I wish RS wasn't on miniclip? No. But Miniclip should of put up a warning that you had to be 13, then some sort of test for your birthday. Atleast you'd weed out the stupidest 10 year olds. Jagex don't see a stupid 10 year old ruining our game, they just see the dollar signs of membership or ad revenue. I don't mind being on Miniclip, back in 04 or 05, whenever it was, it was a way for jagex to keep the game running. I believe RS is off miniclip now, and good =P
December 29, 200718 yr Sorry, but this is one of those obsessive-compulsive things I have to do. ~Before~ I have been playin runescape for about a year now when i first started playing everyone was really kind and nice and the word noob was rarely used. varrock sq used to be full of people all lvls helping each other out it wasnt rare for a high lvl player to help out a lvl 3 the game wasnt about who had done the most quests or who had the highest lvls it was bout helpin ppl makin friends nd just avin a nice time on the computer. But now a year later that has all but vanished. There is no peace anymore Noob is the most common word in the Runescape dictionary people ask for help and they get called a noob there are no more helping other ppl u cnt even trust ur own friend ne more as you think theyll scam u. WHY HAS THE PEOPLE OF RUNESCAPE CHANGED? ~After~ I have been playing RuneScape for about a year now. When I first started, everyone was really kind and nice and the word "noob" was rarely used. Varrock Square used to be full of people of all levels helping each other out; it wasn't rare to see a high-level player help out a level 3 player. The game wasn't about who had done the most quests or who had the highest skill levels, it was about helping people, making friends, and just having a nice time on the computer. But now, a year later, that has all but remained. There is no more peace, "noob" is the most common word in Runescape, people ask for help and they get called a "noob," no one helps others, you can't even trust your own friend anymore, as you think they'll scam you. WHY DOTH HATH THE PEOPLES OF RUNESCAPIAE CHANGED-ETH? His worst errors were: the excruciatingly long second and fourth sentences, "... all but vanished," and my personal favorite, "WHY HAS THE PEOPLE..." By the way, other impulses of mine include closing doors, scooting in chairs, and cutting off the dead parts of plants. I'm that weird. Hyt Chat FOREVERI have quit RuneScape. I have posted on the Leaving sticky saying so. Goodbye."Too late... my time has come... gotta leave you all behind and face the truth."~ Freddie Mercury ~
December 29, 200718 yr I've been playing for about three years now. And when i joined there were noobs, beggers and such. Man, I was even one of them back then. But I think it's best to have that in Runescape. It teaches us the facts of life, no one is safe all the time, people do hurt you at times and there are those who try to tak advantage of you. I remember when i first started playing this guy tried to scam me with the drop your item and press F7 and you'll duplicate your item. I tried it and lucky for me MSN said "Are you sure you wish to exit the web brower?" even with that popping up twice I still didn't know what that scammer was trying to do until the next day. Getting scammed in this game as taught me to be cautious and observant. It has saved me from real pain, I'd happily give up all my items in Runescape than falling in love with a girl that was just using me. But because i learned not to trust eveyone I have saved myself much trouble. The curse of noobs may in fact be a gift of truth. Of course I was mad when i lost 12m,32m, and my first full black set. But I have regained all of it. Besides Runescape is just a game to relax in and to escape the hardships of everyday life.
December 29, 200718 yr I wouldnt say runescape was ruined by miniclip. Many people are just looking for a shortcut in the game, like anyone, they want to take a shortcut in life and be able to reap the benefits without hard work. Why work hard for your money when you could just beg/scam for it? Being someone who has gotten 91 rc (previous account) i know how hard making good money can be, and i can see why some people beg and scam. They do not want to have to rc till their arms fall off. And like any humanist would say, when our perfection is tested or society views us differently than how we view ourselves, the mind creates defensive barriers. AKA, wen kids see people better than them or they are insulted, they will call you a noob/hacker/nolifer/fr00b/rwt/nerd/geek/well....you get the idea Nice article though it was a very relaxing read Retired after 2 accounts and 8 years of scapin...2 accounts over 2,000 total...may my life rest in peaceBrawl Code:5327-0581-3706
