They are obsolete but I don't think that Jagex ever said that they were going to go. I was mining, "found a sapphire". 30 seconds later, Cap'n Hand gives me a sapphire. No sooner after I finished talking with him, I dig up another one mining. Oddly enough though, in a day of total nolife rcing I'll only get 3-5 :| Hours and hours in between them.
