Made my own paint program... (BETA RELEASED!!)

Cool, I can imagine it to be quite hard making it OO after you created it.

Yea, the next version will be essentially a rewrite using better practices and more digipaint-friendly features.

Does it enable the "draw straight line when holding shift" thing :P ?

Heh, not yet, I forgot about that. Shift will "constrain proportions" with shapes, though...

Looks nice and simple, plus the example you gave looks really nice.

Do you think it'll be able to download anytime soon?

For those of you who wish to beta test, you can run the Java Web Start here:

http://www.myjavaserver.com/~davedes/painter/Picto.jnlp

Any ideas for a name? I'm planning on making the next release geared purely towards digital painting for beginners.

Just had a little play around, it's quality.

Are you going to include anything around text?

Well done it's very good. =D>

EDIT: One thing I noticed was that when you're on the pencil tool, you have to click and drag before anything appears. Which is annoying when you're trying to draw pixel by pixel.

easy as pie.

good job.

I see it works well with your wacom :P

You realise that this is actually better than MS Paint (in terms of practibility), and it's not even V2 yet.

Possible to have a in-browser one?

I'm still a bit paranoid about downloading stuff that is not in file formats that I know (.rar, .zip, .dmg and all that jazz.) :P

Well I tried it... I liked it too! ::'

It was fun to use, simple, and it didn't even slow up my computer!

There are some things that could be improved though..

A)No copy and paste? :-s

b)No custom colors..

c)The brush is kinda glitchy.. especially at smaller sizes..

d)No text tool

e)No custom canvas sizes

Fix/add all those things and I might just use this more than Paint.net! ::'

I made this lovely strawberry(yes I know, how original  )

Are you running two different versions of the application? Do you have the latest version of Java downloaded?

How would I find that out...

Control+Alt+delete(Assuming you have windows). Processes tab+Sort by username. look for two copies of "Java runtime environment" or something like that. Then, you can simply click on both, "end process", and try running the application again.

~or~(to check Java version)

Open up the Start Menu, click Control Panel(once again, assuming you have windows xp) You might want to sort the programs in alphabetical order(if you haven't already.. I think it's the default). Scroll down to the J's and the Java program will be listed there. If you have less than Version 10 or 11(not sure here, I have 10 I think) your Java program is too old.. You'll have to download the latest version from Java.com.

Rushrock -- JDK 6 is the most recent full release. It's not too old...

Can you give me any details on the problem? It may be a bug.

I'm using the very same version as you, so I don't think it's something to do with the version.

I plan to have an applet version along with my next release, but an applet won't change the security. Java Web Start is equally as secure as a java applet, and they will both give you that "Warning, unsigned certificate" message when you try to run it.

I understand your concern, though. :)

They've already got Graffiti, which trumps my humble Picto in terms of sheer popularity.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. :D

a) What do you mean? Copying images from the net and pasting them in? Or something else?

B) You should be able to double-click any of the colour boxes to use custom colours.

As for the other issues, I'm aware of them and I'll try to sort them out for the next release.

Nice strawberry by the way! :)

Anything else you need to know? Hah, I'm sorry, but I'm really bad at this kind of stuff. And I'm tired. :wall:

Amazing, I really Like this New program, much better than Paint, Hands Down ^^ Only thing I would like to see there is a Zoom In & out Button Like on paint ^^

My Blog :)

Now that I have tested it, I'm even more impressed :)

Possible bugs:

- Brush/pencil opacity: when you type a number, it changes, but you can't put it back to 100 afterwards, it will only go to 99.

- Size: unable to type in a size, while it is possible for opacity.

- Figures: you can only create figures from left to right, and not from right to left.

I love the dashed brush tool :D

- When you use the HSB color selection, you need to scroll along the different colors, but i personally find it annoying that the colors in the left part don't change automatically along the colors on the scroll... (if u don't understand it please say so and i'll try to explain it a bit better.)

- A bucket tool would be handful.

- The possibility to make both the eraser tool and the pencil tool square or round.

- More options for the Dashed Brush tool.

- Make the option for the people that they can resize or enlarge the screen :P (something like the middle button in the right top on webpage browsers (the 1 or 2 windows))

- Make the color frame a bit lower.. it takes a lot of space were you otherwise could draw

well that were a few points i noticed quickly...

Also i wan't to say i love the program and the lay-out and i can't wait for v2 :)

nice its funny

How does 20 minutes turn into 2.5 hours? Was your math perhaps magical math?

Ooh... I love the gradient tool for the rectangle maker!

Are you planning on making it handle screenies? That would be cool. Oh yeah, and transparency. And lines.
