Is Jagex Spin Doctoring?

:? These last few updates seem to be nothing more than Jagex's attempts to mitigate the negative response players have been giving their less popular updates. :| I mean wildy capes and staking for f2p after both these concepts had been officially neutered? Am I the only one who sees what they're doing?

As for summoning, I don't see it meeting a lot of the expectations players had for it. I mean is it supposed to fill the void Jagex created by effectively removing pking, staking and merchanting from the game? :|

What happens when the summoning update is as boring as farming? Several of my friends and even people on these forums have stated that they would quit if that was the case. :| Opinions?

A REPLACEMENT?

Ok picture this, they replace your yew and magic trees with a tree that if you attempt to cut it alone your axe breaks, if you cut it with a group as soon as you get a log you get a skull on your head, all the other woodcutters attack you and you cant log out for 3 minutes.

Bounty hunter and tournaments were not a replacement, they are garbage.

I love how people are looking at summoning, with how great Jagex is making it out to be, and automatically assuming it's all a big conspiracy and the skill is going to be boring to train like farming.

Until farming becomes a combat skill, you really need to work on your skills of speculation.

What I'm saying is with all the hype and speculation flying around people are going to have high expectations for summoning, especially after the last batch of updates. Can you honestly say that the duel tournament met people's expectations, or jagex's solution to rwt. Its a matter of bad track record and high player expectations. To be honest I can only see the following people continuing to play the game:

Young children who don't know any better

and

Old people who really should

Believe what you want but Runescape is becoming more of a single player "Skillscape" as we speak. We've lost the ability to cook while pking, to merchant, even to give each other gifts. How many freedoms can this game stands to lose before players go out and find another free game to play?

Can I ask you a question? What will YOU do if summoning doesn't meet your expectations?

Most Runescape Members didn't pk/duel, and it doesn't really hurt anyone if non-membs quit.

:-s Part of the reason I say these things is jagex is so out of touch with their players they have no idea what they want.

Well "non-membs" are potential members....you just have to look at it that way. If they decide the game is worthless in the f2p stage will they ever play members? The answer is no. At least I don't think so. In addition to that jagex would lose advertisement money if masses of f2p player quit for a better game.

You're missing the big difference between the two updates you're comparing. The duel tournament, Jagex knew beforehand that it would piss of customers and that they would lose members, and they acknowledged that.

If you can find me a post where a Jmod said that Summoning will piss people off and be the reason a bunch quit, then I'll consider your comparison valid.

To cook while pking? I still have no problem selling my sharks at market price, cooked or raw. I also have no problem merchanting, in fact I made a few million off of it this week. And I also had no problem giving gifts to a few of my f2p friends.

And it's not just young children who don't know any better who will continue to play this game. Personally, I'm 18, and 90% of the people on my friends list are between the ages of 20 and 55 (Yes, the 55 is referring to a real person on my list) and none of them have quit.

The only people on my friends list who have quit or are threatening to quit are usually whiny, even before these updates.

The last time jagex cared about non members was the Halloween event and that turned into a total catastrophe.

So you're telling me you became a member before you even saw what the game was like? Don't be so naive...

Well all I know is that Jagex still is making more moneys than are using, so they cant' have taken such a big hit as some people are wanting to tell.

But Summoning...If its coming in "two waves" then it MIGHT meet expectations of players. Im a skiller and wont' train it but... it still looks fun. :)

I cant' see why Jagex would want to put a spin on their updates. They knew what they were getting into and face it:

If people are really so incredibly upset about a couple aspects of the game being removed, I think those people should realize that Runescape and pking pretty much owned their lives, and they were not getting all they could out of the game.

As to the 'young kids' thing, ha! some of my best friends are 13-15 and they feel the same way as i do; I think Jagex is try now to weed out the players they dont' like (players that fit the 'complaining' category I guess) :o

I hope that made sense, I jumped around a bit :?

The whole problem about past updates is that everyone is focused on OLD ways of doing things rather than getting on with it and adapting, do you think I care one bit that there is a 3k trade limit now?

Not a chance, I am too busy making many many millions using my intelligence to make money rather than having a hissy fit every time something doesnt quite go my way.

Sure, I have lost out on the whole range potion prices having had 2500 in my inventory, but I have managed to bounce back in spectacular fashion and plan on getting my first party hat on the 20th after coming from 29m to 125m currently in 3 weeks.

Pking is not dead either, it is just in hiatus while the developers are working flat out on new ways to do it.

Ofcause summoning wont meet everyones expectations you can never meet everyones expectations. I think it will be a pretty decent update though.

Farming isnt boring its a very intelligent and thought out skill. This is spoken by someone who doesnt like farming while I can still appreciate it isnt a 'boring' skill. Everyone just has different tastes.. While hunter is complete rubbish and pointless as it doesnt relate to any of the other skills. Anyone who says otherwise should be shot. The only use found for it was when some dude discovered how effective red chimps could be and I still think hunter is limiting when it comes to uses with the other skills. Farming on the other hand is very usefull and fills a skill void that was needed. Although I admit hunter also voids a different void.. its more a.. well I dont want to hurt anyones feelings describing thoughts on this. ..Maybe hunter will have more uses with summoning possibly..

Summoning isnt trying to fill the, "void Jagex created by effectively removing pking, staking and merchanting from the game" They tried to keep pking into the game by creating that minigame, which is hated by most pkers. Merchanting is still possible and I personally dont give a [cabbage]e about merchanters so whatever. Staking has been hit the hardest but it needed to be hit the hardest to stop rwt and gambling addictions. The removal of staking has hit me the hardest when it comes to my gameplay 'fun' and I didnt even stake. It hit me nondirectly unfortunatly. =/ I lost about 10-20m the day of its release and my most enjoyable gameplay became non existant without warning. =/

Opinion is they are dragging this out as long as they can to keep people hooked. As any business would do once they decide to take such a massive hit to the wallet to save their game.

..As for F2p. Meh.. They can have the duel arena its broke anyway. Capes? So what.. lol? *Chucks F2p a penny* *All f2p dash to grab the penny and a huge dust cloud fills the sky, with the cries of NOOB and blood filling vorrock streets* Jagex are 'spin doctoring' alot of things but when it comes to this I honestly dont care. Part of the reason for giving f2p the duel arena was because of the removal of the wild. It was needed for 1v1 pking.

These updates did hurt me alot btw and im not happy but your saying summoning is 'expected' to fix all these things when jagex havnt stated this anywhere.. Your setting up a firing line with them as the targets which is kinda unfare.. although I will admit it does sound more fun than the game they have created.

Btw I came a member within about 1 month of being f2p. I barely had any stats and about 100k gp probably. Didnt wanna be a freeloader tbh.

A lot of Business is put into it. They knew that the updates would be a big blow to there members/income, but they know if they made a update (Summoning) that has been a huge exspectation to many members they would still be keeping giving the money as they believe that Jagex is making something massive that will give new life to the game for the people who lost fun in the game. And the whole leeking out giving so much info on it has just made more people want and paying more for Jagex.

And I can see Summoning being a let down to many, but well people do overreact to many things and set their hopes to high.

The only thing I'm looking forward to involving the release of summoning, is the simple fact people wont be at the black dragons in Zanaris...assuming summoning has nothing to do with them, or im screwed with a capital S
