Changes in the Past Year or So?

Recommended Posts

I just returned to Runescape, after about a year and half absence.. Ive noticed a few changes, but I was informed of some others. Changes to the wilderness and the way pk is done. New Armors, new skills even trade limits. Im posting this hoping that I will get some feedback on other changes in the past while. Please post anything that is vital, that I should know. Thanks guys!

Have you looked though the news archive on the official Runescape site? You might be better off starting there and then asking specific questions after.

There's also this new skill called Summoning... it's kind of a big deal

Other highlights:

G.E. near Varrock/ Edgeville made trading easier

merchanting died and many items are frozen in prices - introduction of junk trading

Wilderness is now generally PvM instead of the old PvP

PvP is only possibly through various minigames - Bounty Hunter, Clan Wars, Fist of Guthix, etc.

new Duel Tournament system, along with the death of staking

lots of new quests with awesome rewards, most recent of which include blacklisting slayer tasks, a new slayer mask, and pirate implings - arr matey!

talk to the guy north of the slayer master in Burthrope for a free 20k exp in any skill (presuming you already had a law talisman)

bunch of other stuff I'm too lazy to think of

I cant believe that they really removed PvP from the wilderness! Pking was my whole life in RSC. What would make them want to make such a durastic change I wonder...

It was being used as a method to transer gold that had been collected by accounts using stolen credit cards...... it was at a stage where if drastic methods where not brought in to remove the point of autoing the game would be shut down..... Even Jagex had fingers crossed when they did it, but had no choice.

No, that's conjecture, there were other options, such as prevent people from paying with credit cards.

So wait, whats the deal then. If someone dies anywhere, will they still leave a death pile? And whats to stop someone from dropping items on the ground? Cant they transfer like that?

There's also a new system called gravestones. Basically, when you die, a gravestone appears for a set length of time at that spot, the default setting is 2 minutes. You will lose the items in the gravestone if you don't make it back in time. You can go back from your respawn and get your items back from your own gravestone, the idea is that it replaces grabbing your own deathpile. However, there's various methods that you can do to increase this time.

1. You can buy more elaborate (and expensive) gravestones which increase the time it lasts from 2 minutes (free) to 5 minutes (500K).

2. A passing player with at least 2 prayer points can repair your gravestone for up to 5 minutes longer, allowing you more time to return.

3. A passing player with over level 70 prayer can bless your gravestone where it will last for an hour.

2 and 3 replace the concept of another player holding your items and giving them back to you.

RWTers can't use it because it's impossible for another player to take the items and run off with them. Only thing is, it makes the game easier because nobody can steal your deathpile any more.

Yes, but attacking RWTing like this was the only serious option that would damage the game the least.

Maybe, maybe not. That's not what I'm here to discuss. The game would have not "shut down" if the RWT updates hadn't happened, and I'm sick of reading that erroneous argument being thrown around all over the forum.

I've just come back after a few months, and I'm really suprised about how much stuff has changed. Dunno whether its for better or for worse yet, I'm still adjusting. One thing I don't like though is the price caps on the GE :|

If you ever want to go in bounty hunter, I suggest you read the rules about the pickup penalties and stuff... Made me lose a rune scimmy (I know not much) but if it happens to you with a whip that's going to be 1.6M through the drain. Also they've released something named godwars, it seems like some people can make a nice amount of money here, although I don't know exactly how it works. The rest is already listed by the others...
