Rs2: Blaming Miniclip For All The Evils Of Runescape

Featured Replies

Miniclip didn't ruin Runescape, Jagex did by putting it on Miniclip. (I don't agree that Runescape is ruined at all by the way).

it's true, runescape used to be an amazing game before miniclip advertized it.

I remember when i first started, i figured i would smith all my armor for when i level up.

I was smithing iron, and i was one level short on full iron, so i asked a person to smith me something, as i didnt have the level required, and bam, he was like sure, here you go.

granted, ive lost touch with him, cause he quit, but he was my 1st friend in rs, im not sure if any of you knew him, but his name was false gods.

and i remember getting help on quests from friends and random people, and a few of my friends at the time of the tourist trap quest coming out, we all did it together :)

those were the good days, but im finding new friends that are just as good now, so it is turning into a "silver" age of rs, cause it's getting better, but not as good as it was when it was first out...

The golden age of Runescape

Long ago and far away in a land that time has forgotten there was a game called Runescape, which people eventually realized was NOT Run-escape but Rune-scape. In this fair land all were good, true, loyal, brave and polite.

Miniclip ends the Age of Innocence

Then came the evil known as Miniclip. Runescape was listed as the best free online world on this site. And lo! Evil newbies poured forth in uncountable numbers from tutorial island. The once fair land of Runescape was covered in darkness. Thenceforth good was vanquished forevermore. Scammers, beggars, trash talkers and the like now ruled the once fair Lumbridge.

What is Meili babbling about this time???

Well, in plainer talk, there is currently a feeling or popular idea that the old Runescape used to be good until it was advertised in Miniclip, which caused it to be flooded with annoying 12 year olds. An example of this is this quote from Tip It:

I have been playin runescape for about a year now when i first started playing everyone was really kind and nice and the word noob was rarely used. varrock sq used to be full of people all lvls helping each other out it wasnt rare for a high lvl player to help out a lvl 3 the game wasnt about who had done the most quests or who had the highest lvls it was bout helpin ppl makin friends nd just avin a nice time on the computer. But now a year later that has all but vanished. There is no peace anymore Noob is the most common word in the Runescape dictionary people ask for help and they get called a noob there are no more helping other ppl u cnt even trust ur own friend ne more as you think theyll scam u. WHY HAS THE PEOPLE OF RUNESCAPE CHANGED?

I, for one, do not recall Runescape ever being noob-or-child-free. Never has everyone been always friendly and nice to me. Am I actually playing a different game from the person I quoted above? There have *always* been beggars, scammers, noobs, etc. for as long as I have been playing.

The close friends I had back then were 12 (Who Da Best, ranked 3rd in combat hiscores) and Grubyyyyyyy. More than half of the players were kids. Lumbridge was full of people asking for cyber. :innocent:

Try looking at my website and what you see there are people abusing bugs in the wilderness and what not. Scammers roamed freely and Jagex had to take several steps to reduce the number of their victims (ex. second trade screen, changing the look of bronze long sword so it doesn't look similar to drag long, etc.).

Don't get me wrong, Rs was great then. We had a good community and everyone knew each other. However, it was NOT a noob-free paradise were everyone was nice and kind to everyone else. Such a place does not exist on the internet.

Postcript: This was also posted on RSC where I had a disappointing (but half-expected result) with only half of the posters actually reading the first post. I'm betting Tip It will be better than that so don't disappoint me! This is from my blog

I loved runescape, screw run escape , and especially screw the later version rs2.

It seems that yet again the original message of the post has been lost or misunderstood by some. :P Oh well, the same thing happens in other forums when I cross-posted. Most of the replies here were better than in other forums so it's still good.

Runescape was always in a struggle against the less desirable groups of online gamers however with the flood of Miniclipper's and their lack of maturity from being underaged, the good Scapers began to lose their ground. With other players they were at least mature enough to realize that scamming isn't good, there are people behind the screen. Refusing help isn't good, they'll never move forwards. They would change as long as we offered them the help they needed, and we did, in order to improve the game. But the Miniclipper's refused help, insisted on their way of doing things even though it wouldn't work, insisted on their prices because they just didn't have the money require but they really needed that item. They don't think of other players, they don't use common courtesy, or common sense and insist that every single player do everything under the sun to help them be the best. Some players might be mature because maybe they have brothers or sisters like I do that help them to realize these things, which is why a mature Miniclipper is a diamond in the rough, since most of them are spoiled brats that are used to mommy and daddy making everything all better for their precious little darling babies that obviously are so much more talented and promising and most definitley deserve our help. Quiet gregly, I believe that Miniclippers have deserved their reputations and you can tell who they are.

some sidenotes: I never understood why frank was always so serious so I gave him a break and made greg his replacement.

There are mature players that came from Miniclip and those are the people that knew what people thought of them and changed themselves for the better.

This thread is absolutly correct. Highlanders is absoluty correct too. You guys who believe RSC was Heaven ever read the God Letters? They date back to 2002 and in them they say there were annoying players, beggars, and *gasp* noobs!

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

siggy3s.jpg

I absolutely agree with you. =D> :D

I do miss RSC back in the earlier 2000's.

If Jagex would put RSC's source up for sale, I would buy it. I really would.

omfg, i wish jagex still did those. to be honest, in my time of playing, the early days i did no socialize with people that i did not know outside of real life. when i think back, the community was amazing @ draynor willows. just cut logs and do nothing but talk to people who were nice on f2p.

before i start, i have one thing to say: doomsavenger, ur avatar is scary! :anxious:

this is a great read, and i do think that miniclip was slightly obcessive with promoting rs... on every page there was a banner ad..... on the little most popular list, what was in #1? Runescape!!! but i dont think that miniclip is the source of all problems... did miniclip come out with the "No more Pking!" rule?

(p.s.) for all you mean people out there, dora the explora is not a cool nickname! :( )

(p.p.s.) stop asking me were boots is, ur not gonna get an answer!

maybe i need to spend some time making a rant.... lol

Miniclip itself isn't evil; it is simply a portal that twisted creatures known as young children and gold farmers used to gain access to our world. Probably the worst thing that miniclip could be blamed for with any basis in fact would be the influx of goldfarmers; the more people play, the better RS looks to the farmers. The kids mostly seem to hear about RS from their friends, lie their way past the character creation, and go out into the world... Only to find that they don't know how to play, mainly because they are eight.. with the typical attention span of an 8 year old. Miniclip isn't the root of the problem, its a scapegoat.

There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.

I remember RuneScape having scammers, beggars, macroers and annoying people back in 2001. Proportionally less tho, perhaps.

Mechscape World (the original MechScape fansite)

I also discovered runescape because of miniclip, and im not a little spammer.

:-k

With any kind of growth comes people who take advantage of the game. A while back, there weren't many spammers, but niether were there anywhere as many players. As the number of honest players grew, so did the number of dishonest noobs.

Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3

You know what I miss? I miss the days before membership was introduced.

IIRC Miniclip led me to RS and I hope people never think of me as a noob :?.

Heh... speaking of old-time scams... who remembers the red tickets craze? The day or so when everyone took their red tickets from P2P worlds into F2P worlds and sold them for obscene amounts of GP, since the F2Pers didn't know they were both free, and useless.

I don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know what it is like to start the game from scratch these days. I barely remember it when I started anyway, but there were definitely a lot of people scamming/begging etc then. Numerous ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâFree Trimming̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢, ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâFollow for Massive Drop party̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ scams etc. I was helped by generous fellow scapians ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ not through massive transfers of wealth, but rather massive transfers of knowledge. On completion of Knights sword, I was gifted a set of full mith by a smither who proceeded to show me the best places to train, and for a few days he would check up on me asking if I needed any more advice.

I too have done the same thing (not full mith though ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ crappy smithing ftl), but have offered as much advice in game as I can. There are definitely more people playing today than when I started, and it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s nice to know that after Jan, most level 3̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s will in fact be new players rather than experienced players training a pure. More advise to dish out, and the ability to offer a helping hand and make new friends is what RS is all about (isn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ it?), otherwise why are we playing a MMORPG!

8-) Nice read !

Ya miniclip was designed for kids with nothing to do other than waste there lives on arcade games where they don't get anywhere yet still play it everyday and then they saw RuneScape...Ohh hey here's another game I can play... Ohhh whats that cape? I bet I can beg from that guy and he might give me free stuff? lets try it?

hey you with that wierd cape can I have a shot? I swear I'll give it back!

And that's the day noobs came, begged and then scammed as they have nothing else to do, it's just another miniclip game to them :-X

RIP Michaelangelopolous

It was inevitable. Whether RS advertised on Miniclip or not, it was eventually going to happen.

Back when I started, before the time of Miniclip... Yes there were scammers and noobs, but there were a hundred times as many people that were willing to help out people and give them free items to get them started(Without as much begging involved.).

After over a year of playing in this average game with a decent(but not perfect) community something odd happened.. The community turned completly rotten. The ammount of idiots increased incredibly, the majority of players became scammers, suddenly there was need for ingame player moderators!

The once peaceful game with only the odd scammer or rule breaker - that could easily be taken aside by a Jagex Mod(Who just happened to always be nearby) and set on the correct path - was now a zest pool of Miniclip filth.

Not too long after RuneScape became boring for most Miniclippers. It became ranked like #100 game on Miniclip. It's former #1 spot now replaced with Club Penguin. Now that Miniclippers have moved on from RuneScape(only leaving behind a few stragglers) I think RuneScape might finally grow into a slightly better community if only the players would stop skipping English class.

wow i had fun reading it, nicely done

asasasasaslx7.png

Well said,I agree about all this.......All the Noobs in Lumby

is what the Miniclip's for......

And Im so sorry to say that i knew this game via Miniclip.... :-#
