Did bots really help Runescape?

I really don't think they did. They just created a bot-dependent economy, and now that they're gone, item prices are messed up.

If they had never been here, it would have been much better.

if you think 10k 99 cooks is a good thing then yeah bots are awsome

they did their job well

get tons of raw recources in the game and make it waaay too easy to lvl up take the glamor of lvls make money sell account and start over again

i dont think its cool that anyone who wants a heavily botted skill like fishing can get lvl 99 cooking and only spend a few mil

its over 30k now

Well, bots in Runescape are similar that, (bot took the jobs from merchants), and in an awkward and secretive way, they did help keep prices down.

We have something to keep the prices down now. It's called the Grand Exchange. Seriously though, the prices have never been lower... At least the prices of the items I've been buying.

Thats just the nature of the grand exchange.

Using forums/banks and having to hop worlds and move around meant matching up a deal was alot harder and the effort involved in making the deal was much harder.Plus f2p was largely excluded from the market.

With the GE you can just throw up what your buying or selling and it does all the work you meaning it is alot less effort, meaning more people sell, meaning tht prices drop

Yes, this causes the prices to drop further, but it had to start somewhere. The G.E. started off with low(er) prices. The 'less effort'-thing has just made the prices drop further.

What planet are you on?

When GE was released virtually every item value on there was too high compared to street price

Jagex had to fix lots of them.

Bots have helped the economy of raw materials, however they mess up the servers. It's usually bots who have servers full, and their Third party equiptment doesn't really connect with Runescapes main server.

This causes the game to lag. As some of the above posters have said, I do also think that players should work hard for what they get. That's just bypassing those who work 100% more than them.

Actually, bots supplied raw material for the general public who didn't want to pay high prices for some simple items. However, now that they are gone, more f2p players will be coming back in order to help keep the flow of raw materials going. I've already seen an increase in the amount of people at the yews.

As an immigrant, I found it insulting to be compared to bots. Why not compare the gold farms and RWT with the Mob? You know, the ones that raised all kind of hell in ages back, sure, their bootlegging, drug trafficking, and black markets help "produce" some wanted goods, but are they really good for the economy?

All I learned in life, I learned on Tip.it

Really they just made runescape closer to being a 3rd world country. Anyone who produced raw materials (woodcutting, fishing etc) made less money and anyone who further developed those goods profited off the cheap labor.

(Think big companies like nike that have factories in places like indonesia or china in order to maximise profit)

We're having a discussion, not an argument.

I bought 200k steel bars at 620gp each the week before the G.E. was introduced. When it came, I went to check the price of steel bars. They were 570-ish each with 610gp being the highest price possible. Now, they're 534 each, with 570-ish being the top price.

Interesting

Everytime I bought steel bars in past like 2 years I paid about 500 - 550 ea

So basically you overpaidand GE was still high

Let's leave it here, shall we? We agree to disagree. Even though it doesn't matter now, I figured I'd add that I was a steel bar merchant, and that I (easily) sold the steel bars for 650 each on the forums.

I was selling steel bars for over 800 ea the 2 weeks before construction and 1.5k ea the day construction came out, other than that steel bars have been around 600 ea hitting 650 ea in bulk the past couple of months

ive been playing off and on since around 2001, so ive seen good updates and bad. i loved it in rsc when i wuld go to mine iron. and a autoer wuld be there and when u ahve a full inv in rsc raws wuld just fall to the ground. so there was a pool of iron there for the taking, and i wuld always dive in and make a healthy profit. if a bot was outdoing me i wuld just world hop. its simple they helped. i dont think they hurt anyone to badly. i mean runescape has a lot of worlds to go to and plenty of them are bot free in the spot u wanna train.
