or

Using dragon hide with melle weapon with prayer to melle while he mages u is a good way to beat Giant Scarab (Level 206) with no problem

You might want to put how you get a water tiara and it takes 3 water runes for 1 charge. You can put as many charges as you want on it and when you destroy it you get the remainder for your water runes back.

p.s. I like that you have the items you need from the bank thing it is really helpful

After completing the Scabarite research book by collecting notes, you can collect an additional 10K coin reward from Abigail. You will also retain a copy of the research for your POH bookshelf.

The notes are dropped by a variety of Scabarite denizens, however, two pages are hidden in chests underground that must be looted.

Just thought I'd submit that there is a glitch, where if you use a poisoned weapon against the High Priest boss, when he talks to you again, he will get hit for 1 poison damage and die, leaving bones, and leaving you in an empty room with nothing to do but leave and come back in and try again.

Though somewhat amusing, it means going back out and potentially dying via the mass of mages/rangers just outside the door.

Perhaps add a warning in the guide saying not to use poison weapons?

[*:o35yh544]The required level to burn logs in the furnace is 20 levels above normal - Yew logs require 80, maples require 65, and so on.

[*:o35yh544]Allotting highest power to the scarab room hits 105 damage, second highest 70 damage. I'm unsure of either of the other power levels. However, the more power you allot it, the weaker it becomes and the less it hits.

For the puzzle, thieving level along with power affects how many tries you get. With my thieving level of 70, the puzzle was unsolvable on the lower power levels, while friends with higher thieving did fine with it on the lower levels.

This section is from tips, tricks, and notes:

While on the plateau with Abigail, you can head west, over a low wall, and attach a rope to the rock. This allows you to use that as a shortcut to and from the plateau at any point later, but remember that you're going to have to walk through a crowd of Mummies (Level 125) known to hit up to 23 damage.

To clarify:

  •
[*:o35yh544]This doesn't mention the other side of the shortcut. Its east of Simon Templeton, on the same level as the agility pyramid. Continue east along the south side until you get to the overhanging rocks.

[*:o35yh544]You must place the rope from the top point first, after that you can go up or down as you wish.

[*:o35yh544]I killed a few mummies after the quest and was hit a 24 by one. The max might be slightly higher but I can confirm 24.

The rope shortcut requires level 40 agility (Disease got me down to 38 and I couldn't use it till I recovered.) Sanfrew serum works better than Relicym's because its easy to get poisoned as well as diseased down there. I had the same problem with the High Priest - don't use a poisoned weapon.

Someone in Blogscape reported that Keris also works on the Scarab, and seems to be extremely vulnerable to stab type attacks.

Besides Relicym's balm you also need antipoisons here (or only Sanfrew's, that cures both disease and poison).

You can only get diseased if you walk through a trap (or fail to disarm it), or if you get attacked by the scarabite mages. Would be nice if the guide has a map with the path you should take to avoid most of the traps and mages.

I've made a very crude map, that also shows the location of the 2 chest with notes in it. It's easiest just to put run on (pray and eat along the way), go to both chests first and then go to the high priest. There you can drink all pots needed and eat before talking.

scarabmapsq2.png

For the other notes you only need to kill the scarab rangers and lancers (no need to kill the mages). It took me hours to get the last notes. The reward of 10k gp isn't worth that trouble, but I have a feeling the collection of notes might be important for a followup quest (that uses the strange doors upstairs).

Some other tips:

- There is a spring next to the archeologists. You can fill your waterskins there.

- Nathila's Bake stall (east part of town) sells filled waterskins.

- The embalmer (soutwest corner of town) sells antipoison.

- Next to the embalmer is a camel, who you can ask for camel dung (talk to her from south side of fence). I couldn't reach the dung inside the fence, but maybe you can get it with telegrab (I didn't try that, cause I found this camel after quest).

- The fastest way to Simon and the rope shortcut: climb through the hole east of the bank building. That takes you to a rock northwest of Simon. You can use the rock to get back too (and also save yourself the irritating talk to the guard at the gate).

one tips and trick:

use water runes on a water tiara to make an enchanted tiara, 3 water runes means the same as a water skin (1) (and it says 1 charge then) but lookout while using the water runes on your tiara it will take all your water runes in your invetory

to the north of the swamp there are 5-6 scarab creatures, you can kill these also for the remaining pages, instead of the one in the dangerous dugeon, i don't think there were mages there but i can't remember that well

I got 4 from killing skeletons while doing the quest and got 2 form the chests.

Does this 6 make them all?

I woundering coz i already had money on my inventory when I talked to Abigail.

It takes 33 pages if you count them when you open the "my notes" to receive the 10k reward from archeologist woman by the spring. I received most of mine from the creatures in the swamps, but also received two notes from mummies, one from lancer where the priest is and 4 from the zombies. I think which creature you receive the notes from is random. You do need the notes from the two chests in the area where the high priest is and you need to make sure he gives you his notes which are added to the book when you speak to him. I got 32 pages and then nothing would drop them so I went down and killed about 4 lancers where the high priest is and got the final one so don't give up! The reward isn't much, but you get a copy of the notes so it is possible those will be needed later on. Happy Questing, Bud

It would be helpful to add that when talking to the High Priest click "Conversion, Eh?" and then "I will submit to your authority." over and over until he finally gives in. Note that second line isn't exactly correct.

Just a pointer for the note collecting:

There are 24 notes in TOTAL:

- 4 from the quest.

- 17 from drops. (Kill the Scabarites in their lair, just inside the entrance. Go after the Rangers and Lancers.)

- 2 from the chests.

- 1 from the High Priest of Scabaras. (Run into his room, close the door and kill off any Scabarites that are in the room, then talk to the Priest.)

You CAN get the same note more than once if you haven't added it to your book. Once you add a note to your book, you can't get that note again.

Below is the text from the completed book, word for word. A new double-page is denoted by //, a separation between those pages is denoted by /. This is to make it easier to check your pages.

[hide=Complete Book]/Notes donated by the

archaeologists:

's notes: The

archaeologists theorise that

Sophanem was built by

the refugees fleeing Ullek.

The disaster that befell

Ullek left in its wake a

large number of undead

creatures in the area.

//There is some debate

between the two

archaeologists as to

whether these undead are

the result of vile sorcery

or simply the results of

the use of this area as a

graveyard. Initial findings

seem to suggest that the

area was once heavily

forested, in stark contrast

/to its current desert

state. Abigail seems

convinced this is due to

humans chopping down all

the trees, but Kerner is

of the opinion that trees

regrow so quickly as to

make such deforestation

impossible.

//Notes found in the

depths:

The foresters are most

incompetent of late. Their

claims that sources of

wood are becoming scarce

smacks of laziness. I shall

have them flogged if

quotas are not fulfilled.

The furnaces must

/remain lit.

Another setback. The

deliveries of timber we

were expecting have

arrived, but are in the

form of bank certificates.

While we could burn

them, I fear it wil not be

much use. For now, I

have had them stored with

//the other certificates.

It appears as if Elidinis

has forsaken us. Armies,

led by vile misbelievers,

are smiting the northern

settlements, Uzer is

under siege and it cannot

be long before we are

also under assault. The

outside areas may fall,

/but we should be secure

in the tunnels beneath

Ullek.

It has come to retreat. I

can only blame myself

for the next revelation I

must make to the

survivors. We are low on

timber and the ventilation

will ultimately fail as a

//result. The vast stocks of

dried dung, in which I

had placed faith for fuel

in such an emergency,

are soaking wet...

...and infested with some

sort of giant maggot.

That's bad for both

morale and health. I fear

this is simply a reflection

/of our current dire

situation. I only pray we

are not forced to

starvation and the dire

choices that would entail.

Icthlarin has not taken

us, after all. Though

many died in these

stinking warrens, we few

have survived. We will

//now travel to the village

of Sophanem and hope

there are other survivors

there. I have vowed to

pay for a temple to be

built there, in honour of

the deities who saved

us...that is, if our

currency is of any value

in this new world order.

/As Scabarite custom

dictates, the outer

gateways have been

sealed. No disturbances

will now occur and we

may worship in peace.

The fortuitous discovery

of a large stock of ordure

may even allow some of

the less pious worshippers

to breed.

//

The relaxation of

breeding rules may have

been something of a

mistake. More of the

young seem to believe

that we should leave the

darkness and seek to

explore the outer areas,

where odd noises have

been heard. I shall pray

/for guidance, even though

answers from Scabaras

are clearly unlikely.

Although he did not reply

directly, I have been

seized by visions of some

sort. A female with a red-

sheened carapace and

antennae spoke to me,

sending disquiet through

//my soul. Could it really

be that only the

destruction of all other

life will allow us the

isolation we crave?

I am convinced. We will

break through to the

surface and ensure these

noises are quieted. Silence

shall be ours! Both the

/chasm and the outer

areas are currently

under investigation, by

those dedicated enough to

accept pollution of their

souls for the greater

good.

The chasm has proven to

be a dead end to us, for

the moment. The external

//trek has been useful,

though. We discovered

some large creatures, not

wholly unlike us, with the

capacity to leap great

distances. Some have

been captured for

research. There were

other creatures, too -

dead but moving. Could

this kind of existence

/provide the ultimate in

solitude?

A breakthrough, of sorts!

The leaping creatures

have enabled us to send

warriors up through the

chasm to explore. They

report a large area of

tunnels which they are

now securing with traps.

//Traps that should be

effective against the soft-

skinned humans we can

even now smell.

Contact! We have slain

several human warriors,

after emerging into the

outer areas of a surface

settlement. I am, hoever,

worried that this contact

/might be sullying the

forces. I have instructed

that more traps be used

so that pollution does not

occur.

The red-tinged female

reappeared and urged for

a more active destruction

of the surface-dwellers.

The dreams come

//evermore and my mind is

torn. She speaks for

Scabaras and I shall

follow, but I have not had

such communication in

years and the toll upon

me is telling. Everything

is blurring.

Now, I realise, there are

two minds within me...and

/neither is strong enough.

To be cursed so, with no

chance to be alone, even

within myself. I must

control my thoughts...or

should that be 'we'?

Paralysed by indecision

or firm in the face of

adversity; aloof or

apathetic; violent or

//strong; merciful or weak?

There is no difference

within me. What will be

the ultimate fate?

The High Priest seems to

be wandering in his mind,

so we follow his last

instructions as Scabaras

would wish us to. The

outsiders will be

/destroyed. We slew one

in the upper chambers

and set our largest

guardian to guard the

area where he was found

- all too close to the

chasm.

A setback. The scarab

guardian we left by the

chasm was slain! Although

//no penetration has been

made into the nest via

this route, we have

increased the number of

perimeter traps and are

considering a full assault

upon the settlement

known as Sophanem.

We have had reports of

an intruder in the vaults

/before the doors - an

area not yet fully set

with traps! I have had

visions of Scabaras in the

guise of a female with red

chitin. Now, I know what

we must do: destroy

everyone, for ultimate

peace and solitude.

//Notes made when talking

to the High Priest of

Scabaras:

's notes: The High Priest

of Scabaras has a view of

the genesis of Scabaras

that differs from my own.

In his opinion, the three

dreams giving rise to the

other minor deities were

/ultimately unsatisfactory

to Tumeken. Thus, on

the fourth night of

dreaming, Scabaras was

brought into being, the

most perfect of the deities

and the most pleasing to

Tumeken. The most

important part of the cult

precepts seems to be that

solitude is the ideal

//circumstance for self-

improvement and an

untroubled existence.

's notes: Most orthodox

teachings of Scabaras rely

on the worshipper

meditating in silence, with

interaction frowned upon

due to being likely to

pollute the mind. The

/recent events have

reinforced this view as far

as the High Priest is

concerned.The pollution

of the Devourer's words

led to the recent

depredations of the

Scabaras cult. Obviously,

the Devourer was able to

convince the High Priest

that solitude could only

//be guaranteed by killing

non-Scabarites. After

turning away from the

influence of the

Devourer, it is, perhaps,

quite flattering that he

should choose to talk to

me at all.

's notes: Although this

pollution is now driven

/from the mind of the

High Priest, the

perversion of Scabaras's

teachings has driven

many of the Scabarites

permanently insane.

Slaying them is thus an

act of mercy in the

opinion of the High

Priest. In any case, these

deranged beings will not

//be a threat to any but

those who approach them.

Sophanem is safe.

's notes: When I

questioned the High

Priest of Scabaras as to

the origins of the

Scabarites, I gained few

useful facts. Apparently,

their physical form is a

/blessing for generations

of loyal service to

Scabaras. Many of them

live in the dark places

beneath the soil, though

gatherings such as I have

seen are very rare

indeed.[/hide]

Good luck!

When attempting the agility room's pipe, it may be helpful to drop all your heavy items (armour, even food, etc.) while you cross and pick them up on your way back out. You don't need to fear losing them, as a fall probably won't kill you (minimal damage if any, I can't remember).

Take a strength pot dose before attempting the lever in that room.

I suggest closing the door once you're inside to talk with the Scarabas High Priest. There was a ranging unit outside trying to take me down.
