[TF2] It's MANN Vs. Machine!

Do people still play this on Xbox? Just got live and was thinking of all of the multiplayer games I have, and remembered I was planning on getting this game for PC when I get the chance. But since I can't get it on PC yet, yea.

 

If you find a match it'd probably just be like 2fort or something.

 

Stop hating on 2fort, there's nothing wrong with it. (I honestly haven't seen an engi cluster on that map since the scout update)

 

But yeah, nobody plays on Xbox, lag is insanse, limited selection of maps, and no updates or patches, which means no new weapons, and no fixed glitches or stats.

 

Did you ever think that maybe 2fort is generally hated for a reason?

 

No reason that I can see, other than the engi clusters. But like I said, those disappeared around the time of the scout update for some reason. Now people actually play.

 

It's especially fun when two teams of pretty much equal skill fight it out on that map.

me and jj made a list of things wrong with it :D enjoy

a. you have to go past spawn to get to intel and back

b. it's a stalemate engies or not

c. usually only two paths, most of which can easily be guarded from one spot

d. it's extremely biased towards heavy classes

e. sniper fights

f. usually 32 man instant spawn spamfest

g.instaspawn makes it incredibly hard to cap

h.scout and spy become almost useless on it, sniper too unless you count sniper fights

i. one or more engies on both teams ends any chance of victory

j. entire map is just chokepoint after chokepoint

k. theres only like...3 health packs on either end, encouraging you to stick around spawn and just spam at enemy

l.after you kill their team and get to intel, you're trapped in their base with only two exits that go right in front of their spawn, which has infinite health and ammo inside

Sounds like a normal list.

 

The only reason I ever played it in TFC was to snipe, period. Of course even in TFC there were much better maps out there to play (like well).

 

 

So a mix of knex's list and having played that stupid map for a long [wagon] time is why I stay away from it.

The only thing that's actually a problem is the fact that you need to go through spawn to cap intel. Everything else is easily broken through with a team effort, and as for F, the only 2fort servers I play on have a 20 player cap to avoid exactly what you mentioned.

[bonk Atomic Punch is usually a remedy for this, but as before, if you have an attack group destroy sentries as you enter, and have a scout rush to intel, you can score a cap most time if you come up spiral and exit through grate.]

[sure is, which ensures fun no matter what you do. If you play a heavy class, you can watch all the pretty little giblets, and if you play a lighter class, you can have fun dominating the heavy classes when they just can't catch you.]

[Problem because? Just makes them bait for spies.]

[Again, this is a complaint about servers that run it, not the map itself. Play on a server without instaspawn.]

[scout - This is not the map to try and score a cap by yourself, at least not against a good team. The scout needs to have an attack force attack the base to eliminate sentry guns and distract the enemy when the scout goes for intel. Spy - Nowhere near useless. It's so easy to camp battlements, water under bridge, and behind the bridge on the enemies side so that you can take out an attack party for an easy multi-backstab. Sniper - Useful for protecting battlements, bridge, and engi setups in enemy sewers.]

[Not true. A spy, 2 heavy classes, and a medic are all it takes to wipe out 2 sentries. More than that is rare ( though it used to be pretty common for an entire team to go engi and dig in at intel). Otherwise, I believe there are some servers that limit the number of engies.]

[Just like any payload map. It just makes it more satisfying when you break through and grab their intel.]

[it's not a big map. If you're not in your own base, you're in the middle. That would pretty much ruin the map if there were health packs there. (There are servers that put health packs and ammo on bridge. Those games are annoying as hell.)]

[You're just rephrasing C, but I guess I'll answer this one too. Bonk atomic punch can get you down grate and out of the base in some cases, but it seems like you're making this list under the assumption that you're going in as a lone scout. If you have a support group to keep the enemy busy, they can almost NEVER stop you.]

 

All in all, I can kind of see your reasoning. Having to go through spawn IS a major flaw. I also know that you're into competitive play, and this really isn't a competitive map.

I think you're seriously overestimating the level of teamwork most pubbies have. Half of them don't own mics, which makes coordinated pushes extremely difficult. You also seem to forget that if both teams are working together, it's still a stalemate. If the defensive team counters you're heavy class/medic uber push with their own ubers, backed up by sentries, the team pushing will lose every time because they need to spend half of their uber destroying the 2+ sentries the other team has set up, and then move on to killing the other team, which will at that point have 50% more uber time than you will. Even if you somehow manage to get into the intel room, where they will likely have another sentry set up, you're trapped inside their base with two easily guarded exits that are the width of a heavy and a half.

 

When people put class limits on, it's normally 3 or 4. Not 1 or 2.

 

Also explain this to me: a map with a ton of easy chokepoints which you've agreed makes it biased towards heavy classes if somehow great for lighter classes? You can run away from the enemy all you want, you're just doing their job for them.

I think you're underestimating pubbies :wink: 5 people with mics = win.

 

As for lighter classes, don't use them for a frontal assualt. Rather, protect slightly less uses entrances like the sewers. I honestly never encounter the majority of the problems you listed.

 

They won't have another sentry up by the time you get out because you have your force distract them, or possibly camp spawn until you can come up spiral and escape through grate. This is crucial to capping the intel against a decent team.

 

Other than that, I believe people have made variants that add a few more entrances and exits, which are pretty fun to play.

You can't play regular Demoman worth crap because of the Targe's and your already Sword bait because you have no close range worth using.

2. I'm not saying they're amazing, I'm saying they're not all cattle like you seem to think.

 

P.S. I think someone at Valve is screwing with me lol. Ever since the 2fort argument started, the only servers I can find are playing 2for XS

I mean, 2fort is fun for screwing around with soldier and stuff, but personally I really like Steel and Goldrush.

Hrmm, I should start idling again. Do you use the program or just go in a server?

 

The guy who made the idler program (and tf2items.com) shut down the servers for the program after valve made it against the rules, so you have to use a server. I think you can just create your own server, go in spec, and leave it on all night and get drops. But i'd only do that if you can't find a server to go in. Also be sure to idle in spec so you don't mess up your class times, but if you stay in spec you have to go into another server and play for a bit before the drops hit.

I tried this earlier, I was out for about 5 hours. It didn't have any messages saying that I found anything, but I haven't played any other servers yet so I don't know for certain.

 

And I would totally pay to watch dizzle vs jj. We need to set this up. Now.
